Ch1: I used to be as innocent as you (Daily Life pt4)
Bing Bong Ding Dong!
"Iiiiiiiit's morning time, employees! Time to wake up for breakfast before heading to work!" A voice that filled up my room shouted. Must be MonoHum.
I sat up and yawned. It was too early for this. Way too early.
After rubbing my eyes, I got off my bed and went to the drawers to get my clothes. I quickly changed out of my pajamas and into the clothes.
Then I decided to go into a small corner of my dorm into a small doorway that I've been meaning to check out when I came into my dorm but was too sleepy to check out.
It was a personal bathroom with a sink, toilet and shower.
I washed my hands and face. As I was drying off my face with a towel, I heard a knock on my door.
I quickly tossed the towel onto the shower hold and ran towards the door. I typed in the code and my door opened to reveal Deets and Karin.
"Howdy, young Yuga. Sleep well?" Deets asked.
"Kinda. You?" I asked.
"Not much. I was also in a room that I was not very familiar with so that is what probably kept me up," Deets replied.
"Same here," Karin nodded.
"I see, so are you and Deets from different time eras?I know that you're not in the same time era as most of us but even you two aren't from the same time era," I noted.
"I guess so. I'm from 1870 if you want a specific year," Deets said.
"1870?! I wasn't expecting that far," I gasped.
"Wow, I honestly thought you and I were much closer in time," Karin noted, placing a finger on her chin.
"Well when are you from, Ms.Karin?" Deets asked.
"1930," Karin replied.
"You two are old," I noted, sweatdropping.
"Ha! That's surprisingly not the rudest thing that I've heard," Karin giggled.
"Better than what Cartman, Ms. Twyla, or Mr. Harper would say," Deets said.
"I think Charlie is kind of nice compared to those two," I said.
"Hmmm, maybe. Well, I think we should head over to get some breakfast. The others will be waiting," Karin stated.
I gasped excitedly, "Breakfast!" I was starving and I haven't even realized it.
The three of us walked to the food court and most people were there.
Joel looked up and motioned us over.
"Are we having breakfast here?" I asked, excitedly.
"Apparently so. Check your phones, something was unlocked in it last night," Joel explained.
I took out my phone and saw that a new app has appeared.
MealTickets.
I looked through it and saw that we all get three free meal tickets for every meal of the day like breakfast, lunch and dinner. Looking through it some more revealed that depending on certain objectives that we do, we can earn more meal tickets or we buy them for the low low price of 5 HumCoins.
"So this is what we use for purchasing food," I noted.
"Well nothing beats a homemade meal," I heard Karin say to Deets.
"Can't argue with that," Deets agreed.
Some people were already in line in some of the booths. Specifically the ones that were serving breakfast.
I went to the small line that contains Sparks and Ally. They were chatting about something.
"So you were in space? That's so cool! How did you do it?" Ally asked.
"I...don't fully remember but all I know is that crew wouldn't go on with the mechanic extraordinaire!" Sparks bragged.
"Sounds like an important job," I spoke up and he nodded, enthusiastically. "Sure is! Without me, everything will fail!" Sparks exclaimed.
"Wow, I wasn't expecting that to be extremely serious but I get it though. You got to keep things in check especially if you're up there in space," Ally said.
"So very true," I nodded and we went up the line to order food. The restaurant we were ordering from was named DesireEats and it had four mascots. A white and red fox, a black and gold cat, a purple and orange bull and a green and black tanuki. It served breakfast and lunch.
Sparks ordered a stack of chocolate and banana pancakes, Ally ordered multi-berry crepes and I ordered strawberry waffles. We all went our separate ways and I sat in between Eddie and Circus Baby.
Eddie had a plate of scrambled eggs and ham while Circus Baby had nothing. "Do animatronics eat?" I asked, hoping that I wasn't too insensitive. "I just need power to keep me going...most of the time anyway but for food for you humans, no. I wish I could eat just like you though," Circus Baby sighed.
"Ah, I see. But you're ok with us eating food in front of you?" I asked. "I'm fine with that," Circus Baby assured me with a well meaning yet creepy smile.
"Wouldn't do much good if you don't eat," Eddie spoke up. "I guess you're right. Well, time to eat!" I said, clapping my hands together before digging into my waffles.
As we were eating, Eddie, Circus Baby and I began to chat. "So, did you sleep well?" I asked and Eddie shrugged. "Had a full 3 hours of sleep which is a new record. I usually have 1," he said. "Don't humans need at least 8 hours of sleep?" Circus Baby asked.
"It is what it is," Eddie said while I just nodded at her. "I slept surprisingly well but I know that it was just too early for me to wake up," I explained.
"Does this have to do with the jobs that MonoHum told us about?" Circus Baby asked. "Possibly, most jobs require you to get a good night's sleep and to wake up early in the morning. I worked multiple jobs in the past before I became a journalist," Eddie replied.
"I wonder why we are doing these jobs if we're the only ones here?" I asked before eating a piece of my waffle. Eddie shrugged. "Who knows? Maybe this is MonoHum's way of torturing us," he said.
"Yes since there are children here and who was it that said there were laws against child labor?" Circus Baby asked. "It might have been Ally, I don't remember. But still...," I trailed off and stared angrily at the remains of my breakfast.
"Still?" Circus Baby asked, tilting her head with her green eyes glowing. "MonoHum mentioned that the law can't touch us here like the police or those Texas Rangers that Deets mentioned. A lawless place with few rules...it's terrifying," I explained.
"I feel you but I think it's better to have hope than wallow in despair. We'll get through this, the bird will eventually give up if we stay vigilant," Eddie said, suddenly. "What's with the motivational speech?" Circus Baby asked.
"Well," Eddie pushed away his plate that just had some scraps of eggs on it, "I have done some...thinking last night and I came to a conclusion." "Which is?" I asked.
He continued, "I don't plan on dying here. At all. It doesn't take the world's smartest minds to figure out that everyone here is thinking the same thing. That's why I'm not giving up on finding an exit, I WILL find it...for everyone's sake."
"..."
Eddie sounded so determined and his posture straightened up. Even Circus Baby sounded impressed.
"..."
"Yeah...yeah, I believe you. I'm not going to give up either. This will be our Road, our Road to getting out of here," I declared. Speaking of Roads, I wonder if I'm able to build something to get us out of here? I thought. "I do agree, let's get out of here. All of us," Circus Baby nodded.
Breakfast ended in high spirits!
Until...
Bing Dong!
"All employees head to the fountain. Attendance is mandatory so if you're not there, you'll be getting the axe! Aka die!" MonoHum's voice could be heard from the speakers.
"And there he goes, ruining the good mood," I sighed. "Don't worry, Yuga. I'm sure that it won't be too bad of a news," Circus Baby assured me.
"He's probably going to talk about the jobs," Eddie said with Joel nodding as he was walking by us. "I have been thinking long and hard about that and was wondering why we're going to work whatever jobs he has planned for us," Joel explained.
After he said that, we all went to the fountain. MonoHum was waiting for us. "Ok, stupid bird, what the f*ck are these jobs that you're going to make us do?" Cartman asked.
"Straight to the point, huh? Well, the mall needs business to run and it needs workers so that's why you're here besides the killing game. So on your phones, I have unlocked something for you to look at your schedules and what kind of jobs that you'll have," MonoHum explained.
"But why would we need jobs here?" Ally asked. "Because I said so! Besides, business needs to run so you get jobs. Also pay is good," MonoHum explained.
"How good?" Charlie asked and everyone looked at him. "Dude," Arataka shook his head, disappointed.
"What? It's a perfectly valid question, how good is the pay? Does it make it worth it to be in this hellhole while having that job?" Charlie asked. "Yeah, I guess you're right but now isn't the time to ask. You probably should have asked later," Arataka pointed out.
"This isn't the time to discuss that. MonoHum, I have another question to add on to Ally's? Why would we need jobs here if there's no one else but us?" Karin asked and MonoHum giggled behind his wing.
"Admittedly, it won't be a bustling mall like the ones we see in today's time but alas, a business must run. Anyway, I got your job listings and I'm sending them to your phones right now," he explained and as soon as he said that, we heard a ding noise coming from our pockets.
We all pulled out our phones and I looked at mine.
Your job is at Cabello's, selling tools.
"...huh?" I asked, confused. "Is there even a bar here?" I overheard Charlie and Cartman just rolled his eyes while looking at his.
"Ok, now head to your jobs! And don't be late from here on out. I'll even let you know when you get your breaks But be wary, someone may take the time to murder one of you," MonoHum said.
"Enough of that, we won't kill anyone and we'll prevent any murders," Joel glared, placing his hands on his hips.
"Oh so naive. As a king, you should know better than to run with that narrative," MonoHum shook his head before disappearing.
"What a sicko. Well what should we do now?" Deets asked and turned to look at the rest of us with his hands in his pockets. Eddie tapped his phone with a raggedy pencil that he had before sighing.
"For now, we do these jobs. But keep an eye out for an exit and report anything that can be useful to the rest of the group. Don't keep anything from us that can benefit us in leaving," he explained and took a long stare at Charlie, Cartman and Twyla.
"Hey don't look at me. I want to leave just as much as you do," Charlie said, putting his hands up, defensively. "You think I want to be in this sh*t hole with you f*ckers! I got places to be," Cartman added while Twyla said nothing but just pushed up her glasses.
"Well one thing is for sure, we have to be cautious. Murder or not, there's something that doesn't sit right with me," Arataka noted. "My my, once again your psychic powers are at it again!" Tamaki snapped his fingers and Arataka joyfully laughed at this.
"H-he's right. I feel like there's something wrong with this m-mall," Tabby piped up. She hasn't spoken much now that I think about it. Maybe she only speaks when she thinks it is necessary?
If that's the case, then I think that both Tabby and Arataka are right. There's something wrong with the mall and I want to figure it out for everyone's sake.
"We're going to get out of here...I swear," I muttered under my breath.
