Dan was just casually walking around the park on a sunny Sunday afternoon. The sun was beating down on him, making his dark outfit completely unsuitable. His tanned hands were in his pockets and loud, punk music was blasting through his earphones. It was peaceful- for the most part- and he was actually enjoying the time he had to himself to think. It was like he was in an invisible bubble, watching the world move around him.

However, the bubble popped as he felt something... against his leg? Dan took out an earphone, looking down to see a medium-sized dog which he immediately recognised to be a shiba inu. A lead was trailing behind him but there was no one holding it. The dog's tail was wagging viciously and his tongue was hanging out as he breathed heavily. "Where'd you come from?" Dan said to himself, bending down to the animal's level. He stroked the dog's head and he responded by excitedly licking Dan's face.

"Who knows where your tongue has been!" Dan exclaimed, looking at the dog's tag.

"Light..." Dan let out a soft laugh. "Like from Death Note?"

"LIGHT!!" A loud voice yelled, making Dan laugh even more.

"Is that your owner?" Light's tail wagged even faster. "I'll take that as a yes."

"LIGHT!!" The voice yelled again and, seconds later a tall man came running through the trees. "Oh my gosh.. I found you, you stupid dog..." He started to mutter to himself before picking up the dog's lead. He was breathing heavily as he looked Dan up and down. "Did he make a friend? I'm sorry if he annoyed you at all!"

"No, no, no! He's a lovely dog! He seems to like me for some reason."

"Maybe he was bringing us together," The man giggled. Once he saw how red he had made Dan, he stopped giggling and his eyes widened. "No, I uh- meant it in a friendly way!"

"Sure... Anyways, I'm Dan."

"Phil."

"Is your dog named after an anime character by any chance?"

"Ah! You like anime and my dog likes you! To me, we sound like a perfect match... for friends, I mean."

Dan scratched at his neck, glancing down at Light before diverting his gaze back up to Phil. "I just realised how weird this situation is."

"It is a bit peculiar but oh well! Friends?"

"Of course!"

"Light obviously loves you very much," Phil started, smiling at how happy his dog looked sitting by his new friend. "So maybe we should walk him together some time?"

"That sounds amazing!"

"Can I have your number? You know, to arrange the walk."

"Okay."

From the moment they spilt ways again to the next time they met up, they texted nonstop. They quickly became best friends as they realised how much they had in common.

No one believed the only reason they met was because of Phil's stupid dog but they believe it was fate.
