I Owe You
This was probably one of the hardest AUs I have ever written but it was really fun to write.
TW: Anxiety
The bank was fairly empty when Dan walked into it, hoping to simply withdraw some money. He really wasn't in the mood for waiting in a long line so he secretly grinned when he saw that the bank was completely empty. He walked up to one of the cash points and put in his card. He typed in his pin number and selected the amount of money he wanted.
He quickly turned around when he heard the door close. A tall man, in his late twenties, walked in and the first thing Dan noticed about him was his Pokémon shirt. It had Gengar's face on it which Dan found really cute, considering not many twenty year olds were complete geeks like he was. His mind snapped back to the cash point when his money was released. He grabbed the notes and slipped his wallet out of his pocket. He shoved them into his wallet and stepped to the side, letting the man who had just walked in get his money out.
Just as the stranger was putting his card into the slot, a yell filled the room and everyone froze. "Everyone drop to the floor!" (This is probably the right time to say I have never witnessed a bank robbery so disclaimer- this will definitely not be accurate) A booming voice yelled and neither of the men believed what was happening. They turned slowly and, as soon as they saw the gun grasped in someone's hand, they dropped to the ground. Their hearts were beating rapidly and Dan was trying his best to not pass out. He was feeling really dizzy, his head was spinning horribly and his thoughts weren't processing properly. "This is a robbery!" Another man entered the room, also holding a gun. He was wearing a black mask, covering his identity, and was generally wearing dark clothes. The second man walked up to the desk, towards a petrified worker and held out his hand.
"Give me the money." He said in the calmest voice possible. The bank manager's eyes were wide as he timidly shook his head.
Dan closed his eyes and tried his best not to cry. He was shaking violently and just wanted to get up and run. He wasn't in the mood (who would be?) and he was just fed up. He wanted to hide under his bed covers and cry until his eyes stung.
"Give me the money!" Dan heard someone yell and it made him stiffen. He was expecting a gunshot to shake the room at anytime so he was mentally preparing himself for the horrible sound- and sight. Dan frantically looked around the room until his eyes laid on the man who had walked into the shop just moments after he had. The stranger had his phone in his hands and was quickly dialing a number. He glanced up every couple of seconds to make sure the robbers weren't watching him.
Dan couldn't do anything. He knew he should probably be trying to contact the police or someone at least but he was frozen. He couldn't move.
One of the robbers was holding a gun in the direction of the poor bank worker who was fumbling around behind her desk. It was obvious that her hands were shaking as she pulled open draws. "Hurry up!" The robber yelled, his finger hovering over the trigger. He wanted to show that he wasn't afraid to shoot; he wasn't afraid to kill someone.
Suddenly, a group of men in navy uniforms burst into the bank, holding guns. "This is the police. Put your hands up and there won't be any trouble." One of them said, hesitantly taking a step towards the robbers who were paying more attention to them than the hostages. One of the robbers pressed the trigger of their gun and the sound of the shot made the hostages freeze. No one was hit, thankfully.
"Excuse me?" Someone whispered, making Dan jump. He turned in the direction of the voice to see that the stranger was looking at him with tear-filled eyes. "Are you-" He started but the end of his sentence was muffled because the policemen began to run towards the robbers.
-
"Are you okay?" The stranger asked, taking a seat beside Dan. "I was going to ask before but... you know." Dan just nodded, wrapping his own arms around himself to protect himself. "Are you sure? You're shaking."
"I'm perfect." Dan muttered, looking down at his lap.
"I'm Phil."
"Dan.." Phil opened up his arms and Dan raised an eyebrow, not fully understanding.
"You need a hug." Dan didn't argue, he just edged forward on his seat and allowed Phil to wrap his arms around him. "I can't believe that just happened.. Are you hurt?" Dan couldn't help but wonder why the stranger cared so much.
"No. Are you?"
"Nope." Phil pulled back from the hug and looked up at the clock which was on the wall on top of the door. They were waiting for a policeman to talk to them and ask them about what happened. "What are you going to tell the police?"
"I don't want to talk to them." Dan's face drained of colour, making Phil bite his lip. Phil was really worried about the stranger: he seemed really anxious.
"You have to."
"I don't want to." Dan repeated, his eyes filling with tears.
"Please don't cry..." Phil mumbled, unsure of what to do. He just awkwardly sat there as he watched a tear slip from Dan's eyes. "What's your favourite colour?" He blurted out after a couple of moments, deciding he had to calm Dan's anxiety and the best way to do that was by making him forget his worries.
"Why?" Dan's voice was shaking.
"Just answer the question."
"Probably red..."
"Favourite animal?"
"Llamas..? Why?"
"Answer the questions!"
After around half an hour of random questions, Dan worries had slightly subsided. He was softly smiling, his enthusiasm growing with each question. However, the anxiety was back as soon as a tall man walked into the room. "We're ready to question you." He looked at Dan.
"I'll be here when you get back, okay?" Phil muttered, sending a comforting smile to Dan.
"Promise?" Dan managed to say, his voice still shaking.
"I promise."
-
Phil was there when Dan got back, just like he promised. Dan wasn't as anxious: the questioning had gone smoothly and he had nothing else to worry about. Phil went off to be questioned and Dan waited for him. Phil didn't even ask for him to wait, he just did.
Dan was daydreaming as Phil walked out of the questioning room, meaning he didn't even notice Phil's presence until Phil tapped him on the shoulder. "You waited for me? Why?" Phil asked, making Dan jump slightly.
"Because you're nice? You waited for me." Dan mumbled, looking down at his feet.
"Do you want to get a coffee or something?"
"You did help me with my anxiety... I guess I owe you."
I didn't edit this much because you know... >.<
