Chapter 5 Deadly Life part 4: Trial

"Kaz didn't kill her. I did! I killed Leafpool!" Susie shouted.

"I don't believe it! What a twist!" Monokuma gasped.

"Shut up! You're not involved in this!" Ed snapped.

"Rude," Monokuma turned away.

"Impossible, I don't believe that Susie killed Leafpool," Mukuro shook her head.

"Well this is confusing now," Hibiki sighed and Minami nodded.

Non- Stop Debate

Truth bullet: Control Pad has been equipped

Susie: I'm telling you that Kazuichi is not the killer! I am!

Ed: That's bullsh*t! We have clear evidence that he did it!

Minami: We might have missed something so it wouldn't hurt to go back and check

Ed: Whose side are you on?!

Hibiki: Knowing Susie's recklessness, we could track something down that could either disprove or prove her innocence in this case

Isabelle: You are right but how???

Hibiki: I don't know...

Minami: I don't know either

>Looking back on previous cases, Susie is very vocal on being innocent so why speak up now?

[Truth bullet: Control Pad. Use on track something down.]

[Break!]

"Remember the control pad and how clean it was. Only something that an Ultimate Mechanic could do and not an Ultimate Axe Wielder," I noted.

"So you're using our talents for leverage in this case?! What the f*ck!" Susie shouted.

"Well that's kind of what we did with Annabeth when her murder case was going on," Ed shrugged.

"We did the same thing with Mami's trial when we were accusing you and it turned out to be that you're weren't the killer!" Susie snapped.

"Watch it," Ed said in a low voice, glaring at her.

"So Kazuichi was able to pull the control pad carefully and cleanly but something is obviously bothering me," Isabelle explained.

"How?" Mukuro asked.

"I heard and saw two people with Leafpool before her death. If Kazuichi did kill her, then was Susie with him when that happened or was it the other way around?" Isabelle asked.

"..."

Sh*t! She's right, there were two people who were with Leafpool! I'm going to guess, with what we have, that they were Kazuichi and Susie. But Monokuma told us that one person killed Leafpool...was the second person... "an accomplice?" I asked after thinking about it for a second.

"What? Are you saying that there's an accomplice involved now?" Minami asked.

"Yeah, why not?" I shrugged.

"But hold on! This throws a wrench in our discussion! Have you found something that supports your thinking about an accomplice involved?" Hibiki asked.

"With what Isabelle said before and how Kazuichi's and Susie's alibis line up, I think that an accomplice isn't too far-fetched," Ed replied.

"True," Mukuro nodded.

"F*ck all of you! You don't have any definite proof that one of us is an accomplice!" Susie shouted.

Due to her eyes being covered by her hair, I couldn't tell if she rolled her eyes or not.

"The only thing that we have even remotely close to proof is Isabelle's account. Is that enough?" Minami asked.

"If anything, they could have killed her together!" Isabelle pointed out.

"Fine...fine whatever. Let's have a Scrum Debate to settle this," I said.

I heard it!

Right on cue, I thought.

"Upupupupu~ you sure love your Scrum Debates, don't ya?" Monokuma asked.

"Let's get it over with already," Ed folded his arms.

"Agreed," Minami nodded.

"Okie dokie!" Monokuma cheered.

V.S

Is there an accomplice?

No there isn't

Minami

Susie

Hibiki

Isabelle

Yes there is

Tommy

Mukuro

Ed

Kazuichi

Scrum Debate: Start!

Susie: Kazuichi did nothing wrong!

[Ed!]

Ed: At the moment, the two of you aren't innocent

Susie: Still...I was the one who killed Leafpool, not Kazuichi!

[Mukuro!]

Mukuro: We don't have proof that you did it other than that you were with Kazuichi this whole time

Minami: So because they were together with this whole, Susie is just as guilty as Kazuichi?

[Ed!]

Ed: That's right. Kazuichi even more so though

Isabelle: You wouldn't say that they both lure Leafpool away in order to kill her?

[I Got This!]

Tommy: That's exactly what we're saying! The two of them planned this but Kazuichi was the one who actually killed her

Hibiki: But why would they kill Leafpool out of all people?

[Kazuichi!]

Kazuichi: ....................motive...

Susie: Kaz, what are you doing over there? You don't actually believe that you killed Leafpool! I was the one who killed her!

[Kazuichi!]

Kazuichi: I'm sorry...

One

Two

Three

THIS IS OUR ANSWER!

[Break!]

"Kaz...n-no," Susie looked horrified.

"I'm sorry Susie but...there's no need to defend me. I killed her, not you," Kazuichi shook his head.

"I...I refuse to believe that!" Susie shouted.

"I killed her because of the motive...I got...," Kazuichi looked down, not finishing.

"You got someone's memory? Who?" Mukuro asked.

"None of your business, b*tch!" Susie shouted.

Truth bullet selected —> Theory

I got it!

"Can I ask you two something?" I asked.

"What?!" Susie snapped.

"Was Leafpool your original target?" I asked.

Both of them stiffened up and suddenly didn't meet my eyes.

"Original target? What do you mean, Tommy?" Minami asked.

"I'm asking if I was the original target?" I responded.

"What?" Mukuro asked and I nodded.

"Yeah. They never meant to kill Leafpool. They were meant to kill me," I explained.

Non-Stop Debate: Start!

Truth bullet: Memory swapped has been equipped

Ed: So Leafpool was never meant to die? What the f*ck?

Minami: Why switch your murder target and why even target Tommy in the first place?

Susie: ...

Kazuichi: ...

Isabelle: Kazuichi mentioned something about the motive. How can the motive be involved in this?

Minami: Is it even involved? Did they kill at random?

Ed: That's ridiculous

Minami: Well I'm sor-rry

Mukuro: Please explain why would you kill Tommy before switching to Leafpool?

Susie: .........ugh.....

>There has to be a reason why they targeted me. And why they switched to Leafpool. I know there is.

[Truth bullet: Memory Swapped. Use on kill at random.]

[Break!]

"Kazuichi mentioned something about the motive during the Scrum Debate. He got someone's memory and I think I know whose memory," I explained.

"Oh! You mean the memory swap?" Hibiki asked and I nodded.

Kazuichi was just staring at the ground, stuff like a board.

"Kazuichi, who did you get?" Isabelle asked but he didn't respond.

"Well...he got me because I got his memory," I explained.

"What?! And what proof do you have that he got yours?" Susie snapped.

"Proof? Yeah I got f*cking proof!" I shouted.

Truth bullet selected —> Hibiki's memory

"And his name is Hibiki! Tell them what you told me," I exclaimed and pointed dramatically at him.

"Eh? Me? Ok, so I got Susie's memory and then during the investigation, I found my own memory. Since we all said that both Susie and Kazuichi were around the areas of the hydraulic press, it'll have to be one of them who had it," Hibiki explained.

"Exactly! That's my proof," I stated.

"So since you got Kazuichi's memory, it would only makes sense that he got yours," Mukuro said.

"Ok...but why would you think that we targeted you?" Susie asked.

"........uhhhhhh," I trailed off.

"Yeah this is getting ridiculously long so might as well lend a hand. Tommy, here. I got you," Ed nodded at me.

"Uhh sure. That's poggers, Ed," I said.

Logic Refresh

Truth bullets: Messed up Fortune Room, Mysterious note, Monokuma's forgiveness

Ed: They have a reason to change targets midway through their murder plan

Ed: Probably something found during investigation or some sh*t

Ed: And yes. It probably has to do with the motive.

Ed: Something extreme to want to kill you.

Ed: Think about it some more

Ed: They would have left something behind that we can use.

-reason to change targets
-found during investigation
-with the motive
-extreme to want to kill you
-left something behind

Truth bullet selected —>Mysterious Note

[Break!]

"Oh sh*t you're right! That note found in Leafpool's dorm!" I exclaimed.

"Oh that one! I remember now, it said something about what you have done and that you scared my friend. Something among those lines," Minami piped up.

"Now we're getting somewhere," Ed nodded.

"But why is it in Leafpool's dorm if she wasn't the original target?" Hibiki asked.

"Yeah that's been bothering me as well. Maybe she intercepted the note before it could reached me?" I suggested.

And that would explain this...

Truth bullet selected —> Leafpool's nervousness

+

Truth Bullet selected —> Leafpool's involvement

I got it!

"In her room, there are signs of Leafpool being nervous. Since we found that note in her room, she most likely intercepted it so that's why she was so nervous," I explained.

"She most likely wanted to warn you but Susie and Kazuichi figured out that she got the note instead of you and killed her to keep quiet," Ed added on.

"Seems like a plausible explanation," Minami shrugged.

Still...there's a thing that bothers me. Just what the hell was in that room? I thought.

Answer Key: B.B.C

This is It!

[Break!]

"Hey remember the messed up fortune room?" I asked.

"What does that have to do with this trial?" Susie snapped.

"I was getting there, f*cking hell," I rolled my eyes.

"Go on," Mukuro nodded at me.

"So I was wondering why that room was messed up. I think I may have an idea although it's more a guess," I explained.

"If it's a guess, then why say anything at all?" Susie asked.

"It gives us more information to think about," Mukuro explained.

"Right so why is the fortune room messed up? It's a room that is close to the hydraulic press and who has been writing the notes? I'm guessing that Susie orchestrated Leafpool's death but didn't actually killed her. Kazuichi did and he was mostly there for the ride. After all, the note in Leafpool's dorm says 'You scared my friend' not 'you scared me' or some sh*t like that. Susie must have wrote that note!" I explained.

"Now that you mention it, that language is rather odd. If Kazuichi wrote it, he might have written it differently but if Susie wrote it, it might actually makes sense," Isabelle said.

"Susie might have been the most angriest and the doer in this situation because the two of them must have seen your memory and Susie must have gotten mad at you for scaring Kazuichi, whatever your memory was," Ed added on.

"Exactly! Now we-," I started but got cut off.

"DON'T F*CKING PUT WORDS IN MY MOUTH THAT DONT BELONG!" Susie shouted.

"I told you, those were just guesses," I explained.

"You can't just waltz in and accuse me of such things. That's f*cking stupid!" She shouted.

"Uhhh that's what the class trials are all about. If we have proof, we'll need to point fingers at people. So far, we have proof that you're the accomplice and that Kazuichi is the killer," I explained.

"I told you already! I'm the culprit! Yes I wrote those notes but Kazuichi didn't kill Leafpool!" Susie shouted.

"...I guess I'm fighting you then," I muttered.

Rebuttal Showdown: Start!

Truth bullet: Threatening Note has been equipped

Susie: I keep telling you that I'm the culprit! I'm not an accomplice, if anything else, it's Kaz who's the accomplice! He doesn't deserve to die like this! I won't let you vote for him. You said it yourself. I orchestrated her death, then why wouldn't it be me to do the final blow? Tell me huuuuh?

[Advance!]

Tommy: There's not a whole lot of evidence that points to you being the killer. Could you pull off the control pad without damaging the wires? What about that empty tool box? You also said it yourself with your alibi. The two of you were together until the time of her death so it adds up.

Susie: Damn it! Kazuichi is not the culprit! How many times do I have to repeat myself? I wrote those notes, I came up with the idea, I controlled the hydraulic press, I did all of that! Kazuichi just helped me...he didn't do anything else.

>...

[Truth bullet: Threatening Note. Use on wrote those notes.]

[Break!]

"Notes? As in more than two? Nobody mentioned that...in fact, I was the only one who knew about that note in my room," I explained.

"'!" Susie looked down.

"There's no need to repeat what has already been said. Kazuichi is the culprit and that's final," I stated.

"Well true but what's this about a note in your room?" Isabelle asked.

I took the note that was in my pocket and read it out loud.

"Ah...yeah we only mentioned one note and that was in Leafpool's dorm. It seems like you wanted to settle things with Tommy at the trial but why have us vote for you if all of us except Kazuichi will die?" Mukuro asked.

"Oh...I forgot about that," Kazuichi looked down.

"Huh? What do you mean by that?" Susie asked.

Truth bullet selected —> Monokuma's Forgetfulness

I got it!

"Yeah even if there was an accomplice and we get the case wrong, only the culprit gets away with the crime. The rest of us die so I guess that there's no use being an accomplice unless you're willing to die alongside us," I replied.

"What?! No one told us that!" Susie turned her head to Monokuma violently and bared her teeth.

"Hmm? Yeah I forgot to mention that. In fact, I may or may not have mentioned that much earlier but if I didn't, then I forgot," Monokuma shrugged.

"Damn it!" Susie made a fist.

"....so we vote now?" Minami asked.

"No! I-I'm still not giving up!" Susie shouted.

"There's no use fighting about this. You're already up against a wall and you're losing," Ed shrugged.

"I don't give a f*ck! Kaz didn't...he couldn't have...," Susie muttered.

"So what is your argument? Every time you would say that, we would have something to counter that. Do you have anything that can leave us speechless?" Mukuro asked.

"Yeah like what happens whenever the trial almost comes to an end!" Hibiki added on.

I gave them both a look that said, I got this, before looking at Susie.

"So? Anything? I'm all ears," I said.

"Tch fine! I'm not going down!" Susie exclaimed.

Argument Adamant

>Kazuichi would never hurt Leafpool

>You got all of this wrong!

>I-I got proof

>I orchestrated this whole thing, Kazuichi had nothing to do with this

>You got to believe me

>Damn it!

[Break!]

>Sh*t!

>Kazuichi is innocent

>He wouldn't hurt a fly

>I would hurt a fly

>Please don't send him to his death!

>You got to believe me!

>Don't kill him!

[Break!]

>MURDERERS!

>KAZ WOULD NEVER

>DON'T VOTE FOR HIM! VOTE FOR ME!

>DON'T DO IT!

>HE HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH LEAFPOOL'S DEATH!

>F*CK YOU

>NO

>NO

>NO

>NO

>NO

>DONT TAKE MY FRIEND AWAY FROM ME!

[Break!]

Finishing Blow!

"He would never get his own hands dirty to even attempt a murder!"

>He Tried
>To Kill
>Me with
>A Wrench

IT'S THE END!

[Break!]

"Near the end of the investigation, I went back to the hydraulic press to apologize to Leafpool when behind me, I heard someone run off and when I looked behind, there was a fallen wrench. Kazuichi seemed to have tried to kill me before the trial started but guilt got the best of him so he didn't," I explained.

"Wh-what?" Susie asked.

"It's true...I tried finishing the job but I-I couldn't! Not after what I have done to Leafpool. I couldn't finish Tommy off so I ran and made the mistake in leaving the wrench behind. Don't defend me anymore, Susie. I'm the culprit," Kazuichi spoke up.

He was trembling in his podium but he then turned to me.

"Just do the last part before the voting so...we can get this over with," he stated.

".........ok," I nodded. Time to finish this...I guess.

Closing Argument

When we got our motive, the culprit got mine and showed it to Susie, the accomplice. She got upset at me and must have been forming a plan during the interaction. She and the culprit went to the culprit's dorm to discuss the plan which would involve me being under the hydraulic press.

Susie wrote down a note that would lure me to the hydraulic press while the culprit grabbed his tools to control the press since of the complications that the press had. The two of them walked to my dorm to place the note down but Leafpool was passing by and took the note to hide in her dorm.

As she hid it away, Leafpool was pacing around and shredding the leaves in her dorm nervously. However, the culprit and Susie figured out that I never saw the note and will never see it so they decided to confront Leafpool about it. She went with them, nervously but the three of them never realized that someone was watching them for a bit. That was Isabelle.

The culprit opened up the control pad and carefully made adjustments to it and they lured Leafpool under the press. It didn't work at first since her legs were first crushed but after a few adjustments that don't mess with the wiring, the pressed crushed her...killing her.

The culprit and Susie tried to cover their tracks even to the point where at the end of the investigation, the culprit tried to kill me but was overpowered with guilt that they couldn't do it.

You were the one who killed Leafpool...Kazuichi Soda, the Ultimate Mechanic.

[Break!]

"A-and that's it," I said and lowered my head.

I couldn't see what their faces were.

"We vote now," Ed stated.

"Really?! Okie dokie! It's voting time!" Monokuma exclaimed happily.

I looked at the pictures and pressed on the one that had Kazuichi.

Unlike the other last times, I actually felt confident on this. I actually was! Except that didn't mean that I liked being right.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Ok! Everyone voted so let's see if you're right! Time to spin! That! Wheeeeeeeeeel!" Monokuma cheered.
A pachinko machine appeared and he pulled the level.
The slots began to spin and spin.
Spin and spin.
Spin and spin.
It felt too long.
It was too long.
Why do I feel like Monokuma intentionally made it long for it to be long.
Eventually...
All three slots were Kazuichi's face and a horn of celebration went off.
Quarters, pounds and yens went pouring out.
Guess we won.
A/N: it is done! The trial at least.
It's been a long time, my bad! I was originally going to finish this sometime before 2023 and if I wasn't, it would be early 2023.
So I'll try to finish up the rest of the Deadly Life and Ch6 during January and February.
Ch6 is planned to be a short chapter so yeah. Maybe plausible.
