What Friends Are For

@11dreeaam11 prompted this!

Before you read this I just want to make something clear, I have never experienced a tornado and I don't know ANYTHING about them either so if I get any information wrong, it's not my fault.

Also, I know this isn't my best work because I was struggling with describing everything. If this wasn't a prompt someone gave me, I wouldn't post it but I kind of have to XD

Sorry :(

Dan was sitting on the sofa in his browsing position, Cat in the same position on the other chair. He had earphones in and was blaring Muse at a dangerously high volume whilst he scrolled through Tumblr. He felt someone tap his shoulder, making him jump slightly and remove one of his earphones. "Yes?" Dan mumbled, looking up to see that Phil was standing behind him.

"Look outside.. The sky's gone a weird colour." Phil mumbled, picking at the bottom of the shirt. "It doesn't look normal."

"Tell Cat. Can't you see I'm busy?" Dan then put his earphone back in and began to scroll through Tumblr again. Of course to Dan being busy meant scrolling through Tumblr. Only Dan..

So Phil slowly wandered across the room to where Cat was sitting. "Cat.. The sky's gone a weird green colour. Is that normal? Is it some weird American thing?" Cat's head perked up and suddenly she was typing something into the search bar.

"Looks like there's going to be a tornado." Cat muttered, sighing and pushing down her laptop lid. "Make sure you stay inside and tell Dan, okay? Tornadoes can be dangerous."

"What do we do? Are we going to die? What if we die? There are so many things I want to do before I die-" Phil blurt out, his whole body shaking at the thought alone.

"You sound like Dan when he's having an existential crisis. You won't die, it's okay."

Suddenly a loud noise burst into the apartment, shaking the whole building. It sounded like a freight train and it hurt Phil's ears. Phil immediately clasped his hands over his ears, the sound so loud that it was making his head hurt. Cat did the same, except she wasn't really as panicked.

Dan just furrowed his eyebrows before taking out his earphones and doing the same thing. "What's that?" He yelled but his voice was drowned out by the loud noise.

The house was shaking so much that it was hard to stand up. Phil was losing his footing, making him stumble slightly but he managed not to fall.

"Get to the basement!" Cat yelled before practically running towards the stairs. Dan and Phil didn't really understand but followed her anyway, thinking that she was probably the best person to listen to in a situation like what was going on. Phil was physically shaking and he was on the verge of crying because he didn't know what to do at all. He felt sick and he just knew he was as white as humanly possible at that moment but, still, he followed Cat.

They ended up at the basement where the noise wasn't as loud. "Are you okay?" Cat shouted, diverting her gaze from Dan to Phil and back. Dan managed to nod, looking more confused than anything. Phil, however, was just standing there, his knees rapidly shaking as different possible scenarios ran through his eccentric mind. "Phil?" He couldn't breathe and the noise was just filling his head and making him dizzy.

When Dan noticed that Phil was swaying on the spot, he stepped closer in case Phil fainted. It was possible. "It's okay. We aren't going to die or anything." Dan mumbled, hesitantly wrapping his arms around Phil who was still shaking.

"Yeah, it's just a tornado. You'll be alright." Phil closed his eyes as he tried to match his breathing with Dan's. He could feel Dan's beating heart and that was helping him calm down slightly.

"Don't worry about it. You're okay, we're okay."

"Has it stopped?" Phil whispered, his voice barely audible. Dan pulled back from the hug for a moment and grinned. With all the worry, he hadn't actually noticed that the tornado had terminated.

"It has and look, you're okay." Phil nodded, still shaking slightly just not as bad. "You're okay." Dan repeated, tightening his grip on Phil to protect him.

After all, that was what friends were for.

"It would still be dangerous to go outside but we should be okay to go upstairs now?" Cat mumbled, scratching the back of her neck as the awkwardness of the phan hug settled in. Both of the boys nodded.

Once again, I'm really sorry.

What was the last song you listened to?

24 Floors, The Maine.
