Chapter 36 / Part 1
Before the sun can rise and let its rays touch the content faces of the pair of mates lying entangled with each other, Dima's eyes fluttered open at the chirping of birds. First, he looked at the time on his phone and then he looked at his mate who was sleeping peacefully beside him.
I should wake him up, Dima thought but retreated as he glanced at his mate.
His mate.
Saying the two words even in his mind gave him chills, of excitement as well as about the unseen, undecided future. The excitement was overwhelming and the fear unstoppable. Your insecurities crawl their way inside even when you are the definition of sunshine and everyone knew that Dima was nowhere near it.
Closing his eyes, he let excitement flow through him. He let it win. Happiness was more than he thought it was. This, here, is happiness and Chris is the key to it.
Chris was an adventure he would love to take on. The wind seemed to agree for he felt it kissing his cheek for the bravado. Although, he was jealous that the wind kissed Chris too.
I am turning into a poet, Chris is rubbing on me. He chuckled at his own thoughts and placed a kiss on Chris' neck like it was a norm.
Chris groaned and whispered Dima's name. Startled, Dima stared at him before he realized the Alpha was still asleep. The utterance of his name from Chris' mouth in his state of sleep gave Dima a giddy feeling. And damn, was his voice deep and husky in the morning!
It was sudden but unsurprising that a moan came out of Chris and he was making a duck face. Dima decided it was time to wake him up before he really starts rubbing on him.
"Chris, wake up!" Somebody shaking his body brought Chris out of his slumber. He blinked his eyes. His view was fantastic; he did not know a person was capable of looking like beautiful scenery. "Time to go, I have to check up on the house. My parents weren't home, neither was I."
"Back to your grumpy self?"
"No." Dima pecked Chris on his lips.
Chris was caught off guard by the affection coming from his mate. It left him speechless and his heart began hammering hard inside his chest. His brain was intact though. Even that did not last. It short-circuited when the first ray of the morning sun fell on Dima. In Chris' eyes, Dima looked ethereal. He was infatuated by the vampire since they first met and he took notice of the said male more than he did of any other. He knew Dima's jaw was sharp but was it this perfect always?
He didn't want Dima to leave him yet and his still non-functional brain blurted that out verbatim. "I don't want you to leave me yet."
"But I have to check up on the house Chris," Dima informed dejectedly.
"I stationed a few wolves outside the perimeter of your house no later than we left yesterday. They would have informed me if something was wrong. You can relax, they can look after your house for some more time. Come home with me for now, you can freshen up there and then we can go to Christopher together."
Dimitri discovered yet another virtue of Chris – thoughtfulness. Dima thanked him with eyes full of gratitude and Chris couldn't pass up the opportunity to tease Dima about it.
"Is that a 'thank you' I heard from the great vampire Dimitri?"
"Now now, don't test my patience. I won't be going all soft and googly-eyed toward you. I will still throw you down the hill. You will heal anyways."
"Ouch! That's harsh Dima. What if I get some serious injuries?" Dima felt his heart beating uncontrollably at the mention of Chris getting hurt. An uneasy feeling settled within him before he snapped himself out of it, reminding himself that they were joking.
Putting on a façade, he replied with fake seriousness. "Well, then you have your medicine right here," he gestured at himself. "I can help like I did last time."
"Oh, my Aphrodisiac."
Both of them burst out laughing at Chris' antics. "Crazy fucker, let's go now."
While moving down the hill, a thought struck Dima. "This hill is quite a lovely place and people must know that about it, then why were we the only people there?"
"Well, I might have asked the Alpha of this town for a favor," Chris admitted sheepishly, rubbing the side of his head.
"What favor?"
"I...I asked him to tell his pack not to stroll around or on the hill."
"And the humans?"
"He put a board of "Caution: Wolf sighted" board at the foot of the hill."
Dimitri didn't know whether to be impressed or depressed with Chris' intellect.
