Chapter 9
The remaining cooperative students reconvened and shared their findings. Once they were done discussing, matters took a more serious turn as Maki brought up the discussion of killing Lyra once more.
"You can't do that! Then you'll die, just like...just like Janelle did," Tanya gulped when thinking about how Janelle had died. Something inside of her seemed to burst just at that thought. "We can't kill anymore! We're all friends-"
"Ya idiot! We've been betrayed by friends before!" Fuyuhiko couldn't help but voice his frustration. "Whats the difference now!?"
No one really knew what the answer was to that question. Truth be told, there was no difference; if anything, the situation was worse. They were down a detective who seemed to have a grasp on things and Lyra was actively trying to murder everyone now, not to mention Byakuya's constant threatening presence as well as Toko's and Nico's absences. Everything had only worsened; there was nothing to be done to stop anyone. It was only a matter of time until someone else killed. It was hopeless-
"Maybe there isn't a difference, but we can't start thinking like that!" Makoto exclaimed, a determined look on his face. Despite everything that had happened...they couldn't give up! They couldn't... "We have to stay strong. We can't give in to Monokuma's game! We can stop anyone trying to murder if we all work together!"
"Yeah! He's right!" Tanya agreed boldly. "Together we can stop Monokuma's stupid face and anyone that tries to follow him!"
"Oh, but can you really?"
Lyra smugly walked in unaccompanied. The smile was still on her face, albeit without the faked joy. Surprisingly, Nico was nowhere in sight. Instantly, everyone tensed up; and Lyra found herself with a knife in her direction and multiple others ready to fight.
"Whoa, whoa. So hostile," Lyra chuckled. "Don't you think I would have at least brought a weapon if I wanted to fight right now?"
That...was a good point, but no one was deterred.
Maki only clutched her knife tighter as she narrowed her eyes.
"What are you doing here? I won't let you harm anyone here."
"Are you sure? I mean...your head isn't looking so good right now," Lyra laughed. In an instant, Maki lurched forward, barely stopped by Shuichi. "What's the matter? Master got his leash on you, Kiki?"
"What do you want?" Hajime asked warily.
"What? I'm not allowed to hang out with my favorite people? Well, ex-favorite, but still."
"No, quite frankly, you're not welcome here," Maki responded. The death glare was still on her face. "We don't want anything to do with you. You're actively threatening us."
"Would you believe me if I told you I did it out of love? I love you so much that your betrayal just kills me enough to want me to take you out of your misery? ...Cause that'd be a lie. I could never love anyone that doesn't trust everyone!"
"You keep talking like we betrayed you, but we didn't do anything like that!" Aoi protested, confused by Lyra's insane logic. "Nothing that we did makes us deserving of death!!"
"Ah, but that's where you're wrong. We're all humans, prone to betrayal and distrust. It didn't take long for Janelle to snap, and frankly, Kyoko didn't even trust our process. I really did try to stop it, you know. But Janelle had a weapon, I didn't. I may be awesome, but even I don't stand a chance against the Ultimate Archer when she's got such a lead on me," Lyra yawned. "I had to retreat and leave just so that I still had a chance to kill you all later."
"You tried to...stop her?" Himiko's eyes widened. "Was that when Hajime was sleeping?"
"Pfft, no! I was just lying. I had no idea Janelle was killin' Kyoko. But mainly, we all fell to distrust soon enough. So it's time to die!"
"Stop. I've heard enough of your twisted logic," Hajime commanded, his head beginning to twist and turn. She reminded him of someone, and it was not in a pleasant way. "Just shut up."
"Aw, but I have interesting news," Lyra said before she lowered her hand. "...When I was exploring the floor, I found something pretty interesting! I'm assuming it was left behind by someone purposely, since it was just lying around, but here."
She tossed something down to the ground; a book. Shuichi cautiously grabbed it and began flipping through.
"This is...an overview of everyone's combat ability?" Shuichi frowned. "What in the world...? It's got a short blurb on everyone..."
"Why did you give this to us?" Sonia asked cautiously and hopefully. "Is it because you still believe in us? We did not betray you, so-"
"Well, I think you all should be aware of what everyone can do. Unfortunately, you disgraceful wretches are so full of distrust that I'm sure you're going to use this just to try and kill someone, but...I'm choosing to believe that I'm wrong about that. So, here you go! But don't you dare tell Byakuya...that little bitch doesn't deserve it."
"What did you just call him!?" A loud, high-pitched, sinister voice entered the room, her usually braided hair undone and tangled into long tresses. She held two specialized scissors in her hands and a devilish grin. "You're just a dumb girl! You have no right to call Master that!!"
"Ah! Genocide Jack!" Hiro immediately cowered at the recognition. The other Hope's Peak graduates nodded in realization along with Sonia...while everyone else remained confused.
"Genocide Jack is a serial killer who murders only boys with a beautiful arrangement of their body and her scissors!" Sonia explained, her eyes wide and excited. "I...was not aware Genocide Jack was a girl?"
"Ah, you guys can call me Genocide Jill! And yes! I'm indeed a girl," The new personality of Toko screeched. "But moving on to more important matters...you! How dare you disrespect Master like that!!"
"Oh, please. He's just as disgusting as the rest of us."
"You take that back!"
Genocide Jill suddenly launched herself at Lyra, who responded by joining in the scuffle. As the two continued to fight, the rest of the people just...ignored them. After all, the two were just such overwhelming and obnoxious personalities that no one had the energy to deal with.
"So she's a confessed serial killer? We've got to get rid of her, right?" Akane asked, forgetting how Maki and Fuyuhiko were practically just as bad as Genocide Jill with their track records.
"W-Well, maybe it won't be such a big deal," Himiko said. Just as she said that, Lyra cried out in irritation as one of Jill's blades nicked her cheek. "O-Or not."
"...We have got to take every precaution we can to avoid another murder," Hajime shook his head. "Someone needs to stop and restrain both of them!"
"He's right. Kyoko should have never died..." Makoto had to take a moment to collect himself as his words caught up in his throat. "...We...We can't let anything else happen like that again. Even if they aren't the best people, we can't let anyone die..."
"...Do we really have to let Lyra live?" Maki couldn't help but scowl, and when everyone eyed her, she sighed. "Fine. I'll get Toko...Jill...whatever."
"Then I'll go get Lyra!" Akane roared before she jumped into the fray. Before long, the two were separated. While Jill was still struggling, Lyra straightened up and smiled.
"Thanks! 'ppreciate it," Lyra grinned. "Sometimes humans aren't total trash, after all."
"The only trash here is you," Fuyuhiko shook his head in disapproval. "You're a monster."
"I know. Therefore I'm not human, and I'm exempt!" Lyra giggled. "Now, ta-ta! I've got to go think of a way to kill all of you. Perfect, right?"
Lyra disappeared, leaving the rest of the group to snarl.
"One day she'll get what she deserves..."
