Chapter 15

Disclaimer: This chapter contains scenes of massacres.

One week later

I've been enjoying the last days to my fullest. I knew there was no future for me. Burning the institute down was my job, the clave did not have a right to suppress me. I was willing to fight, willing to die, for what I want.

I once again remembered the moment I last saw my mum, my dad, Korey. Jace told me about being Parabatai with Alec. Korey more or less would have been mine.

He was more than only my brother. He was my best friend, my partner in crime, the light in my dark days.

Growing up was not easy for me. My parents had barely time because they needed to gain money in order to start a new life in Hungary. Life at school was even worse. Soon I needed to notice that kids could be cruel.

But Korey was always there, helping me out with literally everything. And now he probably can't even remember my name because they erased his memories.

I will let them burn for their actions.

I sat at the rim of my bed, waiting for the portal to open. Jace, Alec and Izzy were already gone, meeting other shadowhunters in front of the institute. My journey would start here.

Freja's portal would throw me directly into the institute. There were throwing cards and knifes hidden all around my body and I also carried two seraph daggers. They were stolen from the institute, of course.

Even if I could get out of this fight alive and came back, I would me screwed. The clave would derune me for sure this time.

Stealing weapons, stealing Alec's codes and hacking into the database, creating magic within the borders of the institute, visiting Hotel Dumort without permission, talking back in a rude way to the leaders and most important: Acting behind their back.

As I said, I was willing to pay tribute for my actions, if that included being killed or deruned I'll let it happen. Jace will come over it. He was amazing and could get every girl he desired, so why me? I am not worth the pain.

I heard a sound of a portal. Freja kept her promise. It appeared right in the corner of my room and I did what she told me: Immediately going inside. An instant later I knew exactly where I was.

The Siberian institute was much older than the one in New York. It's an ancient castle, build out of heavy stone. Over the years, nature was discovering it back. From the outside it looked completely wrecked and stories were told about the building, so no mundane with a working brain would enter the ruins.

Actually for a nephilim the castle did not look better. Most of it was destroyed, the roofs collapsed and the stone became brittle. Some rooms, especially in the basement were left. They looked like dungeons, ice-cold, no windows... just horrible.

Now I was back and I definitely did not know what to do. Thanks to the angel, that I was hidden in the shadows by now since the castle was so dark. Remembering it right, about thirty nephilim lived and worked here. Too many to kill them all on my own. But why should I wait. Life was not worth it.

I left the security of the shadows and stepped into the light, channeling my way through those well known hallways, hiding the weapons under my clothes since I heard steps coming closer.

My heart was beating fast and my head became lighter. For no reason. The person who appeared was nobody special. An easy one to kill. Naive, stupid, weak and never concentrated. He was the one who lived here without a real reason. No fighting, no summoning demons, no recruiting of new members.

I was still walking, right towards him. He smiled. "Shouldn't you be in New York? I'm surprised you are still alive. Do they need you for more runes, or..." He could not come further. I revealed my dagger, embraced the handle and pushed it through his abdomen without any regret. Pulling it out again, I kept on making my way and didn't bother about the dying nephilim behind me.

From far away I began to hear sounds. It sounded like metal hitting other metal. It echoed in my ears. They were already there. I began to run and followed the sounds.

From my current spot I thought they were in the reception room, the biggest one of all. And I was right. I witnessed a massacre. Blood, loose body parts everywhere, corpses, wounded men. Welcome home.

I was unable to move, just staring at the bloodbath in front of me. From what I could make out, more people of the NY institute were left, but Jace and Alec could not be seen anywhere.

The fight stopped and a man with dark hair and pale skin rose his hands. I knew exactly who that was. Fedor Iwanow, he was able to summon demons without any effort, and he was doing it right now.

A big black creature appeared between the frontiers. It seemed like it was made out of shadows. The moment it was up to attack one of my people I joined in, drawing the attention of the demon on myself, connecting immediately. By now I could kill them without even touching them, thanks to Alec and Jace for training with me. It inflamed and was gone.

The man looked at me with a bright smile on his face.

Fedor: "Miss Kalia Arany, I was right. Just yesterday I told my people you would come back. New York isn't something for you, is it?"

Kalia: "No. it's not really what I expected it to be."

From behind I could hear a voice. It was Alec. Seemed like he joined the party too.

Alec: "Kalia, why are you here? The clave forbid it."

Kalia: "I don't care about your rules. I rather make my own ones."

The smile on Fedor's face became even brighter.

Fedor: "That's my girl."
