When she finally decided to wrap her legs, Youngjae appeared, having forgotten to bring water. He let out a cry when he saw how damaged Sky's knees were.
"Why didn't you tell us about this?" he asked her and quickly walked over to her to check her legs. They looked really terrible. He couldn't understand how she could train so energetically today when her legs looked the way they did.
"Because it's not about me, but about all of you. I'll manage somehow. I've danced with worse injuries before," Sky waved it off. She wasn't lying; she had danced with worse injuries - a few scratches on her knees were nothing.
Once, during a practice, she had sprained her ankle and broken her wrist. Because she was the leader of the group, she didn't tell anyone. She didn't want to cause anyone more trouble, and they were nervous enough as it was; she didn't need to add to their anxiety. She danced everything as she had to. She went with her group to get the medal and trophy for first place they had won at the time, and only then did she fall to the ground in pain and burst into tears.
So yes, a battered knee covered in blood was nothing.
"Sky," Youngjae looked into her eyes, "you're our trainer, so it's also about you. How do you plan to train us if you won't be able to walk much? From now on, I'm banning your individual training sessions. I know you need them and that you want to progress in the future, but if you continue, the most you'll achieve is ending up in the hospital and spending the rest of your life in a wheelchair. Do you want that? Do you want to end up in a wheelchair and never dance again?"
"No, I don't," Sky lowered her gaze. At the moment, she didn't want to look him in the eyes.
"See," Youngjae took the bandages from her, then went to get a first aid kit from one of the cabinets.
When she had started here, she wouldn't have thought that one of her students would be applying disinfectant to her knee and then bandaging it. But nothing ever goes as you imagine it. So now she sat there, watching Youngjae wrap her knee, which, thanks to the disinfectant, was all green.
"And tomorrow, after training, you'll tell everyone about it, and I want you to keep me informed about how you're doing," he ordered her.
"Yes, Mom," Sky agreed.
"You and Jackson are the same," mumbled Youngjae as he continued with the other knee.
"What?" Sky asked. She was more making sure she had heard correctly.
"That you and Jackson are the same. Both of you are quite stubborn and are willing to go to extremes just to fulfill your dreams. Plus, that 'Yes, Mom' when someone tells you something. Jackson keeps saying that all the time," he replied. So she had heard correctly. Did he just compare her to Jackson?
"Is this some phrase in China that we Koreans don't know?" he asked.
"No," Sky laughed, "it's not a phrase. I've been saying it since I was little. My mom always used to tell me something, and that's how I developed a habit of saying it to everyone."
"Like it's catchy and better than when someone says 'yes captain,' but when you hear it every day from Jackson, it gets on your nerves," Youngjae chuckled.
"What's he like?" Sky asked.
"Jackson?" Youngjae asked her. Sky nodded. "He's like the energetic vitamin of our group. When we're tired, he can always make us laugh and energize us again. He's also a big extrovert who can be friends with almost anyone. My first impression when I met him was that it would be hard to get along with him because he's the complete opposite of me, but that wasn't true. We get along great and help each other a lot. He's also very kind and always tries to help people around him when he sees they need his assistance. But at the same time, he's not intrusive. If he came here instead of me, he definitely wouldn't immediately instruct you about what you can and can't do. First, he'd ask you how you did it, if it hurts, and why you haven't treated it yet. Then he'd ask for your permission to wrap it up and only then would he help you. That's what he's like."
"That's a completely different Jackson than the one I knew," Sky chuckled, "I met Jackson as a cold guy who didn't care about anything but himself, plus he's so stubborn that no one can talk him out of anything."
"You want to know something?" Youngjae stood up because he had finished bandaging her legs. Sky looked at him, prompting him to continue. "He's always like that in front of pretty girls."
"If you're trying to flatter me, it won't help, despite that, you'll still have tough training," Sky mumbled.
"I'm not flattering you. I'm telling you the truth," Youngjae said, "after we debut, we have a three-year ban on dating, and so Jackson made a promise to himself not to fall in love because it would only complicate things. He probably acts like that towards you because he's afraid he might build a deeper relationship with you. You can't blame him because you're genuinely an amazing girl, and any guy who dates you will be the happiest guy on earth."
"Even so, he doesn't have to completely ignore me," Sky said, "I just want him to do what I tell him, but instead, he does whatever he wants."
"Try talking to him," Youngjae smiled, "both of you speak Chinese, so you can talk to him in front of us too. Try it, and maybe he'll understand that you're really just our trainer who doesn't want anything more than friendship."
But Sky wasn't sure about that.
Does she really not want more than friendship?
