Never Give Up

If I'm honest I feel like crap. But here I am updating because your votes and comments cheer me up and make me feel a little better about myself ^~^ Thank you to everyone who reads this, even if you don't vote/comment: it means so much to me<3

"I am the Amazing Phil!" A tall man randomly announced to Dan who was just walking by, his earphones in his ears. Dan glanced around but, unfortunately, everyone around him had disappeared. "What's your name, lad?"

"Dan." Dan mumbled, tempted to just walk away and ignore the weird dude.  The man- Phil was wearing a black suit and a little red bowtie, a top hat in his hand.

"Ah, Dan, a pretty name for a pretty boy." Dan frowned: he wasn't pretty. Phil put his hand into his hat and pulled out a rabbit stuffed toy. "It's not a real rabbit because keeping an animal in a hat is probably abuse."

With a raised eyebrow, Dan watched as Phil did another trick. "Pick a card!" He wasn't even sure where the cards had come from: they had just appeared in the magicians pale hand. Dan slowly pulled out a card and looked at it- the two of hearts. He slipped it back into the deck and Phil began to shuffle before picking up the top card. "Was this your card?"

Phil held out the ace of spades, making Dan laugh softly. "Not even close."

The magician blushed, flipping the deck over and showing the bottom card to the other boy. "Nope."

Five minutes later, Phil had gone through about half the deck and was blushing intensely because not a single one of them was Dan's card. The closest he had got was the four of hearts.

"Just tell me what the stupid card was." Phil grumbled in defeat whilst Dan was in hysterics, throwing his head back as he laughed loudly to himself.

"The two of hearts."

"Damn. I'm such a bad magician, can't even get a card trick right." Phil sadly put his hat on his head, the cards in his pocket and he hugged the stuffed rabbit closely. "Amazing Phil, what a joke."

"The rabbit joke was decent. I like how you didn't even use a real rabbit." Dan muttered, suddenly feeling like it was his duty to cheer up the upset magician.

"What's the point though? I should just give up on my dream."

"Hey, I know I don't know you but you shouldn't give up? You've got to fail before you succeed."

"I've failed so much. It's ridiculous."

"I'll always support you, Phil the great or whatever your name-"

"Amazing Phil.."

"Yeah. You need to practice a little more. If you ever need a volunteer, I'll help you." Dan actually found himself saying that without thinking and he wanted to be angry because honestly he didn't need to care about a failure of a magician he had stumbled upon in the street.

"Really?" The hope in the man's voice made Dan's kindness worthwhile.

-

Dan was there at Phil's first show. Admittedly, there may have been around ten people in the audience but it was a big step from where the magician was failing in the streets. "I'm the Amazing Phil!" A couple of people clapped and Phil's face lit up so bright he resembled the sun. "For my first trick I am going to need a volunteer..."

-

Everyone clapped loudly as Phil finished his last trick and bowed. He was so proud of himself for not giving up: if he had he would have never experienced that moment. He would never have witnessed the awe on everyone's face as they tried to figure out his tricks and he would never have made so many people grin.

-

Dan was also there at Phil's last show before he retired.

Instead of ten people, there were hundreds. Phil was standing in his smart suit, staring out into the theatre as everyone watched him expectantly. "This is my last show and I hope you all enjoy it!" The applause was almost deafening and Phil could feel the tears well up but he blinked them away, pulling out a deck of cards. They were getting a bit old, torn and faded but he refused to use any other pack because they weren't as special.

-

"Thank you so much to everyone who had support me throughout my time as a magician. You don't understand how much I appreciate every single one of you. There was this one fan who has been here since day one when I couldn't even complete a simple card trick properly. His name is Dan!" Dan was blushing as Phil looked at him, gesturing for him to come on stage. Dan shook his head but then Phil yelled, "Do you want him to come on stage?" The audience were shouting so the other boy wandered onto the stage, looking down at his feet.

"He's the reason I never ever gave up and I think he deserves so much credit." People were clapping as Dan looked up into Phil's teary eyes. "From the day I started, to the day I retired, this man has been my best friend and I can't thank him enough for that." Phil pulled him into a hug as they both started to cry.

Never give up on your dreams.

I feel like I should take my own advice sometimes haha...
