Stereotypes Are Stupid
Punk!Dan Pastel!Phil
I basically just ranted in this story so yay enjoy..?
There's something about dyed hair and piercings that people don't like. People say 'don't judge a book by its cover' yet once they see someone in full black, they take a step back.
Stereotypes are stupid and both Dan and Phil knew that. Phil loved flowers and the colour pink and that didn't make him any less of a boy. Equally, Dan had multiple piercings, wore black all the time and had tiny pieces of meaningful artwork on his body but that didn't mean he didn't have an adorable personality.
Maybe stereotypes existed because people didn't understand... They couldn't quite grasp the concept that not every human was the same; there are billions of people in the world and somehow everyone expects them all to fit in a few categories.
You shouldn't judge someone on how they look. A 'punk' boy could be the person to make you smile every day. A boy who wears pastel, 'girly' colours could actually be extremely masculine. You wouldn't know unless you talked to them.
Phil Lester was aware of the stupidity of stereotypes. He actually loved looking at everyone's wide eyes as he confidently walked into school, in a bright pink jumper and white jeans.
Any rude comments he would brush off. He knew that bullies were just afraid of how confident he was. They feed off of his frowns and tears, so not reacting is the best thing to do. Their attention spans are short so they will soon give up.
A new boy joined the school when Phil was in Year 10. Suddenly stares weren't set on Phil but the new boy. His name was Dan.
Again, his uniqueness set everyone's gazes on him. However, instead if uttering how 'gay' and 'feminine' his style was, everyone took a couple of steps backwards.
Phil actually loved his style and was eager to learn more about the unknown personality hidden inside the new boy.
Luck was on Phil's side because, in English, Phil's teacher decided it would be a good idea to make Dan sit with him.
English lessons became the best. Dan and Phil would talk throughout the hour and Phil learned that, despite Dan's punk attire, he had one of the cutest, kindest, funniest personalities.
Phil was so glad that he didn't believe in any stereotypes. If he had avoided Dan out of fear, he would never have found the boy that made him smile every day.
One day will forever be etched into his mind just because he felt like he had kicked sense into the people at his school.
Phil was wearing his favourite mint jumper and white jeans, a beautiful flower crown on top of his head and Dan was just wearing... black. Their appearances made them look like complete opposites when their personalities were identical.
Dan and Phil held each other's hands as they walked down the corridor and everyone stared.
...They looked so different yet their personalities were the same?
Stereotypes truly were stupid (and they were never correct).
Do you believe in stereotypes?
No. I really don't (if you couldn't tell). They're so stupid? Someone's looks/gender/sexuality/whatever should not determine their personality? I don't understand how people expect so many people in the world to be the same? Am I being stupid? If you disagree with what I'm saying, enlighten me with a response so that I see your side a bit more because I really do not understand why stereotypes exist?
