Chapter 20

Kiss me on the mouth and set me free,
Sing me like a choir.
I can be the subject of your dreams,
Your sickening desire.
Don't you wanna see a man up close,
A phoenix in the fire.

So kiss me on the mouth and set me free,
But please, don't bite...

These lyrics from the song "Bite" were playing in Dima's mind while he was kissing Chris.

Bite... How ironic! he thought.

The lyrics suited their situation perfectly. The urge to kiss was strong, so was the sound of the vampire blood running in his veins. Whether it be a bite or a kiss, both were going to have identical consequences. Lethal consequences.

Need for air broke him out of his reverie. Sadly it also broke the kiss, leaving Dima disappointed and ashamed at getting disappointed in the first place.

"Wow!" Chris breathed, astonished.

Dima had to give it to Chris – he was definitely special, special in ruining moments.

"Don't go all crazy on me now, I had to do that because a guard was passing by. There'd be hell to pay if he saw you here," Dima answered before Chris could even ask. Chris was one curious cat. On second thought, that was insulting. To cats. Chris was a curious dog. Better now.

Dima pushed himself off Chris. The closeness between them without a reason had started feeling intimate and intimation with a mutt was the last thing he wanted.

Dima knowing the timing of guards and their guarding points was a given as it was his house and he planned on avoiding all those. If it was only him, he would have used the window, but the idiot puppy following behind him would be spotted right away. Whispering even a single word until they were out of the house was dangerous, but Chris didn't get the memo that his curiosity could get them in trouble.

"So...how many guards are there in total?"

"Enough to kick your ass if they see you, why?"

"No big reason, I just wanted to know the number of times we are gonna make out before we go on to our date."

Dima curbed the urge to strangle the werewolf and settled on giving him a death glare for then. "It is not a date. You challenged me, so going with you was inevitable."

The only good thing that happened during all the blabbering of Chris was that they got out of the house without anyone noticing them.

It didn't look like Chris was going to stop anytime soon. Having enough of the chirping wolf, Dima turned around and put his palm on Chris' mouth because he wasn't keeping quiet. His other hand was on the back of the wolf's neck, holding it firmly.

"Shut up! Tell me, where is your car?"

Dima wanted to get over with this 'date.' The faster they go, the faster they would come back. The feelings he was starting to have for Chris were not going to do anyone any good.

In answer to Dima, Chris just moved his eyes from left to right and then back.

Dima was confused by his actions. What the fuck?! He slowly removed his hand after giving Chris a warning glare.

"I didn't bring my car."

Dima looked at the man in front of him exasperatedly. "You asked me on a date and you didn't bring your car. Great! I am going back inside."

However, before he could take more than two steps, Chris put his arm around Dima's waist and pulled him back, resulting in Dima's back getting plastered to his chest. The vampire's heart started thudding rapidly. Chris leaned in, his mouth getting closer to Dima's neck and ear on the left side.

Dima could feel an increase in the intensity of Chris' hot breath and his body heat.

Bringing his mouth impossibly near, Chris whispered in his ear - "And now you admit that we are going on a date." Chris' voice was low and hoarse. "I said I didn't bring my car, I didn't say that I didn't bring a car. Can't have those muscular legs walking all the way, don't want you tired for later. I mean for dinner when I put something delicious in this toned stomach of yours." By the end, his hold around Dima's stomach tightened.

Right then and there, Dima melted. He did what he needed to do, what he should have done in that situation - he elbowed Chris. Hard. "Poor attempt to tempt me. Now where is that car you were talking about, mutt?"

Chris led them to his car, muttering and mumbling under his breath all the way. To summarize, he was sulking. Dima took it upon himself to point that out as soon as they sat inside and buckled themselves. "Are you sulking?" Chris huffed and started the car, still mumbling something inaudibly. Seeing an opportunity where he was not the one getting teased, Dima took it and all too cockily established – "Definitely sulking." Looks like the tables have turned, Dima laughed out loud when the thought entered his mind. A second later, it seized as Chris suddenly slammed the brakes. "Dammit, Chris! What's wrong with you? Wait, don't answer that. Everything is wrong with you."

Chris kept mum to Dima's raging figure, making Dima turn to look at him. The vampire found him sitting there without batting even an eyelash.

To bring Chris out of his stupor and obviously to punish him for giving him a scare, Dima hit the back of his head. And he succeeded; the werewolf finally spoke.

"You laughed."

Dima raised a perfectly shaped brow at Chris' statement. Was the werewolf making fun of him?

"You ass! You pulled this stupid stunt just so that you could make fun of me?"

"What? No.

No.

No.

No.

It is beautiful. Your laugh is beautiful."

Dima faltered at the unexpected praise. Words got stuck in his throat, his eyes blew wide with surprise and his soul started dancing.

Something clicked at that moment, something Dima couldn't put his finger on. But he was not Chris and hence, he didn't bluntly ask Chris whether he knew what that 'something' was. He was more afraid than he was curious.

Chris was his exact opposite – more curious than afraid...and a werewolf.

Instead of speaking his heart, he let out a fake sigh of frustration and spoke his mind. "Just start the car and stop speaking, you are giving me a headache." That was the only thing he could do - put on a front, a façade.

Chris started driving again but not before giving Dima a smile that Dima thought was breathtaking.

That damned smile.
