Chapter 12
Another morning, another day.
For Monokuma, that simply meant another motive.
After the usual morning announcement woke them all up, Monokuma invited everyone down to the gym. This was one announcement everyone went to...
Well, except for the people who were physically unable to do so.
"What the hell does Monokuma have that makes him think he can make us murder!?" Fuyuhiko exclaimed grumpily, his babyish cheeks red with anger. "He's just a stuffed bear!"
"This stuffed bear is orchestrating a killing game, so I'm going to assume he's actually got quite a lot," Kazuichi said with a nervous laugh. "B-But that doesn't mean anything. He's got nothing on all of us!"
"Hmph. Ignorance as usual," Byakuya couldn't help but mutter, much to everyone's annoyance. Maki narrowed her eyes at him.
"Byakuya..."
"H-Huh...s-strange that I-I'm not b-being harassed at the m-moment.." Nico mumbled, her eyes glancing around nervously as she looked for the girl who wouldn't leave her alone. "I-I-Is everything o-okay? Isn't t-this mandatory-"
"Um..." Maki hesitated, not knowing what to say in the slightest. She wasn't a convincing liar in the slightest. Her eyes darted to Kazuichi, but he didn't say anything either, his eyes full of just as much panic as hers. "Hopefully...not."
"I'm surprised either of them would refuse to show up," Aoi said. "That doesn't seem like something either of them would do, especially Toko since Byakuya is here."
"Well, I don't think we should be complaining. I don't really want to hear either of them," Hajime replied, a fact that no one was going to dispute.
"Yeah! I mean, with all of us here, nothing bad could happen," Makoto said hopefully. Of course. at that very moment, Monokuma decided to make his appearance, lowering the atmosphere by a considerable amount with his annoying giggle.
"Puhuhu! Are you so sure about that?" Monokuma laughed from where he sprung up on them from the gym. "I mean, Janelle didn't even need a motive to kill someone!"
"Don't-Don't you speak her name! You don't deserve that," Tanya exclaimed. "Kyoko, too. You're the one to blame!"
"Sure, sure...Well, anyway. Aren't you curious as to what this is?" Monokuma held up a package, complete with everyone's names on said package. "I'm sure you're all interested to know what's in here."
"Is there food?" Akane perked up before she narrowed her eyes. "Wait, this is probably a trap...you! You're trying to make us murder... ! I'll destroy you!"
"Well, that's not very nice! Anyway, guess I'll just...leave these here," Monokuma tossed the packages up before he let them scatter to the ground. "Bye bye!"
Hesitantly, everyone looked over toward what he had thrown. Curiosity couldn't help but poke at everyone's conscience as they all glanced at each other.
"W-We shouldn't look at these," Makoto suggested," this is an obvious trap..."
"But...I wanna know!" Hiro cried out. "Like, what if there's a way to get out in those packages? Like, remorse psychology or whatever!"
"Reverse psychology, you mean?" Tanya chuckled nervously before she glanced toward Makoto. "I don't think we should look. I mean, just to be safe..."
"Right...This is Monokuma, after all," Sonia agreed. "He would try to lead us into a trap."
Everyone nodded, but the air was still heavy and tense. No one's eyes had been torn off of the packages yet. Everyone was too focused on the possibility of escape, or the dread that could await them...
"...T-This was a waste o-of time," Nico pulled her hood over her head further. "I-I'm leaving..."
"No you're not! You...I need you!" Akane suddenly exclaimed as she dashed in front of Nico. Nico stood at high alert, her eyes dashing from side to side nervously.
"W-What-?"
"You...I can bench you!" Akane said with a grin. "You're nice and light! You can be my warm-up! Then I'll go to someone heavier, like Hajime or something!"
"W-Why are you benching people!?" Hajime asked as he shook his head in confusion. "...Well, whatever I guess..."
"W-Who said I e-even agreed-" Nico grumbled, "I-I'm not going."
"But ya can help me get stronger!" Akane exclaimed, "I'll get you a chicken! Or whatever you want."
"A chicken? Is that perhaps some sort of tradition?" Sonia tilted her head to the side in confusion, "I was not aware chicken had that sort of impact."
"Uh, no, it's not," Shuichi said, much to Sonia's disappointment. "A-Anyways...why don't we just leave these here for now? We can all make an oath to not look."
"Alright, that sounds good."
"Well, what about Lyra and Toko? Who's going to tell them?" Aoi asked, and Maki silently shifted looks with Kazuichi and Byakuya, who said nothing.
"Can we even...trust them not to open the packages?" Himiko frowned, "and that man too," she pointed to Byakuya, "how can we really trust that they won't just go behind our backs...? It's not like we're together all the time..."
"Hm...Maybe we should be together all the time!" Tanya suggested as she waved her arms up and down. "Then no one can be in danger!"
"I mean...that sounds fine, but really, no privacy...?" Maki played with her ponytails. "I mean, there's still...stuff...I need to attend to."
"Like...dirty stuff?" Kazuichi brought a hand to his mouth to hide the drool dripping from his mouth before he cleared his throat, ignoring Maki's death glare. "U-Uh, my heart only belongs to Miss Sonia!"
"You idiot. Maki has to go make sure that the dangers are secure," Byakuya said carefully. Aoi nodded.
"Yeah, the armory. Good idea!"
"Y...Yeah, the armory," Maki muttered. "Well, guess that's that, then...Are you going to come with me, Kazuichi?"
"Huh? Oh, yeah, I guess," Kazuichi nodded before he trotted off with Maki. He would go on to watch the armory while Maki would head off towards the chemistry lab. The others were left in the gym, uncomfortable with the packages still on the ground.
"Hey...I know we agreed not to open these fuckin' packages, but we should open Lyra's," Fuyuhiko suggested, "maybe it'll help us understand what in the world she's so deranged about."
"But then we might all be tempted to look at our own based on what we see!" Sonia exclaimed. "I believe we should all just play everything as safe as possible."
"I mean...honestly, I'm really curious as to what's in those packages," Tanya admitted as she played with the end of her long blue ponytail. "But that'd be kinda wrong to look for someone else. That's their own business."
"But if the information in these packages could help us solve a future murder case, then the information is vital," Hajime frowned. "Wouldn't you think?"
"W-What future murder case? We can't think so pessimistically. We're not letting anything else happen ever again!" Aoi huffed. "Anyway, Shuichi, you should just...take all these packages into your room! Then no one can take them."
"My magic...says that Shuichi has no idea what you're talking about," Himiko remarked, "why Shuichi...?"
"Well, he's the detective! He's obviously the most trustworthy..."
"That means nothing!" Fuyuhiko barked before he took a deep breath to try and compose himself. "Forget it. We should just lock these in the chem lab. Then no one will have access to them."
"That's not a bad idea," Shuichi agreed. "I...I think this will work. We can stop another murder from everyone happening every again..."
"Yes...with all these preventative measures, we're sure to stop anyone!"
