Babysitting ↣ Dan & Phil

That picture was too adorable not to use.

"Are you sure it won't be a problem? Are guys filming or anything?" You ask, grabbing your purse and jacket.

"Phil is, but I'll keep her quiet during that time. Kids take naps, right?"

You laugh and shake your head. "Yes, Dan, kids do take naps."

"Do they take naps all day?" Dan asks hopefully.

"Sadly, no," you smile. "But you guys won't have a problem...right?"

"Nope! No problem at all! Uncle Phil and I have this all under control."

"Uncle Phil?" You ask, raising your eyebrow.

"Well what else do you expect her to call him?" Dan laughs, and so do you.

"Alright, alright, fair enough. Just make sure-"

"Yeah, yeah, I got it," Dan waves you off and leads you to the door.

"But I didn't even-"

"Everything will be fine. Go see your family, (Y/N)," Dan says, rather calmly. "You trust me, right?"

"Of course! It's just-"

"Phil?"

You roll your eyes. "I trust Phil completely, probably more than you," you joke.

Dan laughs. "Then what's the problem? Enjoy your holiday, and Phil and I will take care of her."

You exhale deeply. "Just call me, okay? Just to check in and-"

"I will."

You frown. "I'll miss you guys," you say, hugging Dan tightly.

"(Y/N), you'll only be gone for five days." Dan says. "But I'll miss you too."

You pull away, and you hesitantly shrug on your jacket and pick up your suitcase.

"Are you sure you won't have a problem?" You ask one more time.

Dan rolls his eyes. "Go, (Y/N)! We won't have a problem!"

"Okay, okay!" You hold up your hands in defense. "Love you."

"Love you too," Dan says, smiling as he kisses you.

You finally leave the flat, and Dan closes the door behind you.

Just as he does, Phil comes running down the stairs.

"Dan." Phil says breathlessly, his eyes wide. "We have a problem."

Dan's eyes widen,. "Wh-what do you mean we have a problem?" He mumbles.

"I can't find her!" Phil exclaims.

Dan shakes his head as Phil starts pacing back and forth. "What do you mean you can't find her?!"

"I can't find her!" Phil repeats, stopping his pacing. "We were in the lounge and I turned around and she-"

He's interrupted by a loud CRASH.

Dan and Phil exchange looks before bolting up the stairs, practically pushing each other over and tripping up the steps to reach the top.

"Winnie!"

"Irony!"

"Dan, I told you to stop calling her that!"

"She's my daughter, Phil!"

As if it was an unspoken agreement, the two boys split up, Dan checking the office upstairs and Phil checking the kitchen. Dan's search, however, is interrupted when he hears Phil shriek, "Dan, she found the sweets!".

Dan runs back down the stairs and turns into the kitchen, but he smacks his forehead against the glass door.

"Phil!" He yells after he slides the door open, holding his hand to his head. "Why'd you close the door?!"

"So she wouldn't run away again!" Phil motions to the four-year-old that's clinging to his leg with one hand, and holding a bag of Maltesers in the other.

"Aww," Dan gushes. "She's already taking after me!"

"Dan!" Phil exclaims, leaning over and taking the bag out of Winnie's hand. "(Y/N) said she wasn't allowed to have those!"

"No!" Winnie whines, reaching up for the bag of sweets.

Dan rolls his eyes and smiles. "Just give her the bag, Phil," he says simply, walking over to Phil. He takes the bag out of his hands and gives it to Winnie.

"Yay! Thank you Daddy!" Winnie smiles, reaching up to be held.

Dan smiles as he picks up the small girl. She's only four, almost five, and she's already picked up more of Dan's habits than yours. She looks more like you, with your hair and eye color, but when she smiles, she has Dan's dimple.

"You look so much like (Y/N)," Dan whispers, smiling a little.

Phil smiles too. "She's going to be absolutely crazy with all the sugar, though."

Dan smiles wider. "Who cares? She's allowed to have some sweets." He sets down Winnie, who immediately runs off with the bag of Maltesers in hand.

"(Y/N)'s going to kill you once she finds out you let her have candy," Phil comments.

Dan lifts his shoulder in a shrug and leans against the counter. "Nah. I'm a good dad."

A noise comes from down the hall that makes Dan and Phil wince. It's the sound of an out of tune piano being played very, very badly.

Phil tries to hold in his laugh. "Sounds like you're a great dad."

Dan rolls his eyes and rushes to his bedroom.

"Winnie! Stop playing the piano!"

"But I wanna be like you!"

"I'll teach you later, okay? Just-no, no! Winnie don't touch that! That's my-"

Too late. Winnie gets ahold of Dan's laptop.

"Winnie, put that down," Dan says, his voice suddenly serious.

"I wanna play games!" Winnie exclaims instead, opening the laptop and hitting the keyboard with her fingers, which are sticky from eating sweets.

Dan winces and runs over to her. "No, that's Daddy's, not yours," he says, taking the laptop out of her hands. "If you want to play games, we could-"

But Winnie is already off and running.

Dan sighs as Winnie jumps up and runs out of the room. Shortly after, he hears Phil calling his name from his room.

When Dan enters the Phil's room, he sees Phil sitting on his bed with his arms crossed. Winnie is attached to his leg again.

"Can you play with me, Uncle Philly?" Winnie says excitedly, clutching onto Phil's leg for dear life.

"Uncle Philly?" Phil laughs and looks at Dan. "Since when did she start calling me that?"

"I like your laugh, Uncle Philly," Winnie smiles up at him.

"Aww..." Phil uncrosses his arms and picks her up, setting Winnie on his lap. He tickles her and makes a funny face, and her bright laughter fills the room. "She's so cute!"

"Stuffed animal!" Winnie suddenly wriggles out of Phil's arm and jumps across his bed, over to his bedside table. Over to Lion.

"Wait!" Phil exclaims, lunging across the bed after her. But Winnie grabs Lion and jumps off the bed. "Winnie no!" He calls after her as she runs through the flat, laughing loudly.

"She has your laugh," Phil says to Dan before jumping up and chasing Winnie.

Dan starts to follow them, but the phone vibrating in his pocket stops him.

"Hello?"

"Dan!" You say. "How's Winnie?"

"Well I'm fine, thanks for asking."

"Sorry, love, how are you?" You ask sarcastically.

"Perfectly well, thank you." Dan replies in a fake posh accent, which makes you laugh. "Why are you calling? It hasn't even been an hour."

"Yeah, I know. I'm still waiting for my plane. Just checking on our girl."

"She's-"

A loud, high-pitched shriek fills the apartment.

"-Fine," Dan finishes with a wince.

"That did not sound like she was fine, Dan," you say, your voice filling with worry.

"Calm down, love," Dan says, biting his lip and looking for Phil and Winnie. They're nowhere to be found. How, he doesn't know. The flat isn't that big. "She's...fine." He repeats. "She's just playing with Uncle Philly."

"Stop right there," you say, laughing a little.

"See? There's that laugh I wanted to hear!"

"Don't you hear it because of Winnie?"

"No, she has my laugh."

"She does not," you argue.

"Yes she does," Dan says, still walking around the flat. "Even Uncle Philly said so."

"I said stop calling him that!" You whine, and Dan laughs.

"No! Winnie, get down from there! And give me back Lion!"

Dan freezes.

"Was that Phil?" You ask, panic rising inside of you. "What did he say?"

"N-Nothing!" Dan says, following Winnie's laughter and Phil's voice down the stairs. He stops short when he sees what's in front of him.

Winnie is somehow holding herself up in the air, her hands and feet pressed against the walls on either side of her, like the spider wall jump thing on Ninja Warrior. Phil's lion plushie is balanced on top of her head.

"Phil," Dan says slowly, ignoring the phone at his ear for a moment. "How."

"I don't know!" Phil exclaims. "She was running on the steps, then she climbed up on the banister, then she just-" He motions wildly to Winnie, who's laughing. "Did that!"

"Dan! Dan! Dan, answer me!"

Dan turns his attention back to the phone, still staring in awe at his daughter. "Y-Yeah?"

"Is everything okay?!"

"Everything is fine, (Y/N)." Dan says in a monotone voice. "Just fine."

"Dan."

"Call you later. Love you."

"Dan!"

He hangs up and immediately goes over to Winnie.

"Winnie, seriously, get down now," Dan says.

Winnie frowns, but jumps down anyways. Dan just barely catches her, and Phil just barely catches Lion.

"Okay, let's do something calm, like play dolls...or something. You like that, right?" Dan stutters as he puts Winnie down.

"I wanna play games on the TV!" She says, running up the stairs. She stops on the landing and looks down at Dan and Phil. "Come on!"

Phil looks at Dan. "Do you think she's too young to play Mario Kart?"

Dan smirks. "No one's ever too young for Mario Kart, especially my daughter. She'll be the best Mario Mart 27 player ever when she grows up." He looks up at the top of the staircase, and his smile immediately disappears. Winnie is nowhere to be found. "Where is she?"

Phil looks up and his shoulders sag. "Are you kidding me? Where'd she run off to?!"

Dan sighs and runs up the stairs yet again, Phil following. They go into the lounge, only to see Winnie jumping up and down on the couch, barely holding on to the Guitar Hero guitar controller in her little hands.

"I told you not to give her those Maltesers," Phil deadpans, glaring sideways at Dan. He can have his sassy moments.

{Author's Note God I love Phil}

"Winnie, sweetie, stop jumping on the damn couch," Dan sighs, rubbing his face with his hands. His eyes immediately widen. "Did I just cuss in front of my four-year-old?"

"Daniel!" Phil scolds.

"Well at least I didn't say f-"

"Okay, that's enough!" Phil yells, finally having enough of babysitting. He covers Dan's mouth with one hand and guides Winnie down off the couch with the other. "Dan, I'm gonna go film a video. Please keep her quiet until I'm done."

Dan nods and takes Winnie's hand. "I'll find something for her to do up in the office."

Phil nods too. "Who knew babysitting was so tiring," he yawns. "Please don't have any more kids."

"No promises..." Dan half-laughs.

*~*~*~*

You open the door to your flat, expecting to find it a mess. Leaving a four-year-old alone with Dan and Phil has to result in some kind of mess.

But to your surprise, everything seems clean so far. The staircase, the hallways, everything. In fact, the entire apartment seems strangely...quiet.

"Dan?" You call. "Phil?"

You slowly walk around, looking for your husband, friend, and/or daughter. Everything is calm. No screaming like in the background of all those phone calls. No running, no laughing, nothing.

You sigh and walk into the lounge, and your confusion instantly goes away.

Dan, Phil, and Winnie are all cuddled up on the couch, fast asleep. Dan is in his sofa crease, his eyes closed. Phil is resting his head on Dan's shoulder. Winnie sits partially on Dan's lap, sleeping peacefully.

You smile to yourself and put your suitcase and purse down on the chair.

You walk over to the couch. Lightly brushing his brunette fringe away, you kiss Dan lightly on the forehead.

You kiss the top of Winnie's head as well, but before you leave the lounge, you hear someone move.

You look over at the couch, and see Phil is sat up and rubbing his eyes sleepily.

"Can I have a kiss too?" He asks quietly.

You laugh lightly and kiss Phil on the cheek. "Of course, Phil."

Phil yawns before returning to his laying position on the couch, closing his eyes again. A smile is on his face.

You start to walk out of the lounge, but you're stopped yet again when someone lightly grabs your arm.

"(Y/N)?"

"Yes Dan?"

"I love you."
