Our Daughter ↣ Parent!Dan & Parent!Phil {Requested}

Requested by Thatdorkhaley . Thanks for requesting! This is such a cute idea.

In which you are Phan's four-year-old daughter

Sorry if I murder your heartstrings.

I'm gonna say daddy a lot so please don't comment anything about it you kinky little shits

"Alright, are we live?"

"Not yet. Where's (Y/N)?"

"Um..."

"Dan! I thought you said you would get her while I started the live show!"

"I did! She was just here! But I—"

"Daddies!"

Your voice fills the flat, and immediately Dan and Phil jump up and rush toward their shared bedroom.

"(Y/N)!" Dan exclaims when he sees you. You're currently bouncing up and down on the bed, holding Lion and Dan's Winnie the Pooh stuffed animal tightly in your arms.

"Daddy!" You jump down from the bed and drop the stuffed animals. You run over to him and he scoops you up in his arms.

"(Y/N)," Phil says sweetly, picking up your stufffed animals and setting them gently on the bed. "We have a live show to do, remember?"

You stick your bottom lip out in a pout and rest your head on Dan's shoulder.

"I don't wanna!" You whine.

"(Y/N)—"

"—She doesn't have to, Phil," Dan interjects.

Phil sighs, walking over to his husband and daughter. He brushes your hair out of your eyes and kisses your forehead gently.

"Of course you don't have to," he says. "But..." he draws out the word and the corner of his lips turn up into a smile.

Your small eyes widen.

"What if I told you I would give you sweets if you did the live show with us?"

You smile widely and clap your hands together. "Yay! Sweets!"

You jump down from Dan's arms and take off running toward the lounge.

Dan looks at Phil, his expression stoic.

"What?" Phil asks.

"Really, Phil?" Dan deadpans. "Bribing our daughter with sweets? Shame on you."

"What?" Phil shrugs, smiling a bit. "I had to get her to do it somehow!"

Dan laughs and pushes Phil's shoulder lightly as they walk to the lounge.

"Wait, Phil! I almost forgot! The onesie!"

*~*~*~*

"Hey guys! We have a very special guest tonig—(Y/N) put down those monster pops and come on!"

"Phil! You just ruined the surprise!"

Phil winces, a slight blush dusting his cheeks.

"Ah!" He covers his face with his hands. "I'm sorry!"

"And the chat is going crazy right now," Dan comments, leaning toward the computer screen. He looks at the chat section of the live show, which mainly consists of comments along the lines of 'WHO'S (Y/N)?!?!'

"Well I imagine," Phil chuckles. "I just ruined the surprise that we adopted a daughter!"

"Phil! Spoilers!"

Phil clamps his hand over his mouth to prevent himself from saying anymore.

"I'm just going to talk now, okay?" Dan asks carefully, putting his hand on his husband's shoulder.

Phil nods silently.

"Okay..." Dan turns to the laptop and looks and the camera. He can barely contain his smile. "Well, you heard Phil. We were playing on announcing it together, but—" he glances over at Phil. "—obviously that didn't happen. We—"

"—We adopted a daughter!" Phil blurts out excitedly.

Dan throws his hands up in exasperation.

"I'm sorry, Dan! I just couldn't take it anymore!" Phil smiles. "I'm too excited. More excited than when we went on tour!"

Dan breaks out into a laugh. "Infinitely more excited than when we went on tour."

"(Y/N)!" Phil calls, looking over at the little girl sitting on the lounge chair, holding a homemade monster cake pop.

You stop nibbling on your monster pop and tilt your head to the side.

"Yeah Daddy?" You question.

"Come 'ere!" Dan smiles brightly, waving you over to him.

You jump down from the chair, which is way too oversized for you, and carefully set your cake pop on the table. Dan and Phil smile at how gentle you are with everything, even a monster pop.

Dan laughs and hides his face in Phil's shoulder.

"She's so smol..." he whispers, smiling widely.

You rush over to your dads, jumping up on the couch. You settle yourself cuddled in between them, half in Phil's lap and half in Dan's lap.

"This..." Phil says as he looks down at you, his eyes full of awe. "Is (Y/N)."

"I'm (Y/N)!" You squeeze your eyes shut, smile, and wave at the camera. "(Y/N) Howell-Lester! That's my name. My name used to be (Y/N). Just (Y/N). But now that I have two dads my name is (Y/N) Howell-Lester."

Dan and Phil smile wider than they ever have before. Happiness warms their entire bodies right down to the core. Even on this cold autumn night, the room is filled with warmth and love and life.

"That's right," Dan nods, bopping your tiny nose lightly with his finger. "Show them your onesie!"

"Oh!" Your eyes light up, and you turn from Dan to the laptop. "Daddy got me this Winnie the Pooh onesie to match his! We're twinsies," you say matter-of-factly.

You're wearing a soft yellow and red onesie with a hood with Winnie the Pooh's signature smile and bear ears. The hood, though, is too big, and it falls over your eyes. Dan thinks it makes it even cuter.

"It's really com...c-com-put-a-ble," you say, all of your words jumbling together.

"Comfortable?" Phil corrects.

You nod. "That's what I said, Daddy! Com-put-a-ble!"

Dan and Phil laugh.

"We'll work on those big girl words later," Phil comments.

"I can say big girl words!" You pout. "Like how Daddy says ex..." you furrow your little brow, thinking hard on how you want to pronounce your words. "Ex...ex-i-pencil."

Dan and Phil burst out laughing.

"Existential?" Dan chuckles.

You nod enthusiastically. "Yeah!"

Phil laughs, his tongue poking out the side of his mouth a bit.

"(Y/N), I think it'd be best not to listen to everything Daddy says..." Phil smiles his little sideways smile, glancing over at Dan.

"Why not?" You question innocently, looking up at Phil. "I hear you talking about somebody named Annie-May all the time!"

Phil blushes, and Dan laughs loudly.

"Anime?!" Dan exclaims. "She's too young, Phil! Too young!"

"I—! She—! I-I didn't—! Ugh!" Phil stops stuttering and covers his face in embarrassment.

"She's only four, gosh Phil!"

"Okay, the chat is going absolutely crazy, so should we explain a bit?" Phil asks, reading the flood of comments on the computer screen.

"I guess we should." Dan nods and takes a deep breath. "Guys, this is—wow, okay...I just—"

"Daddy!" You interrupt Dan. "Just say something already!"

Dan looks down at you and smiles, his dimple deeper than the Atlantic Ocean.

Phil takes Dan's hand and squeezes it reassuringly.

"What I'm trying to say here is, this is a really important moment in our lives, and we want to share it with you guys. We were kind of undecided about telling you, as we didn't want to exploit this little bean in any way, but we thought this was too important not to share," Dan explains.

"We adopted a daughter," Phil states simply.

"Yes, that's basically the point I was trying to make," Dan laughs.

"And we wanted to introduce her to you more personally than we could in a video."

"We did make a video over the course of this—what, two and a half years?" Dan looks over at his husband, who nods. "Right. Two and a half years. It was a really long and, for lack of a better word, harrowing process. We were so tired and frustrated, halfway through it I just wanted to give up on the whole thing."

"But luckily I made Dan persevere!" Phil adds. "After about three years and a stack of paperwork as tall as us, we finally got to take home our little girl!"

"Me!" You exclaim, smiling and clapping your hands together. "I'm their little girl!"

Dan and Phil laugh and attack you in a hug, causing you to be squished in between them.

"Daddies! I'm being squished!" You whine.

"No love, you're not being squished," Dan says, pulling back the Winnie the Pooh hoodie and ruffling your hair. "You are a squish."

"What's a squish?" You ask, titling your head to the side like a little confused puppy.

"Awww!" Phil gushes, putting his hands on his cheeks. "She's so cute!"

"I think we've established this already, Phil," Dan laughs, hugging you again.

"You're right. This entire live show can't be us just obsessing over our daughter," Phil says, looking at the laptop camera.

"I actually think they'd be okay with that," Dan deadpans at the camera.

"You're right...again." Phil chuckles. "So welcome to the (Y/N) edition of our live show!"

You make a face. "I still don't know what a live show is."

Your dads laugh.

"Let's answer some Q's!"

*~*~*~*

"Your first show, (Y/N)!" Phil exclaims, closing the laptop. "How did you like it?"

You didn't understand much of what was going on, but Dan and Phil's fans absolutely adored you. They asked simple questions like what your favorite color was, then more personal questions, like if Dan will teach you piano. (The answer: yes, he will).

You shrug. "I felt weird. I think I'm shy."

Dan smiles gently. "Don't worry. You won't have to do another if you don't want to."

"But I liked seeing my face on the screen!" You say. "I look like Winnie the Pooh!"

Phil laughs and kisses your forehead softly.

"How about a movie to celebrate?" Phil says excitedly. "Maybe...Big Hero 6?"

"Yay!" You clap your hands together as Phil gets up from the couch.

"Do you want your Baymax plushie?" Dan asks.

"Yes! Oh, oh! And Lion! And Winnie the Pooh! A-And Bear! And—"

"Why don't we just bring all of your stuffed animals out?" Phil asks, sitting back down on the couch.

You bite your lip and nod.

"Alright, I'll go get them." Dan's lips turn up into a smirk. "But first..."

Dan leans forward and tickles your sides. You break out into a fit of laughter, causing the oversized Winnie the Pooh hood slips down over your eyes. You plunge into darkness. Your smile disappears, and your mouth drops open slightly.

"Daddies?" You ask, a strange feeling rising up inside you. Being only four years old, you have no idea what anxiety is yet. "Daddies?!"

"(Y/N)!"

Suddenly, the darkness is lifted, and a pair of worried blue eyes look down at you.

You jump up and wrap your small arms around Phil's neck.

"The place with all the kids was dark," you whisper. "Just like that. I don't like the dark."

Phil and Dan exchange glances as Phil hugs you tightly to him.

"The place with all the kids?" Dan asks slowly.

You pull out of the hug and settle on Phil's lap. He wraps his arms around you securely.

"Y-Yeah," you nod. "I forgot what it's called. The or...t-the...or-or—"

"The orphanage?" Dan asks solemnly, leaning closer to you. He soothingly rubs your back.

You frown. "That's the word. I don't like that word. I don't like that place. It's a mean place. I don't want to go back." You look up at Phil and Dan with tears pooling at the edges of your wide eyes. "I don't have to go back, do I?"

Dan and Phil look at each other, complete sadness in their eyes. The fact that you would even ask them that scares them. It makes them feel helpless, as though someone could take their precious daughter away from them.

"Oh, no, (Y/N)," Phil says reassuringly, hugging you close. "Don't ever say that. You're not going back there. Ever."

"We love you, (Y/N)," Dan says, gently wiping away your tears. "We would never let you be away from us, yeah?"

You nod. "Y-Yeah."

Phil kisses the top of your head, Winnie the Pooh hoodie and all.

"D-Daddies?" You sniff, wiping your eyes.

"Yes?" Dan and Phil reply in unison.

"I love you."

Dan and Phil smile the happiest smile they've ever smiled in their entire life.

That was the first time you said "I love you" since they adopted you.

And it definitely will not be your last.
