Chapter 4 Deadly Life part 3: Trial

At long last, we were finally at the trial room.

Monokuma was sitting upon his little throne, grinning.

Wait, was it just me or did he look more paler than usual?

It's probably just me...

(This was made by N3o_xd0 They are also the same person who made the Eclipse and COLLIDE edits on YT but under a different user. Go give them a follow. I made a small edit with Lloyd since no one knew he would be the next one to die.)

[*insert Monokuma explaining da rules. You know the drill]

As usual, I looked to see that there were new portraits.

Annabeth's

And then Lloyd's

"Crap, where should we start?" Kazuichi asked.

"We need to start with the elephant in the room. What's up with Lloyd's body? It's all mangled up, you could hardly tell it's him," Isabelle explained.

"Plus we don't know the murder weapon," Hibiki added on.

"..."

I glanced at Ed, who wasn't speaking.

Guess I have to be the one who says the murder weapon, I thought with a sigh.

Non-Stop Debate: Start!

Truth Bullet: The Usage of Alchemy has been equipped

Isabelle: His whole body was mangled up! How can we tell how he died

Kazuichi: His death is something that I haven't seen before

Mukuro: So you have seen something like this before?

Kazuichi: ...

Leafpool: Enough of that, let's focus on the task at hand

Susie: Right, how the f*ck did he die?

Isabelle: I don't know! We don't know what we're dealing with?!

Hibiki: Hey hey, let's not panic! Let's just try to calm down

Kazuichi: How the hell are we supposed to calm down when we saw a dead body this mangled up!

>We sure get sidetracked a lot. We have to bring the focus back on what killed Lloyd.

[Truth Bullet: The Usage of Alchemy. Use on don't know what we're dealing with.]

[Break!]

"Hold on! I remember Monokuma grumbling something about using alchemy. I think it's possible that alchemy is what killed Lloyd," I explained.

"Wait when did Monokuma say that?" Mami asked.

"After the stage crumbled and we saw those lights," I replied.

"Then we must have found our culprit!" Minami piped up.

"Really?" Mami asked.

"Him," Minami pointed to Ed.

"What, me?" Ed asked.

"You're the Ultimate Alchemist! Lloyd was killed by using alchemy. You're the only one who fits," Minami explained.

"I...I guess that makes sense," Kazuichi said, scratching his cheek.

"And that's that! Wow this is the fastest class trial ever," Minami said.

"But Ed can't be the culprit! It's too obvious!" Mami pointed out.

"I agree with her. We have to continue discussing to make sure we got all of our facts right," Mukuro said.

I nodded at this.

Non-Stop Debate: Start!

Truth bullet: People who left the party has been equipped

Mami: It would be far too obvious for Ed to be the culprit! We have to dig deeper into this

Minami: But how can we dig deeper if we got one major clue?

Kazuichi: We could narrow it down so that way we can at least see who can't be the culprit

Isabelle: That is true but how can we

Minami: I still think Ed is the culprit

Ed: ...

Hibiki: Umm Ed...this isn't true...is it

Ed: ...

>I think I know how we can find the culprit. Maybe it can prove either Ed's innocence or that he's the culprit. Only if the clues match up that is

[Truth bullet: People who left the party. Use on narrow it down.]

[Break!]

"Kazuichi is on the right path. We can narrow suspects down. Some of us left the party, one of them has to be the culprit," I explained.

"Well, who are those people?" Leafpool asked.

"I think it's Mami, Minami, Leafpool, Lloyd, Ed, Isabelle and I," I explained.

"So those are the most suspicious?" Susie asked.

"However, I have a feeling that we can figure it out more. And it's because of this!" I replied.

Truth bullet selected —>Monokuma File 5

I got it!

"Lloyd died at 9:59, almost 10. So anyone who left close to that time, couldn't have done it. Or anyone who left around the same time as Lloyd did because he was still alive at the time," I explained.

"So Isabelle was the last person to leave and return. She returned really quickly though. You left around the same time as Lloyd and returned before him. He left again though," Mami explained.

"So Isabelle and Tommy are no longer suspects but what about everyone else?" Kazuichi asked.

"I think we can cross Leafpool off since alchemy is mainly used by human hands," Ed muttered.

"Right. Ed, you're still on the suspects list," Leafpool said.

"I think I was right in suspecting him," Minami said, proudly.

"But he can't. It would still be too obvious," Mami said.

"Ok so I think we should discuss more about Ed to see if he still matches up," I suggested.

"Ok," Mami nodded.

Non-Stop Debate: Start!

Truth bullet: Ed's notes has been equipped

Mukuro: While it would be too obvious for Ed to be the culprit, there isn't anything wrong to suspect him unless we have evidence to contradict him

Kazuichi: True, that's very true

Susie: But we also have evidence that supports that he is the culprit

Mami: We do? I know Ed is the Ultimate Alchemist but would he have something that can kill?

Minami: Might as well

Leafpool: While Ed doesn't strike me to be the type of person to kill, he could pull that expectation right on its head

Ed: ...

Susie: Now that's true!

>I'm not sure whether I should find evidence to see if Ed is innocent or not but by the way, he's acting...kind of hard to defend him

[Truth Bullet: Ed's notes. Use on would he have something that can kill.]

[Break!]

"Ed, didn't you say that you had notes. Notes about alchemy?" I asked.

"How did you know about that?" Ed asked.

"Oh, after your conversation with Lloyd," I replied.

"What conversation?" Ed asked.

Truth bullet selected —>My account

This should prove it!

"I overheard you having this conversation with Lloyd during the party. I can only assume that this was before his death. Something about using your notes to kill. I reckon that they had to do something with alchemy," I explained.

"So that's what you mean during the investigation!" Kazuichi said.

"Yep! That the blood would be on your hands either directly or indirectly," I stopped to stare at Ed, "does that sound familiar, mate?"

Ed looked down.

"So we really found our killer? Yeah, I agree with Minami. That was fast," Isabelle said.

"Now that's a possibili-," I said but got interrupted.

"Crap," I muttered.

"It would be too obvious for Ed to be the killer. We can't vote on him yet! We need more evidence," Mami explained.

"We...don't have enough evidence?" I asked.

Now something doesn't seem right, I thought.

Rebuttal Showdown: Start!

Truth blade: Monokuma's Hint has been equipped

Mami: Yes it would be too obvious! We don't have enough evidence to pinpoint Ed being the killer! We must have missed something! He just can't be!

[Advance!]

Tommy: If you really want us to backtrack on the evidence, you could have just said so instead of rebuttaling me. Ed is the only one out of all of us who knows how to use alchemy. So show me proof that it wasn't him

Mami: I was getting to that. The secret passage that Monokuma opened up for the killer. Do you really think that Monokuma would be that nice to open an opportunity for a kill? It's not that Monokuma would be that helpful and do you think Ed would really conspired with him?

>Well Monokuma is the one who wants us to kill one another. I wouldn't put it pass him to do such a thing but he also gave out a crucial detail albeit it's very vague. But how can I show it to her?

[Truth Blade: Monokuma's Hint. Use on not that Monokuma would be that helpful.]

[Break!]

"If Monokuma wasn't so helpful, then why this hint? I'll let you all decide whether this is helpful or not," I said.

"What hint?" Mami asked.

"Oooh! Are you using that hint I told you? That's brilliant Tomathy! I knew giving that hint to you would be the right call," Monokuma clapped his paws.

"Don't call me that," I grumbled.

"So what's the hint?" Mukuro asked.

"Small. Yeah that's literally the hint. All he said was small. Like I said, I'll let you decide whether that's helpful or not," I said.

"I mean Ed isn't the tallest person here," Kazuichi said.

"Yeah, I think out of all of the humans in this room, he's the shortest!" Susie laughed.

"SHUT THE HELL UP! I'M NOT JUST SOME RUNT THAT CAN'T DO SH*T!!" Ed yelled.

"But I didn't say that though," Susie said.

"Regardless, this can also apply to Isabelle and Leafpool but we already crossed Leafpool off the suspect list due to alchemy is mainly used by humans," Mukuro explained.

"But I think we can also cross Isabelle off the list because she was with me! We were in my room, discussing on how to get out of here and ranting about stuff," Minami said.

"But aren't you also on the suspect list?" Hibiki asked.

"Well considering that alchemy was used as the murder weapon, do you think I can accomplish such a difficult task?" Minami asked.

"So we got our suspect? Ed, right?" Isabelle asked.

"I think we do!" Susie exclaimed.

"..."

Ed was still not saying anything.

No, something is wrong. Very wrong.

Ed is very loud and not afraid to throw words at others.

So he should be denying that he is the culprit, that's what everyone else did and he saw what happens if you get caught.

So why is he being silent right now?

"Hey wait a minute. Can we discuss this a little further? Something doesn't sit right with me," I spoke up.

"Huh? Wait Tommy, weren't you persistent about Ed being the culprit? Why are you second doubting now?" Susie asked.

"Like I said, something doesn't sit right with me. We need to discuss more. Maybe if we spread out all the evidence, we can find something new that disproves or proves that Ed's the culprit," I explained.

I think it's the best thing that we can do right now.

Non-Stop Debate: Start!

Truth bullet: Ed's Theory has been equipped

Minami: So wait we're backtracking? I thought we already got the culprit?

Hibiki: Well Tommy doesn't seem to be so sure right now especially when he brought up evidence that shows that Ed's the culprit

Mukuro: We must have missed something. Something about alchemy that we don't know about

Isabelle: We don't even know that much alchemy! I never even heard of alchemy that kills people

Kazuichi: Yeah I heard that alchemy is mainly used to make gold

Ed: .......it's illegal to make gold where I'm from........

Minami: So now you're speaking up

Ed: ...

>Wait...what was that again? I heard something but I need to re-hear this! Hold on...

[Truth Bullet: Ed's Theory. Use on alchemy that we don't know about.]

[Break!]

"We don't know much about alchemy but Ed does. But what he said about it during the investigation was really interesting. Ed, can you tell them what you said during the investigation?" I asked.

"..........sure......," Ed took a deep breath.

"I...have a theory. The alchemy used to kill Lloyd...it was human transmutation," he explained.

"Uhhh, what's that?" Minami asked.

"It's a form of alchemy. A way to bring back the dead," Ed replied.

!

"Bring back the dead?? WHAT?!" Hibiki yelped.

"So this whole time, there was a way to bring people back to life?" Susie asked.

"No! I should have not said that! Don't try human transmutation!" Ed shouted, his eyes filled with horror.

"Why not?" Kazuichi asked.

"..."

"I think I know why. Ed said something about this during the investigation as well," I said.

"Really? Well what is it?" Isabelle asked.

I think it was...

"I remember Ed saying something about a taboo," I started.

"Umm what's a taboo?" Mami asked.

How old is she again? I wondered as a red vein appeared near by chin, annoyed that I got interrupted.

"Taboo, in short, is something that you should never do. There will be consequences for the things that are considered taboo," Leafpool explained.

"Yeah basically human transmutation is taboo. Something tells me that you knew about this and said nothing to us while investigating," I said.

"..."

"So...what happened Ed? Why is that subject so touchy?" Susie asked.

"..."

"Guys, it's clear that he's not comfortable with it. Let him be," Leafpool said.

"Sorry mate," I said.

Mate...that's an interesting word..., I thought before feeling a prick of pain in my head.

"Nngh...,"

"Tommy, are you ok?" Mukuro asked.

"Yeah I'm fine," I assured her.

"Fine, I'll admit it," Ed said.

"Huh? Admit what?" Minami asked.

Ed held up his right hand.

"I'll show you why you shouldn't attempt human transmutation. And why I lied," he said.

"You lied? Since when?" Kazuichi asked.

"When we got our motives and bits of our memories. I lied about my memory, I didn't actually remember my brother. I remember him since I got here so I had no reason to remember him again. I actually got my memory...of my mother," Ed explained.

"What's so bad about your mother?" Leafpool asked.

"It's not about her. ... It's about what I have done," Ed replied.

Now that I think about it, Ed always wears those white gloves. Never removes them. Other than his left one.

His left looks like a regular human hand.

His right on the other hand...

Ed removed the glove off of his right hand and what was underneath...shocked us.

(Take this drawing in a grain of salt. I can't draw auto mail arms)

"Is that...metal?" Mami asked.

"My whole right arm and left leg are gone and have been replaced by auto mail. All because of human transmutation," Ed explained.

"Full Metal huh? Now I see why that's your title," Mukuro said.

"Wait wait wait! Does that mean you have attempted human transmutation before you got here? Was it your mom?" Kazuichi asked.

Ed nodded.

"If Ed knew the risks about human transmutation, then he can't be the culprit! He already risked his life, a whole arm and leg!" Leafpool asked.

"Gives a whole 'nother meaning to cost an arm and a leg," Susie scoffed.

"Shut up!" Ed snapped.

"So regardless of the previous clues, this small crucial detail disproves Ed being the culprit. We're back to square one. Man that sucks!" Hibiki complained.

"Let's continue to discuss this case. It's possible that there's something that can lead us on the right path!" Leafpool said.

Non-Stop Debate: Start!

Truth bullet: The Disappearance of Ed's notes has been equipped

Minami: So Ed wasn't the culprit. My mistake

Hibiki: You sure move on quickly

Minami: Yeah it's my bad!

Leafpool: So Ed wasn't the culprit after all but there's still something that bothers me

Ed: Are you talking about that the fact that I'm the only one who knows alchemy

Leafpool: Yes, exactly that!

Susie: Well someone else knows! Maybe you taught them beforehand

Ed: If I did, you would have noticed

Susie: What do you mean by that?

Ed: Nothing, moving on

Susie: What do you mean, you short squirt!

Ed: SHORT SQUIRT!!

>Ed sure has a temper whenever someone mentions his height. But moving on, how did someone used alchemy when Ed's the only one who knows how to use it?

[Truth Bullet: The Disappearance of Ed's notes. Use on you taught them.]

[Break!]

"Gonna have to disagree with that. Ed doesn't have his notes with him, someone else did. I reckon that they read through his notes and learned the secrets behind human transmutation," I suggested.

"Wait, Ed doesn't have his notes? Huh?" Kazuichi looked confused.

"I did tell him that I gave mine to someone earlier," Ed muttered.

"So they must be the culprit! Hey Ed, who did you give your notes too?" Hibiki asked.

"Tch!"

"Oh...," Hibiki trailed off.

I racked my brain for that information. When did Ed say that he gave his notes to someone?

Think Tommy! Think! You're a big man! You should be able to remember such a simple detail! I thought.

Then...it hit me.

I know who it was.

They were right there next to him when Ed said that he gave his notes away.

It was...

Her!

"N-no...no it can't be...," I said.

"Tommy, are you alright?" Minami asked.

"Do I look alright to you?" I snapped.

"Geez no need to be rude," Minami rolled her eyes.

"You already figured it out! Awesome!" Susie cheered.

"No it's not f*cking awesome!" I snapped.

"Tommy...can you tell us who did it? Who had Ed's notes?" Leafpool asked, kindly.

My hands shook on the podium and I removed one to look at it.

I couldn't stop shaking.

"Just tell us who the b*sterd is!" Susie snapped.

"...fine! Don't get mad at me when I reveal the truth," I said.

A/N: sometimes I feel like a genius. Why do I feel like this is my most complicated trial that I have ever written?

It's probably not but it feels like it!

Kids gonna die tonight! (Or whenever I write the next part!)

Also I guess the whole auto mail arm plot twist wouldn't be one if anyone here read or watched Full Metal Alchemist. It's literally in the first episode (both the 2003 one and Brotherhood.)
