Chapter 4 Deadly Life part 5: Post Trial
"Ding ding ding! You're correct! Mami here did indeed kill Lloyd. Honestly, in a normal situation, I don't think a pop star could overpower a well trained ninja but hey, this isn't normal per se," Monokuma said.
...
"Awww are you all sad and fallen to despair yet? Well this is the end of the fourth chapter so I guess so?" Monokuma said.
"You shut your mouth!" Susie snapped.
"Mami...I know we all voted and got it right but...is it really true? Did you kill Lloyd?" Leafpool asked, softly as if she couldn't believe it.
Mami nodded but she didn't meet anyone's eyes.
"Ed, I have a question to ask you," Mukuro turned to Ed.
Ed rose an eyebrow at this.
"Why was Mami's note in your pocket? She had her reason to kill and you had it but when we were discussing why after the Scrum Debate, you said that you didn't think that she had a reason to kill. But you had the note with you. So why?" Mukuro asked.
"..."
Ed didn't immediately respond.
It took him a few seconds before taking a deep breath.
"Because I knew it was her or at least I had a suspicion," he explained.
"Huh? What do you mean a suspicion?" Isabelle asked.
"She had my notes but I had no idea that she was going to kill with them if I didn't walk in on her preparing the circle. She handed me the note and I placed it in my pocket. We walked out but I didn't know about the cats. When we found Lloyd dead, I suspected that it was her...only I didn't want to believe it," Ed explained.
"So you knew this whole time but you made yourself suspicious so we wouldn't vote on Mami?" Hibiki asked.
"You do realize that we all would have died except for her if we voted for you," Kazuichi said.
"Shut up! I know that...it's just that...it's not fair for her to be here! It wasn't fair for anyone else who died and it's not fair for us either!" Ed shouted.
...
...
"Ed...," I murmured.
Guess I'm not the only one who thinks that this isn't fair.
Damn you Monokuma!
No...
Damn you whoever is behind Monokuma!
"Not fair? Upupupu~ but that's just real life! I'm only speeding up the process!" Monokuma explained.
"Speeding up the process my a*s! This is a sick and twisted game! I don't care for what reason we are here for! We should not be here!" Ed snapped.
"Oddly enough, I agree with him. We shouldn't be here. We should be out there, alive with our loved ones," Leafpool added on.
"Boohoo! Go cry me a river! You're all stuck here whether you like it or not!" Monokuma snapped.
"YOU LITTLE-!" Ed shouted but got interrupted by Mami.
"Stop it! Please don't fight!" She shouted.
Everyone went quiet.
...
"I want you all to get along. Please don't kill no more. Don't follow my example. Live! Live and defeat this game. Defeat him!" Mami explained and pointed to Monokuma.
...
"I know I'm close to death but I want you all to know that...don't give up! Cling onto hope and don't fall into despair. That is his goal, isn't it? To make us fall into despair? Please don't do that! Don't make him win!" Mami urged.
"..."
"She...she's right. If we fall into despair, he wins. We can't give up on hope. That's all we need to survive and defeat Monokuma," Mukuro agreed.
"Yeah!" Isabelle nodded.
"That's enough! Are ya all done with your goodbyes?" Monokuma snapped.
"Shut the f*ck up," I muttered.
"But where did those cats go and where did they come from?" Hibiki asked.
"Oh they're right there!" Mami pointed.
The two small cats ran to Mami and began to meow at her. It was like they were scolding her.
"I know, I know. It was a bad idea. Please don't be sad when I go," Mami said.
"It's not fair you know! You can't go yet! Who will take care of us? What about Pino Pino? Toshio? Your parents? This isn't fair!" One of the cats wailed.
I wasn't too surprised when I heard them talk. I mean I'm literally friends with a talking cat (Leafpool).
"It's ok. I'll be ok," Mami assured them.
"But you're going to die! It's not ok," the other cat wailed.
"I know. But there are nice people who can take care of you. Just don't forget me," she said, her voice almost shaking.
Mami turned to Monokuma.
"I'm...I'm ready," she said.
"Okie dokie!" Monokuma cheered.
"Everyone...please don't forget about me," Mami gave us a small sad smile.
"IIIIIIIIIIIT'S PUNISHMENT TIME!" Monokuma yelled happily.
