"I haven't seen you in a while. A lot of work?" a voice behind Sky asked. She didn't respond and just waited for the person to sit next to her. It was Brian. He placed his guitar case beside him and leaned against the ventilation, just like Sky.
"Not really," she replied. There was a lot of work, but there was always some time to spare. Lately, she had been avoiding Brian. Not that he had done anything to upset her or anything like that. It was more about avoiding a situation like the one with Jackson, and she didn't want to go through that again.
Once was enough for her.
"So why didn't you text or call? I had quite a bit of free time, and I could have taught you the guitar," he smiled. Sky adored his smile - it was full of kindness and friendship.
But that was it. Friendship. That's what she wanted with him, and she didn't know if Brian wanted something more. In the first week when she started working at JYP, she might have considered a relationship with him, but now she was clear on her answer.
"I was pretty tired and needed to practice on my own without the guys," she smiled as sweetly as she could. She was afraid he might be upset. However, she knew Brian, so she had a hunch that he wasn't angry. And he wasn't. He nodded understandingly.
He understood her. After training, he often stayed in the studio a bit longer to practice on his own because when you practice alone, you tend to notice your own mistakes. When you practice with others, you tend to focus more on their mistakes and consider yourself the right example.
Sky certainly didn't consider herself the right example because she knew she wasn't the best. She made a lot of mistakes and often pointed them out, so she wanted to practice on her own. If she wanted to appear as a great dancer in front of the guys, she needed to fix those mistakes and not make them. And she wouldn't make them if she practiced a lot.
"If you're tired, take a day off," he advised. Sky knew he would say that. In this, he was just like the seven guys who were probably finishing their training right now. Sky had told them that she needed some fresh air and put Jaebeom in charge, so if they weren't training, and she found out, it was Jaebeom's responsibility.
"I'm not tired today," she replied. She had spent the previous evening with Jackson in the park, and he had bought her a sunflower. She came home early, but she went to bed quite late because she sat on a chair and couldn't take her eyes off the flower. She didn't know why she was looking at it so much and why she was thinking so much about the brunet, but she went to sleep around two in the morning and woke up at seven.
She definitely wasn't that tired for the fact that she didn't get much sleep and was already standing in the studio at nine trying to fix the end of the choreography. She didn't feel a drop of fatigue. She was actually happy and full of energy. She needed air, because there was a small fan in the small studio, so the seven sweaty guys could just be felt in there.
"You look well-rested," Brian nodded, "but don't underestimate fatigue."
Yes, captain," Sky saluted, and her movement was followed by laughter. Brian felt more like an older brother than a friend at the moment.
There was a moment of silence before Sky mustered the courage to ask the question she had been avoiding, fearing it might ruin their relationship.
"Do you like me?" she asked. Brian looked at her with surprise.
"Do I like you?" he repeated. Sky nodded. "Yes, but as a friend or a younger sister. Definitely don't look for any romantic feelings. Why? Do you like me?" he teased.
"You're like my older brother," she replied.
"Do you like him, then?" he asked.
"Jackson?"
"I didn't mention his name," Brian grinned. Sky rolled her eyes. She wanted to smack him.
"I get it, you meant him," the dancer sighed. She thought she wasn't making her feelings so obvious, but apparently she was. It's true that she's been spending a lot of time with him in recent days, and when they pass by each other, they keep looking at one another. So she nodded.
"Again with him?" a voice said. Sky rolled her eyes because she knew exactly who it was.
Jackson stood in the doorway, glaring at Brian.
"Calm down, Jackson, he's a friend. I might even compare him to a brother. Yes, more like an older brother than a friend," she explained to him calmly. She didn't want to yell at him today. She didn't want to leave him standing there. Today, she wanted Jackson to reflect on himself.
"Do friends laugh together like this?" Jackson rolled his eyes. Brian just sat there, watching the two of them. He didn't understand a word, but he had a feeling that he probably shouldn't be there. He felt that what they were discussing was too personal, even though he didn't understand a word.
"I laugh with you like this too," Sky retorted. Jackson rolled his eyes again. It was getting on her nerves, so she said something she had wanted to say for a long time.
"Why would I be here flirting with Brian, wanting to date him when I like you?"
At that moment, Jackson froze and didn't know what to say. He didn't expect Sky to express her love today of all days. Brian, too, looked surprised at Sky because he understood the word for "like" in Chinese. He knew exactly what had just happened.
"Fine, and now you know," Sky shrugged, "do what you want with that information. I'm leaving." And she did exactly what she didn't want to do. She walked past Jackson without even looking at his face and left the rooftop. She told the guys in the studio that she wasn't feeling well and was going home.
At home, of course, she collapsed by the door. She pulled her knees as close to her chest as possible and started crying.
She didn't know what to do.
