Chapter 2 Daily Life part 4

The rest of us gathered at the dining room to share what we got. Sora explained what she gathered with me adding a few more pieces of information, specifically the lemony scent.

Yuki explained the pencils and that some supplies were fresh and new and some weren't. Amy talked about the desks and the books in English.

Toshino explained the tank in the room and Minami slightly mentioned the chains and hooks. Like she was hiding something.

In fact, Minami has been acting awfully strange while the rest of us were talking. Like she wanted to say something else.

Anyway, Jun said that he found a blank room. Nothing but white walls. And then he casually explained that he also saw some restraints in the corner which made me almost choke on my own spit.

What the hell? Why did he say that so casually? Does he have a death wish or something?! I thought as Yuki thumped my back.

"So it's like an asylum room?" Amy asked. "How do you know what they look like?" Uyeda asked. "Mainly pop culture really," Amy explained.

"I'm not quite sure what that room is for. Monkomi popped up and told me to get out of there so I didn't end up exploring it as much. I joined Hirohito and Toshiaki in the room that they were exploring," Jun explained.

Weird. Why would Monkomi tell Jun to get out? I wondered.

"The three of us found a band room. There wasn't a lot of instruments though. Just a few guitars, electric and acoustic, a piano in the back, a microphone for singing and a drum set!" Toshiaki explained, very enthusiastic about the drum set.

"Th-the thing is that the i-instruments looked like th-they were cleaned throughly. E-even having some maintenance to th-them. V-v-very strange don't you th-think?" Hirohito said, still stuttering in his words.

"Just like how Kuro mentioned. They smelled of lemons. Whoever is this mastermind, they must really like using the lemon cleaning spray or whatever they are called," Jun pointed out.

"It appears that they must be hiding something," Sora noted. Everyone seemed to be more or less in agreement that something is being kept hidden from us. What exactly is being hidden remains a mystery...for now.

Uyeda explained how Ichigo and him found another storage room. It was filled with some cleaning supplies but no lemon smelling supplies. It was connected to another room which Ichigo nicknamed 'The Candle room' because it was filled with candles. They weren't lit up so we wouldn't need to worry about a fire being started.

"What I find interesting is that out of all the cleaning supplies there, there is none that smell like lemons," Amy spoke up.

"M-maybe the m-mastermind was also h-hiding this so we wouldn't g-get an easy answer to wh-what they may be h-hiding," Hirohito suggested.

Hirohito's words had me thinking. Whoever this mastermind is, they must be very secretive and they don't want any of us to find a way out.

"What about you Kazuno and Kana?" Sora asked. "Nothing important really. We found a theater room where we can watch movies and such," Kazuno explained.

"Movies?" Yuki asked. "Yep, there is even one that Minami directed. It said so on the back of the cover," Kazuno explained. Minami perked up at this.

"R-really?" She asked. Kana fanned her face and said, "Still wouldn't recommend seeing it though."

"Hey that's not very nice," Kazuno exclaimed. "I'm staying out of this one," Yuki rested his chin on the table. "Same," Ichigo yawned.

"Again? Do we really have to start arguing?" Sora asked. "We're not going to get anything done if we keep at it at each other's throats," Amy pointed out. Yeah they're right. If we keep at it like this, then it would be harder to work together if a murder happens. And that's a big if! I thought.

"I won't argue if she doesn't piss me off," Minami snapped. "I can't help it. It is my Ultimate to review movies," Kana pointed out. This is going to cause many problems in the later run, I thought.

"Why don't we watch one to see how bad it really is?" Jun suggested. "And that's my cue to leave," Toshino said, getting up. He walked out but tripped on the rug, causing his glasses to fall off. "F*ck," he muttered as he tried to look for them.

(No he's isn't blind without his glasses. His eyesight is just blurry so he still can see but he has to squint to look for objects. The smaller the object is, the harder it is for him to find it.)

"I already seen them so there's no need," Kana explained. "Well you try to direct a movie with a bunch of middle schoolers and a very tight budget!" Minami snapped and ran out of the dining room but not before we heard a Crack!

"..."

"..."

"..."

"I swear if those were my glasses, I'm going to be seriously pissed off," Toshino said in a low voice even though his voice was already as deep as it is.

Nobody dared to move. Not even a muscle. It felt like everyone was holding their breath.

...

...

...

...

"Kuro why don't you go and check it out?" Jun suggested after a while.

"Why me?" I asked, lowering my voice.

"Well it's obvious that out of all of us here, he clearly likes you the most," Sora pointed out. I felt myself go red at this. "C-can you not word it like that?" I asked.

"More like he can tolerate you the most," Yuki muttered, tiredly. Ok maybe that's true...BUT THEY DIDN'T NEED TO WORD IT LIKE THAT! I mentally screamed. How embarrassing.

"I can still hear you guys," Toshino grumbled. I got up and went to see if that sound we heard was Toshino's glasses breaking. It's pretty obvious that it was but still they wanted me to check. I value my life you know? I don't want to risk myself being near a seriously pissed off Toshino.

Unfortunately, my suspicions were correct. Those were indeed Toshino's broken glasses. Well rest in peace me. I lived a happy life.

"Let me guess. They are broken," Toshino said. "..." "Yeah...," I said before rushing back to the table. Like I said before, I value my life.

"I'm sure that there are eye contacts in the nurse's office that you can use for now," Uyeda assured him. Toshino sat down on the floor, his arms crossed.

Just when things couldn't have gotten any worse, Monkomi popped up. That little f*cker.

"Hoohoo~ students. I see that something has been broken," he said.

"No shit Sherlock," Toshino grumbled.

"Not to worry, I'll get your glasses fixed up in no time~. That goes for everyone here. If any of you have a problem that seems like there is no solution, then come to me!" Monkomi explained.

Everyone stared at the monkey robot in disbelief. Why is he acting all nice? I don't like it, I thought.

"Wha? You think I'll just let you all die here unless it's a murder? I'm not that heartless, there's food, warm water, electricity, a roof over your head, comfortable beds and I even unlocked some fun places around here. How ungrateful of you!" Monkomi shook his little fist at us.

"It's not like we're ungrateful. It's just that...well," Kazuno tried saying the words but she couldn't seem to have the right words coming out. Monkomi, however, seemed to know what she wanted to say.

"If you don't kill, you would all get to live here for the rest of your lives in luxury," he said. This caused a shiver to go up my spine and I doubt I was the only one who felt that way.

"So about my glasses?" Toshino asked, changing the subject.

"Hmm? Ah yes yes. I'll get them fixed up around two days if I'm not extremely busy. In the meantime," Monkomi tossed the aqua green haired boy something. Toshino looked confused.

"These are my contacts. Where did you get them? I don't remember packing them when I left for Hope's Peak," he asked.

"Hoohoo~! That's my little secret. I got all of your necessary nicknacks that you need. Contacts, toiletries, pads for the girls, you name it! Even your personal stuff that you need," Monkomi explained. I feel like he knows almost everything about us. But how? I thought.

"So when you say everything, do you mean everything?" Uyeda asked.

"Yeppers! I can't just have you all die of natural causes right away. Where's the fun in that?" Monkomi explained.

This brought me back to what Robin talked about. About the mastermind having fun behind the scenes. I clenched my fist at this. Monkomi may seem helpful now but one of these days, he's going to show his true colors.

(Time skip)

I was wandering around the hallways again. Maybe I'll go look at the second floor to see what else I probably missed, I thought. I stopped however, when I heard sniffling sounds.

They were coming from Minami's dorm. I hesitate before knocking on the wall next to the opened door. "Hey are you ok in there?" I asked.

"Does it look like I'm ok? *sniff*," Minami responded. Guess she's still hurt from what Kana said to her, I thought.

I was never good at comforting people. That was my brother's job. He was always there for me and my sister, especially me since I would have panic attacks. It has gotten better later on but whenever I did have one, he would always be there to help.

"Are you *sniff* just going to stand there, pitying me?" Minami asked. "N-no...I...well," I tried to explain but couldn't quite get the words out.

I took a deep breath and asked, "Do you need some time to yourself or?" "What do you think?!" Minami snapped. Ohhhh I feel a headache coming, I thought.

"Look I'm not the best at comforting people but hear me out. Don't listen to Kana, even though she claims she's doing what her talent is, that still doesn't give her the right to be extremely rude to you. You're going to meet people like her in life but if you surround yourself with friends or people you trust, you wouldn't be in this position. It's alright to cry because you're showing the correct emotion but it can easily be replaced with something else like a smile. You'll be alright," I explained.

Minami was speechless, her eyes no longer flowing with tears. We stared at each other for a long time before I smiled at her and waved goodbye at her.

Now what do I do? I wondered. I glanced at the clock and saw that it was evening. Well I guess I can go and get some dinner.

I walked to the dining to see that there was only one person there. Oddly it was Toshino and he was looking tired and stressed.

I went to the kitchen to see what I can find to eat. I eventually settled on some microwaveable ramen. Simple, yet good.

Once the ramen was prepared and it cooled down a little, I head over to the table to eat. No one else was there but Toshino, who had his head resting on the table. Facing the wall, his back turned to me.

I sat down a chair from him and set down my ramen. "Thank you for the food," I muttered under my breath and began to eat.

While I was eating, Toshino just sat there, not even facing me. I wonder what's he thinking about? I thought. It wasn't until midway through my ramen when Toshino finally spoke up.

"Tried cheering up Minami?" He asked.

"Eh yeah? What's wrong with that?" I asked, turning to him.

"You do realize that it'll take more than just words and optimism for her to get up on her feet and not feel sorry for herself and stand up to Kana right? She has to let go of that ego of hers and actually do something about it," Toshino said.

I clenched my fist at this.

"Oh like you're one to talk about egos. Just the hell is your problem? If we don't at least try to get along then it would make this game much more easier for the mastermind," I explained.

"No the mastermind wants despair. That's what they are gaining from this game. It's sickening to think about," Toshino pointed out.

He may have a point but...

"Then I'll take down the mastermind by not giving them despair. The killing game won't go on. I'll make sure of that," I said, determined but that only received a snort from him.

"It would take more than determination to stop them," he said.

"..."

"Listen, currently what you are doing here is admirable I'll give you that. But this game...it'll break down even the most unbreakable of people. No one is safe until the mastermind gets their despair. Even then, who knows when they are satisfied," Toshino explained.

"..."

I slammed my fist on the table, making him flinch. "It's like you have already given up. That's fine by me if you don't contribute but I can't stand here doing nothing. I'll take down the mastermind no matter what. Whether you're with me or not," I explained, jabbing my index finger at his direction.

"..."

He then sat up straight and turned his head to face me. I had to stop myself from exhaling sharply at this. He looked different from when he was wearing his glasses.

"You speak like a Shounen protagonist. I guess I'll give you props for staying determined and not giving in into despair. Do whatever you like, I won't stop you," he said. Not exactly what I was expecting.

The nighttime announcement played and Toshino stood up suddenly.

"Well, see you tomorrow Kuro. That is if you don't die," he said, waving at me.

"Wait! If you say I'm like the protagonist, then role are you?" I asked suddenly. Stupid question! I thought and was waiting for his insult.

He stayed quiet about this before responding, "That's up to you but if I had to say maybe an antagonist but who knows. Let's just say, you'll have to wait for the trial to see our roles in action," he explained before winking.

That was pretty straightforward but I have an odd feeling...that he might be hiding something, I thought as he walked away.

Guess I should head to bed, I thought as I cleaned up my spot.

I headed to my dorm and saw that some were already heading to their dorms. I felt weird, somewhat light. Eh probably nothing.

All I really did was talk to Toshino and got a little mad at him. He made the atmosphere feel negative. Why does he do that anyway? Does he not care about the rest of us? I wondered as I got ready for bed.

What's he hiding? Was my last thought as I drifted off to sleep.
