Chapter ten: Open your eyes
Mina
I hated him. How could he do that? Who did he think he was? I was only showing him that I was thankful for whatever he had done that Jin told me to do. It's not like I'd thank him if he didn't tell me so. How else would I know? If he wanted to be mad at someone it should be Jin. Why was he mad anyways? He seriously didn't make any sense. He just did whatever he felt like without considering other's feelings. How heartless could a human being get? He was like a robot without feelings instead of hatred. I couldn't believe I was starting to think he was okay and possibly a human, but he proved me wrong. Again.
"Mina, it's been two days. Are you still thinking about V?" Shin asked as we met along the way to the school.
I shook my head, trying to focus on other things, but I always ended up thinking about V again. "Sorry. He just pisses me off," I murmured and Shin giggled. I glanced curiously at him. "What's so funny?"
"How sensitive you easily get," he said, and I rolled my eyes. How could I not get mad? I just couldn't exactly show them how much it pissed me off, except from Shin of course.
Jin
It all made sense now. V had explained everything to me. Yesterday, I couldn't ignore my best friend that looked like he had lost his soul. I invited him to my house without the others, and surprisingly he agreed, and we talked. We didn't do anything in particular except from talking. I asked him what bothered him and that he could tell me anything, and I'd support him no matter what. He told me not to tell anyone else, not even the other members. I knew it was something he definitely wanted to keep as a secret and agreed to his condition.
He talked. He told me everything. I knew he was telling me the truth. He was even close to crying and he was showing a lot of emotions that day. I had never seen him like that before. I felt sorry for him, but also happy.
"Mina, I need to talk to you," I said as soon as I reached her after the first class was over. She stared at me emotionless and I knew she was mad too. No wonder, I thought, he did yell at her without a particular reason.
"About what?" Shin suddenly came up and glared at me. I glared back, but tried to ignore him and looked back at Mina.
"Come with me," I said as I grabbed her arm, but she quickly took it back.
"No, I want to know the reason before I should come with you," she protested and I sighed, eying Shin.
"It's about V," I muttered and she snorted.
"Then I don't need to hear it," she said stubbornly and turned her back against me. I felt myself becoming irritated, but I took a quick deep breath before losing my temper. I was not used to this and I needed some time to not let it get to me.
"I really need to talk," I said again and she glanced at me.
"Why? Isn't it something he can't say himself?" sshe asked and I flinched. "Is he sorry?" I didn't answer. That wasn't the main reason that I wanted to talk to her but I needed to get us alone so we could talk in private. Especially without Shin. He's just an annoyance. I didn't get why she even was friends with that guy.
"Can't you just come with me?" I asked, feeling myself getting more irritated by her stubbornness.
"It's not that important. She says no", Shin said and I turned towards him.
"It's none of your business, so back off", I murmured whilst straighten my back, as I usually did when I wanted to threat someone. He whimpered like a scared puppy that was about to shit itself and Mina stared at me. "Come." I grabbed her hand again and dragged her with me, and was successful this time.
"What is it? I don't feel scared of you guys anymore and I won't apologise for something I didn't do," she said with a calm and low voice. It kind of surprised me, but I didn't flinch.
"I'm not going to make you apologise, and I know you did nothing wrong. It was V." I began and her eyes widen in response, "he's too cowardly to apologise to you himself but he is sorry for suddenly yelling at you. Right after he snapped, he felt regret and wished he hadn't done it. He knew what he made you feel and he wished that he could take that back". Her eyes widen more for each sentence I spoke.
"So...why did he yell at me?"
Mina
"I promised him not to tell anyone, so I can't. But that doesn't mean that you can't figure it out yourself," Jin said and I looked at him confused. How was I supposed figure out something when I didn't even know where to start? "It's right in front of you Mina. Don't ignore the small feelings, and try to think. Open your eyes." When he was done, he gave me a soft smile and placed his hand on the top of my head. "You're an alright girl kiddo. Just follow your heart." I couldn't help but to just stare at him amazed and confused. I was surprised that he wasn't angry with me or hated me anymore, and I was confused over what he had just told me. Don't ignore the small feelings? Think? Open my eyes? Follow my heart? Was this supposed to be hints? "You'll figure it out, but don't take too long. He's a human too, you know. Don't make him suffer. Not alone."
With that, he smiled a bit more and walked away. The lesson was about to start and I hurried back to our classroom. Shin was waiting, curious over why Jin wanted to talk to me, but waited patiently for me to sit down next to him.
"What was it about?" he asked right away after I sat down beside him. I didn't really want to tell him all this and just came up with something simple and logical.
"He just said that V felt sorry, but didn't have the guts to tell it face to face himself. Humph, what a coward," I muttered, trying to still sound pissed at him. I had to say that I wasn't angry with him anymore, but I still felt irritated. He still was at fault and he didn't even apologise directly himself. Plus that Jin gave me a freaking task to solve what's inside of V's mind. How the hell was I supposed to do that?
"Mina, honey, could you drive to the store and buy these for me? I forgot, and I have to begin on the dinner already," my mom asked when she entered my room as I was in deep thoughts. All day I had been thinking about what Jin had told me. I was literally driving myself insane. I was trying to solve something, and I didn't even know where to start. Was it coming naturally, or did I have to do some research or something? "Honey, you all right? You look kind of...mad." She was obviously joking, but I couldn't help but to feel like she was right. I might drive myself mad if I didn't stop thinking so much.
"I'm fine. Where's the keys?" I asked and she threw me them. Sometimes I could borrow her car if it's for a good reason. Like driving to the store that was ten minutes away and buy stuff for her. That's literally the only reason she'd give me her car keys.
I also received her shopping list, and I got to the car and drove off. I was still distracted by my thoughts, plus it was late and dark outside, making it hard to concentrate. I was about to slow down and make a turn when I suddenly saw someone right in front of the car.
I panicked and my reflex was to step on the breaks immediately. When the car stopped I got out of the car right away and glanced around.
"Hello?" I yelled in panic, hearing nothing but my loud heartbeat that was soon going to explode, as I was afraid I had hurt someone.
I heard someone grumble behind and I quickly turned around. I ran behind the car and saw someone lying not too far away. I ran up to the person and bent down to see who was laying on the road in the dark. My heart dropped as I realised whom the familiar face was that grumbled in pain.
My hands were shaking and my head was a mess. I didn't know what do to. My first instinct was to call an ambulance. I tried to get my phone out of my pocket, but my hands were shaking too much and made it harder for me. I had to bit my own lip to keep my tears in to not get in a panic mode and just try to help. I took a deep breath to get myself together and calmly dragged out my phone out of my pocket and called the ambulance.
"HELLO?! I NEED HELP!" I screamed out. I didn't know my voice would be that shaky and I sounded like I was having a heart attack.
"Calm down Miss. Would you calmly tell us what happened and your location?" a calm lady asked me and I tried to calm myself down before speaking again.
"I-I accidentally hit someone with my car. H-He's unconscious, but he's head is bleeding," I whimpered and waited for some respond before doing anything that might harm him.
"Calm down Miss. I need you to tell me your location." I had to look around before answering. I was too much in panic to even remember where I was or what I was doing before I ended up in this situation. I managed to remember where I was and I told her my location. "Thank you Miss. An ambulance car are on their way, but please stay on the line with me," the lady continued and I sniffed whilst nodding, even though she couldn't see it. "I need you to check the injured person's pulse. You have to check if the person is alive". I sniffed again and accidentally let a tear drop on his cheek. The more I stared at him, the more I felt worse.
I shakily reached my hand under his chin by his throat and held it there to see if I felt anything that signaled he was still alive. I dropped the phone and panicked even more and felt with both of my hands on his pulse. It took a while to feel it, but it was there. His heart was still beating. He was still alive. I could hear the loud voice of the lady on the phone, trying to contact me. "Miss? Are you still there Miss? What happened?"
"I-I'm sorry. I'm still here, and he's alive," I answered and dried my tears. I could hear a weak ambulance sound from the ambulance car, meaning it was not too far away.
"That's good. Now, can you see any blood or open wounds that could endanger his life?" I searched his body and noticed his head was bleeding pretty badly and he could've possibly broken one rib.
"His head is bleeding pretty badly and I think his ribs are broken," I said, still shakily. The lady kept on talking, but I could barely hear it over my loud beating heart. My head was a mess, but I could barely could concentrate because of the rough rapidly noise from my pulse and heartbeat.
"Can you tell me what happened?" an ambulance worker man asked me to keep my distracted when they ran to his side.
"I-I was driving to the store instead of my mom because she was making dinner, but needed some stuff and gave me a shopping list. I was about to make this turn and suddenly he was just right in front of my car. I t-tried to stop the car, but it was too late and I called as soon as I realised I had hit him and he was injured," I explained and tried my best to keep in my tears. I was really close to yelping.
"It's okay Miss. Do you know this person?" he asked and I slowly nodded my head.
"Yes. He's in my class."
"What is his name?" I didn't answer. I didn't know. The man was giving me a weird look and waved his free hand that was not writing on the little block that he wrote down my answers and story. "Miss?"
"I-I don't know," I stuttered, feeling even guiltier.
"But you said he was in your class?" the man asked confused and the tears fell down my cheeks.
"I'm new to school and I don't really know him that well. He has a nickname, but that's the only thing I know!" I blurted out. The man looked surprised, but still wrote down on the block, and then closed it and walked over to the two others that were placing him on a board to get him into the car.
"Check his pockets for wallet. We need to identify him." The men did what he said and searched. One of them found it and gave it to the man. The man opened it and wrote on the block again. I heard him mumble something, but I didn't clearly get it.
"W-What did you say his name was?" I stuttered, curious to death.
"Kim Taehyung."
