Chapter 3 Deadly Life part 4: Trial

"Bits of evidence all point to Susie but not all of them do," Leafpool said.

"What the hell does that mean? You're not thinking that I'm the culprit!" Susie yelled.

"Chill! She said not all of them point to you. Leafpool isn't accusing you or anything!" I snapped.

"Tch," Susie turned away.

"So what else can we talk about?" Isabelle asked.

"Well let's talk about Papyrus more. Since his whole body is gone and, according to Susie, was turned to dust. I think we need to discuss how it would have happened," Mami replied.

"Good idea," Lloyd nodded.

Non-Stop Debate: Start!

Truth bullet: Kazuichi's theory has been equipped.

Ed: So his whole body is gone, minus his head right?

Hibiki: Yeah there was a lot of dust everywhere as well! Even inside of the bowl!

Susie: What was in the bowl again? I can't remember

Annabeth: Funny how you say that you don't remember

Susie: Shut up!

Mukuro: Wasn't he making spaghetti?

Lloyd: Do you think someone targeted him from behind?

Ed: That's a cheap move especially towards someone who was defenseless

Leafpool: Then again, the culprit did kill two people while the other two just killed one

Mami: I don't think anyone should kill anyone

Isabelle: So you're trying to say no deaths from now on?

Mami: yeah

>How did Papyrus die? His whole body is gone so we can't check for an autopsy on it. But I think I remember seeing something on his File...

[Truth bullet: Kazuichi's theory. Use on someone targeted him from behind.]

[Break!]

"That must be it!" I blurted out.

"What must be it?" Lloyd asked.

"What you just said. Someone must have targeted him from behind. Also according to his File, his death blow must have been around his neck. So it's a possibility...no it's more than possible that Papyrus was making spaghetti and the culprit crept up from behind him and hit him on his neck with a weapon and killed him," I explained.

"It may be possible that the weapon that killed Noya was the same one that was used to kill Papyrus," Mukuro added.

"How can we be so sure on that?" Annabeth asked.

Truth bullet selected —> Dust on Dagger

I got it!

"Mukuro, didn't you find something interesting on the dagger?" I asked.

"Hmm? Yeah," Mukuro unsheathed the dagger to show us.

It was still covered in blood.

"As you can see, really carefully, there are specks of dust on the dagger. On Noya's body, there's isn't any specks of dust but if this is the same dagger that killed Papyrus, then it's more than likely that's where it comes from," Mukuro explained.

"That actually makes a lot of sense," Mami said.

"So both Papyrus and Noya died to the same weapon. Only that Papyrus was killed on the back of his neck and Noya, the front," Lloyd noted.

"There is one problem though. We are no where close in finding who the culprit is," Minami pointed out.

"She's right. We have to narrow it down and know for sure who did it," Leafpool said.

"Look the one who is the closest suspect we got is Susie. Why don't we just end this now?" Annabeth suggested.

"Huh? What do you mean?" Susie asked.

"No one else has more holes in their story than you. So the person who killed poor Papyrus and Noya has to be you," she pointed to her.

"I...," Susie was speechless and shrank a bit at Annabeth's glare.

"Well who else could have done it?" Hibiki asked.

"That's unfortunately true," Lloyd nodded.

"How long as this trial been droned out?" Mukuro asked as she put the dagger away.

Kazuichi and Susie glanced at each other.

There was flicker of fear between them that I could have swore that I would have hallucinated it.

"Now hold on! No way in Starclan that Susie could have done it! If that were the case, then she wouldn't have targeted Papyrus due to her knowledge of him dying would cause dust!" Leafpool yowled.

"B-but I mean I could have not know about it since I read it in a book," Susie muttered.

"I still think that we're no where close in finding the culprit," Minami pointed out.

"But what else can we do? Susie fits the pieces of the puzzle, right?" Annabeth asked.

Some people seemed to agree with this.

"But this isn't right! Susie couldn't have done it," Mami exclaimed.

"We can't vote now! This can't end!" Isabelle cried.

"What do you gain from this Annabeth?" I suddenly asked.

"Huh? What do you mean? I want this trial to be done and over with," Annabeth explained.

"But not like this? If we get this wrong, then we all die except the culprit. Heh it's almost like you want that to happen," I joked.

"..."

"..."

"Wait a minute," I said.

SLAM!

Annabeth slammed her hand on her podium.

"I want the killer to be brought down with justice...that's all," she said.

Something is wrong. We can't end this now, we have to continue discussing, I thought.

"So are we split again?" Annabeth asked, nervously.

I heard it!

"Upupupu~ well said wise girl! I see that you're all divided on ending the trial now. You know what that means!" Monokuma cheered.

"Uggghhh let me guess. Scrum Debate time?" Ed asked.

"You got it mister!" Monokuma said.

Here we go again, I thought.

V.S.

Should we vote now?

We should

Ed

Annabeth

Kazuichi

Susie

Mukuro

Lloyd

Hibiki

We shouldn't

Tommy

Minami

Mami

Leafpool

Isabelle

Scrum Debate: Start!

Ed: Now if this is wrong, I'll kill the actual culprit with my bare hands!

[Minami!]

Minami: Then why are you even over there, dumba*s!?

Susie: Guys, let's not drag this f*cking trial longer than it needs to be.

[Leafpool!]

Leafpool: Susie, listen. This needs to be dragged out. I know it in my heart that you are innocent

Annabeth: She is the only one who doesn't have a solid alibi!

[Minami!]

Minami: The ones who were in the play are the only ones who have a solid alibi. It must be someone from the audience

Lloyd: But Susie is also from the audience. She is suspicious either way

[Mami!]

Mami: Maybe not so. Because remember what Kazuichi said!

Kazuichi: But how do you all know that I'm not lying about what I said

[Isabelle!]

Isabelle: You didn't sound like you were lying when you told us your part of the story

Mukuro: To vote or to not vote. We're wasting time discussing an obvious issue

[I got this!]

Tommy: It's not that obvious if you think about it. Without Susie or Kazuichi, we might have not known what happened to Papyrus. Why would Susie, the supposed culprit, help us that much?

Annabeth: Come on! Let's just vote already!

[Leafpool!]

Leafpool: You're awfully pushy on this. Also you hesitated in answering Tommy when he suggested that you want us to vote wrong

THIS IS OUR ANSWER!

[Break!]

"!"

Annabeth was eerily quiet at this.

"I think I was right in suggesting that," Leafpool snarled, lashing her tail slowly.

"But something may not add up with Annabeth then. At what point would Annabeth be our culprit?" Lloyd asked.

"I may think that I have an idea. Hey Tommy, since Lloyd and Annabeth helped you with the last two trials, can I help you too?" Mami asked.

"Sure," I said.

What's Mami thinking? I wondered.

Logic Refresh

Truth bullets: Axe head, Ripped scarf, Susie's account

Mami: Well we know that Susie isn't the culprit

Mami: Maybe she has one final clue that can help us figure this out!

Mami: I refuse to die yet! So we have to give it our all to solve this with Susie's help!

Mami: Maybe she saw something, anything?

Mami: We can't let anyone innocent die!

Mami: It's not Susie's fault! It's not!

-isn't the culprit
-one final clue
-Susie's help
-saw something
-not Susie's fault

Truth bullet selected —>Susie's account

[Break!]

"I understand what you're saying. Hey Susie, remember what you told me when you came back from the bathroom? About you seeing someone?" I asked.

"I-Umm maybe?" Susie shrugged.

"You said that you couldn't see who it was but you probably saw at least something. A mop of hair, shoes, clothes, anything?" I asked.

"Possibly," Susie began to fiddle around with her fingers.

"Stop f*cking around the bush and tell us," Ed snapped.

"Oi p*sshead! Stop yelling and let her speak!" I shouted.

"Oh look who's talking, b*stard!" Ed yelled back.

"The f*ck did you say!" I yelled.

"Starclan, give me strength," I heard Leafpool mutter.

"Ok fine! I saw blonde hair leaving the bathroom. Tommy, Ed and Lloyd were at the play and there is no one else with blonde hair left. Other than Annabeth. There I said it!" Susie exclaimed.

...

Total shock surrounded the trial room after she said this.

I mean, I suspected as much when she hesitated to respond to my joking remark but still...

Quite a shock, innit?

"I...I...Well I mean-...just that-," Annabeth tried to speak but she couldn't even say one sentence without breaking off, muttering nonsense.

"It was you. You killed Papyrus and Noya, how dare you!" Mukuro shouted.

"But I did-...," Annabeth again, tried to speak but couldn't.

"And she even tried to frame Susie for it," Ed said, shaking his head in disappointment.

"..."

"But why would Kazuichi go along with it? Aren't you and Susie friends?" Isabelle asked.

Kazuichi said nothing and Susie was quiet alongside with him.

That does bring up a good point. Why would Kazuichi go along with it? Was it the motive or something? ...actually..., I thought.

[B. Yes]

C. Bruuuh

[Good!]

Answer key: BCB

This is it!

[Break!]

"Hey Kazuichi. Did you, alongside Susie, actually knew that Annabeth is the culprit?" I asked.

"Umm...," Kazuichi hummed as he thought.

"Yep!" He pulled his beanie down to where his eyes were peeking out like a hermit crab.

"WHAT?! Why didn't you tell us?" Ed snapped.

"Hey hey, you try telling people when Ms. 'Wise girl' here has threatened you to keep quiet!" Kazuichi suddenly shouted.

He immediately slapped his hand over his mouth after he said that.

"You...threatened him!" Leafpool's claws dug onto the podium.

"Hey! The podium is not a scratching pole for cats!" Monokuma snapped.

"Stay out of this!" Minami shouted.

"So what if I did? If he blabbed on how I killed a skeleton and then later Nishinoya, I would have been caught much earlier on!" Annabeth snapped.

"And don't get me started on Susie!" She said.

"So you really did want us dead? If we had voted for Susie then you would have won. Why? Why would you do that to us?" Isabelle asked.

"It's obvious! I would have lost my wisdom forever if I didn't act!" Annabeth said.

"Right, the motive. We (most of us anyway) lost something due to the motive. And you lost your wisdom?" Lloyd asked.

"Yes! My wisdom is very important to me! I can't risk losing it!" Annabeth exclaimed.

"It's that important to you that you would kill TWO people over it?" I asked, making a fist.

"With my wisdom, I can change the world. I can mold architectures to my desire. I want to make something like the Parthenon or the Stature of Liberty. Something that will last for centuries! I will change the very world as we know it!" Annabeth exclaimed.

"That's bold of you. Even hubris of you," Mukuro noted.

"Did you...just say...hubris?" Annabeth asked, her pupils becoming smaller which gave her an insane look in her eyes.

Mukuro appeared to know that she stepped in dangerous territory so she said nothing else.

"Look, this has been dragged on far enough. We have the right culprit so now let's actually v-," I started but got cut off.

"Not again!" I cried.

"It's not over until I say it is! No one will be leaving here!" Annabeth snapped.

"So...I have to battle you too?" I asked, uncertainty.

"Care to hear me out?" Annabeth tilted her head sideways.

Not like I have a choice, I thought, hugging myself nervously.

[Rebuttal Showdown: Start!]

Truth blade: Ripped scarf has been equipped.

Annabeth: It's stupid to continue this conversation! You're not thinking clearly when I have been accused. In fact, no here has a clear head on what's going on! I. Am. Not. THE DAMN CULPRIT!

[Advance!]

Tommy: We are thinking clearly. In fact, I think we're thinking clearer than we were when Susie was being accused. You're the only one who is stubborn enough to drag this trial longer than it should be now that we have the real culprit. Now there is no need for it.

Annabeth: So let's put it this way. I would have had to attack Papyrus defenseless but why would I kill Nishinoya? I would have settled on just him would I? Unless I was going to try something that didn't work, I would have no reason to kill him. You better not come up with some lame excuse!

>Actually...why would she kill Noya? Killing Papyrus would be enough for her so why the double death? Maybe...

[Truth blade: Ripped scarf. Use on to try something.]

[Break!]

"That's wrong! Remember how we found a piece of Papyrus' scarf near Noya's body. Well on Papyrus' decaying body, his scarf is ripped like someone tear a piece of it off," I explained.

"I think I get what you're trying to say. You're saying that Annabeth was trying to frame Noya first before killing him?" Hibiki asked.

"That's exactly it!" I replied.

"But then something went wrong and she was forced to kill him. Maybe he saw her with the dagger?" Mukuro suggested.

"Now that's a possibility. If Annabeth wanted a difficult trial for us to solve then she would just stick with killing Papyrus," Isabelle explained.

"Hey! Don't talk like I'm not here!" Annabeth snapped.

"Well excuse me! We're discussing here," I snapped.

"So she killed Noya and then later tried to frame Susie. Seems like a last minute decision or not...," Lloyd trailed off.

"Well she looooves to brag about how smart she is so she could have had a backup plan in case her plan of framing Noya didn't work. She is called the 'Ultimate Strategist' after all," Ed said, folding his arms.

"No no no no NO!" Annabeth suddenly shouted.

"Frame Noya! Plan gone wrong? Backup plan? All lies! All of you are liars!" She screamed.

I winced at her voice. I know I have a loud voice myself but even then, my ears are a bit sensitive to loud noises.

"Damn you. I'll prove it to you about your plan," I grumbled.

It seems to me that I'm always the voice of reason when someone is being stubborn in admitting to their crime.

I only felt legitimately bad when I had to battle Ash.

"Go for it," Annabeth gritted her teeth together.

Argument Adamant

>Listen to yourself!

>Nobody here is thinking clearly!

>What plan? I didn't have any plan

>That's just a lie!

>It's stupid to think of me as the culprit

>It has to be Susie!

>Susie is the culprit and not me!

[Break!]

>No!

>This can't be happening

>I swear by Athena, I will win this game!

>Stay out of my f*cking way!

>False!

>You're wrong! Everyone is wrong!

>Can't be me

>You're overthinking this too much

>You're just lying, thinking that I had a plan

[Break!]

>NO!

>You lie!

>Liar!

>Liar!

>Liar!

>Liar!

>Liar

>Liar

>Liar

>Liar

>Liar

>Liar

>Liar

>Liar

>Liar

>LIAR!

[Break]

Finishing Blow!

"What makes you even think that I even had a backup plan in case my supposed first plan would fail?"

>Axe head
>Found
>Near
>Noya's
>Body

IT'S THE END!

[Break!]

"If your plan on framing Noya didn't work and you had to kill him, then you would have to resort in framing someone else. Framing someone who could fit the pieces of the puzzles but not all of them," I explained.

"So she hid the axe head that I found in order for us to put suspicion on Susie. But she was careless enough to leave the actual murder weapon behind and hide it in an obvious place which was the beanie," Ed added on.

"Yeah, that's pretty careless for someone who is called the 'Ultimate Strategist'" Lloyd said.

"So that's it?" Isabelle asked.

"That's it? What do you mean, that's it? Like I said, it's not over until I say it is," Annabeth snapped.

"All of you are liars! I-," Annabeth tried but got cut off by me.

"Oh shut up already! It's no use fighting anymore. It's already over for you, so just give up," I said.

"Now hold o-," Annabeth again tried to say something but she trailed off.

"Hey look. I'll repeat the events that happened in order for you to listen clearly and carefully," I sighed.

Got to get to the finale now, I thought.

Closing Argument

Minami decided to bring up the idea of the play after we all got our motives. Whether the culprit was planning a death before the play was officially announced is up in the air for speculation. However, the play would be a perfect opportunity for the culprit to kill someone while no one was around.

The day of the play arrived and a few of us were in the audience, watching the rest of us. Which includes the culprit in the audience. I placed a clipboard down so when people leave to do something like going to the bathroom, they would place their name down and the time that they left and time that they came back.

Sometime during the play, Papyrus left the theater to make spaghetti. The culprit took this as an opportunity to go and kill him but they couldn't immediately leave as it would raise some suspicion. So they went to the bathroom to stall for some time. However, they didn't count on Susie coming in later on as the culprit left. Or maybe they did.

The culprit had a dagger in hand and attacked Papyrus from behind, killing him. Papyrus' body got turned to dust, with only his head left in the spaghetti bowl. The culprit ripped off a piece of his scarf and somehow before returning to the theater, got a hold of an axe head in order to frame Susie in case their first plan doesn't go well.

Meanwhile, during the end of the play, Noya overheard something. It's possible that he heard the culprit coming in and wanted to check it out so he told Mukuro to go on without him. Noya must have spotted the dagger on the culprit's hand and question it. However, the culprit couldn't risk being seen with a weapon so they attacked Noya before slashing his neck. The culprit probably got the laundry cord from the costume room after the people in the play left.

Using that, the culprit wrapped Noya's wrists onto a piece of board that resembled a cross. They couldn't find a fast place to find the dagger so they hid it in the beanie that came with the Soot costume. They hurried back to their seat where Kazuichi noticed something off about the culprit. The culprit threatened him to keep quiet and so he did.

If it wasn't for Susie and Kazuichi's confession, we might have never find the real culprit.

Thank goodness that we did find the real culprit. That being Annabeth, the Ultimate Strategist.

[Break!]

"And that's that. Damn I talked a lot," I sighed.

"I heard a lot of maybes and possibly's, in your closing argument," Ed noted.

"Well what the hell was I supposed to do. Say, I don't know how so I'll just take an educated guess. It's not like I was speaking out of my arse!" I snapped.

"So...can we actually vote now?" Minami asked.

"I think we can," Mukuro turned to Monokuma.

"Hmmm? Oh fine. Finally you all stopped talking," Monokuma said.

Screens appeared in front of us and I pressed on Annabeth's picture.

Please tell me that we got this right, I thought, hugging myself nervously.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Oooh! What's it gonna be! Who will I have the pleasure of executing?" Monokuma giggled.
A pachinko machine appeared in front of him and he pulled the level down.
Slots were spinning and spinning.
As they were spinning, time seemed to slow down for me. Air getting cold and heavier.
Eventually...
The three slots were of Annabeth's face and a horn of celebration went off.
Heaps of pounds, quarters and yen came pouring out of the machine.
We were right after all.
Class Trial: End!
A/N: yay we done! Hurray!
Just maybe three more chapters to go before Chapter 3 officially ends and I can start Chapter 4.
So yeah, did you guess right? I wonder what else there is in store for DR: Eclipse.
