Chapter seventeen: rejection

Mina

Suddenly Taehyung stopped dancing and singing, and bent his back whilst breathing heavily. He held on his side with his hands whilst his face was making grimaces, notifying he was in pain. I stood up so fast that the chair I was sitting on flipped back and I ran over to him. He fell into my arms, and luckily I manage to catch him.

"Taehyung! Taehyung, are you okay? Are you in pain?" I asked in panic and he was groaning horribly.

"M-Medicine," he muttered weakly, and I quickly got his medicine out of my pocket and he drank it. He didn't look to be in much pain after a moment as he had calmed down, and he was able to stand on his own. "Thank you," he muttered softly as he looked me straight in the eyes. I nodded with a smiled and patted him on his shoulder.

"Of course," I replied and the other members gathered around him.

"Are you okay buddy?" Hoseok asked with wide eyes and everyone stared at him, scared for him.

"Yeah, I'm fine now." Yoongi glanced at me, and I looked back. I expected him to glare at me like usual, but he surprised me when he smiled softly with a small nod before patting gently on Taehyung's back, looking worried for him.

He must've understood that I care for him and we really were friends. I just hoped he didn't hate me anymore and had recognised and approved of our friendship.

Friday

It was finally Friday. The week felt like it had lasted for years, and I was glad it was soon the weekend to relax to. The only thing that bothered me was that Taehyung's father came home today after traveling with his work. How would things work out when Taehyung wasn't here all the time anymore? I knew I'd feel lonely...

His father had invited my parents and me for dinner at a restaurant; he was also paying, to show us his gratitude and to talk after not being able to these past years. My parents said a million times it was okay that he didn't have to pay for us, but he really insisted. I was worried it'd turn out quite expensive, but Taehyung convinced me that he earned a lot with his work.

"Mina!" I heard a familiar voice yell as I was by my locker at school. I glanced over my shoulder and spotted Shin approaching. I sighed and tried not to make eye contact with him.

"What?" I muttered coldly, and as he stood right beside me, he still didn't say anything. I felt annoyed and then met his gaze out of irritation. "What do you want?"

"I don't want us to be like this," he whined and placed his hand on my shoulder, but I shook it off, glaring at him.

"This is your fault Shin. It could've worked out, but you only cared for yourself and were selfish. If you want to blame someone, blame yourself," I said stubbornly, still acting cold towards him.

I headed towards Mina's locker to surprise her, but I found her talking to Shin. I didn't see his expression, only Mina's, and I made sure I could hear them without them catching me.

"I know it's my fault, and I regret it everyday! I regret it so much that it hurts. If I had the power to turn back time and change it, I would, but I can't. That's why I'm asking for forgiveness," Shin said, but Mina's expression didn't change.

"Well, yeah, obviously. You're not Superman either," she commented sarcastically and I quietly chuckled for myself without them noticing.

"Mina, please. I beg you."

"I don't care if you beg or not. It's too late Shin. You should think before your actions, not regretting your bad choices. You should think of this as a lesson and reflect on it," she said and took out her Biology book.

"I love you," he suddenly said and both Mina's and my mouth dropped opened. I felt like the time froze, and my heart was beating loudly. Did he just confess to her? She didn't change her mind, did she? Did he really mean it? Did he love her?

"I appreciate your feelings, but you're too late. You should forget about me," she said but surprisingly with a softer voice. Shin had his head downwards and I almost would've thought he had started crying.

"You love him, right?" he suddenly asked that surprised both Mina and me. I stared at her to look at her expression and her glance was soft, and she suddenly smiled softly, barely nodding.

"Yeah, I do," she admitted and my heart skipped a beat. I almost fell down on the floor for losing my balance after the shock I received. My body felt like it was paralyzed and I couldn't help but to grin. I tried to take a deep breath to calm myself down, and stop grinning, but my lips wouldn't listen to me. I had to hold my breath for not squeaking out in happiness and tried to keep quiet and listen to what more they'd say.

"I won't stand in the way anymore. I just hope you know what you're doing, and that he'll keep you happy. I don't want you to end up hurt," he said and I rolled my eyes. Bitch, I can make her happier than you could ever be able to.

"I know what I'm doing. Thank you, but I have to reject you," she said and he nodded weakly.

"I wish you happiness." She smiled, patted him on the shoulder, and walked pass him and over to my direction. I quickly hid behind the wall again and took big steps and pretended like I just came.

"Ah Mina!" I yelled cheerfully, pretending like I was never there, and she grinned as soon as she spotted me. "Your birthday is on Sunday, right? I have the most perfect present for you," I smirked and she chuckled.

"You didn't have to buy me a present," she said, but I disagreed.

"Of course I had to! I'll make sure it'll be the most perfect day for you," I insisted and she chuckled softly and we went to the class to have Biology. We had managed that we were now sitting beside each other instead of her having to deal with the annoying brat Shin.

"I'm really glad to see you guys again! I miss talking to you. And how are you Mina? You look beautiful, even more beautiful when you were younger," my father almost yelled out in happily when we all sat down at the restaurant we had planned to meet at. Mina giggled to herself and grinned at him whilst I nudged him, embarrassed over his behaviour.

"Thank you. I'm great, thanks," she replied and he cheered happily.

"That's good. Ah, Nara, still looking beautiful." He looked from her and to Mina's dad. "Jae Dae, my friend," he cheered whilst they hugged. "Long time, no see." They looked to be enjoying meeting each other again, and I felt even worse for not letting my dad to talk and meet them. I hadn't realised how selfish and arrogant I was in the past. How could I be like that? How could I be so blind?

"It's great to talk to you again," he said and they both cheered together.

After the adults had been chatting for God knows how long and we had finished out food, Mina and I excused ourselves, pretending to head to the toilet to take a break from them for a little while. My dad insisted that we'd eat dessert as well, but my tummy was denying it strongly. I had to at least wait before shoving more food in there.

"Is that real?" Mina asked when we spotted a toilet that was in a stall, but not in the Ladies' or Gentlemen's' bathroom.

I walked over to it, glancing at it and stood on top of it.

"Taehyung! Get down before you break it!" she whispered loudly and made hand signals for me to get down. Me, as stubborn as always, refused and continued to experiment it, and before I could react, it fell down. My body quickly caught its balance and I stood up straight, avoiding Mina's gaze and acted innocent whilst she was having breathing problems from laughing so much. "I told you", she chuckled and I couldn't help but to laugh along as well, and we headed back to the adults and ate our dessert, ignoring the fact that I broke a toilet, which couldn't be real anyways.
