What if Maki got roped into the execution as an accomplice?//

"What..?" Shuichi stopped mid-sentence.

"You heard me. Any accomplices are getting executed this time! Puhuhu~" Monokuma's foul laughter rang through the trial room and slowly faded away, becoming a dreadful echo.

"But I killed Kokichi. Me! Why are you executing Maki-roll too if I dealt the final blow?!" Kaito yelled unexpectedly, making Shuichi jump. He looked devastated. In despair, and absolutely horrified. Exactly what Monokuma wanted.

"Kaito.. It's okay. I.. I've killed more people than I can count. I think this just balances the scale out." Maki lowered her head, a hint of resignation and sadness in her tone. Kaito looked desperately, feverishly, towards Maki, his mouth moving but no sound exiting out.

Kaito just held up, striding limply towards Maki before gingerly holding a hand out, a solemn look on his face. As soon as Maki touched him he pulled her into a back-breaking hug and his loud sobs emitted from the huddle.

"You were supposed to escape! And leave! And- and you're gonna die because of a stupid mistake I made. You're never gonna go home now!" He cried, his sobs choking the words out with difficulty. "Kaito, I am home." She said, staring into his mauve hair with a sorrowful gaze.

The chains whipped out of the walls, seemingly out of nowhere as they ripped the two apart harshly. "Maki!! NO!" Kaito yelled, snapping back into reality, realising the gravity of the situation. "KAITO! I LOV-" Gone. Execution start. "I love you, Maki-roll." He whispered tenderly as he was snapped back into his execution too.
