Dance
Demi
All eyes are on us. As Wilmer and I sway in circles around the dance floor, I couldn't help the face eating grin that graced my lips. Ed Sheeran, one of my life long friends, was singing a slowed down version of Give me Love on the side, and I felt complete bliss.
"We're married." Wilmer murmurs, his lips pressing against my neck.
"I know." I smile again, "Can you believe it? We made it baby."
He chuckles, "Of course I believe it, I knew you were the one since I met you nine years ago."
I was nervous, on the set of Voto Latino for the first time. What if these people thought I wasn't even Latino? I barely spoke spanish and was white as a ghost. Plus, the Starbucks in my hand didn't help my case.
"Hola."
I turned around and couldn't help the blush that crept up my cheeks at the guy standing behind me. He was gorgeous, tanned, and had jet black hair. I immediately recognized him as Wilmer Valderrama, one of my castmates, and the director of Voto Latino.
"H-Hi."
He smiled, and walked forward a few steps to take my hand and kiss my knuckles, "You must be Demetria right?"
Normally, I hated when people called me by my whole name, but it sounded so right coming from his lips, "Yes, but most people call me Demi."
He nodded, "I've been very excited to meet you, it's not every year we get a new cast mate, and it's nice to get a fresh face in here, to bring in a new demographic."
I smiled, feeling fore comfortable already now that I knew I would be working with him, "I'm so excited. This seems like an amazing campaign."
He nodded, "It is, I love the message. You seem a little nervous, but don't be. We don't bite."
I giggled and nodded, following him inside the building.
"Liar." I whisper to him. "You thought I was just some teenager who was a cookie-cutter Disney kid."
He shakes his head and presses his lips to mine gently, "No, I knew you were special. You just couldn't see that yet. I knew you had potential, but your mind was stopping you from achieving that."
I smile, but it was more of a grimace as I remember the darkest days of my life, "You saved my life."
He shakes his head, "No I didn't, I pushed you to realize that only you could save your life."
"Don't do this Wilmer. Baby please." I pleaded, holding onto his jacket tightly.
"Demi you said you changed. You told me you were done with the drugs." He said, gently trying to pull away.
"No." I whimpered, "I need you. You can't do this to me. I can't handle it."
He sighed and kissed my forehead, "Demi I told you what would happen if you started again. I told you I would leave."
I shook my head, "I'm trying. But I can't do this without you. I need you."
He took my wrists and pulled them from his jacket, "No you don't. You need to learn how to walk on your own. You need to learn how to lean on yourself in your recovery. You can become the woman I know you have inside of you. But right now, I need to leave. Once you're clean, and I mean seriously clean, you can choose to call me. I'll be waiting for you."
And with that he was gone.
"It was so hard without you." I whisper, hugging him a bit tighter at the memory of those months without him.
"You don't know how hard it was to walk out that door." He says, kissing my forehead. "It was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do in my life. But I know you needed that shock, a bit of tough love."
I smile and lean my cheek on his chest, watching all of our closest friends smile and cry over us, "I love you so much it hurts."
He spun us slowly around, "You forget, my love, that I love you so much I sometimes cannot think of anything else."
I smile and kiss his jawline, "I didn't forget, I was just reminding you."
He nods, and the Ed calls for the rest of the couples to join us on the dance floor before transitioning into his song "Photograph."
I smile at the memory of this song and look up at him, "Do you remember this?"
Wilmer grins, "How could I forget?"
We had been laying under the stars for a while now, in the grass of a field that Wilmer drove to. It was beautiful up here, and nice to get away from the city life. Suddenly, he stood up and extended his hand to me.
"Dance with me."
I looked up at him with raised eyebrows, "Will, we're in the middle of a field with no music."
He pressed something on his phone and Ed Sheeran began playing, "Problem solved. And as for the field, just think of it as a really big dance floor."
I shook my head and giggled, but got up and put my arms around his neck as he held my waist, and began to turn in a slow circle. He pressed his forehead to mine and I sighed.
"I love you."
He kissed me quickly, "I love you too Hermosa."
I shook my head, "I wish there was a different word. Love sounds too... overused. We've said it so much. I need something more."
Wilmer tensed for a second, "I think I've got an idea."
I looked up at him, "What do you mean?"
He stopped turning and looked up at the sky for a second, before letting go of my waist, and taking my hand. Then, he dropped to his knee, looking up at me with the most adoring expression.
"How about, will you marry me?" d;jfn
He smiles and kisses me again as the music dwindles to an end, drawing me close, his lips moving against mine slowly, but securely. I kissed back gently. I had always dreamed of a life with this man and I was finally getting it.
My happy ending.
