No POV

Nier and Yonah were at Mama Mia's for lunch and ordered their favorite food. They ate the turkey and potatoes and Mama Mia smiled at the sight of the brother and sister.

Mama Mia: You two enjoy. Although I have to say, I'm surprised a small girl like you could eat all of it.

Yonah: Yeah, I've been told I eat more than most girls my age.

Mama Mia: Nothing wrong with that. Just make sure you're getting exercise if you don't want your stomach to get too big.

Yonah: I'll keep that in mind.

Nier looks at Yonah and thinks about the time they were eating with their mother. Then that memory shifts to one of him holding a younger Yonah in his arms with his mother and father watching them. Nier stuggles to hold back his tears as he finishes his food and pays for it. Yonah then finishes her and the siblings leave the tavern. They head back to the church and as they make their way through the district, they overhear talking among the people.

Male 1: Did you hear about the killings on the 8th floor?

Female 1: I was there with other adventurers. Those guys were torn to shreds. What the hell could have done something so brutal?

Nier comes by a newspaper stand and grabs one. It also talks about the vicious killings that took place in the dungeon. It especially mentions that they ones who discovered that bodies were lucky to identify them from the state they were in. Nier crumples the newspaper before tossing it in a trash bin. Yonah holds onto Nier's hand and he holds her's back. They make it to the church and see that Bell is getting ready.

Nier: Hey Bell. Where ya heading?

Bell: Oh, I'm going to look for some new armor. The one I got was really good and I wanted to see if there are more made by the same guy.

Yonah: Who was the one that made yours?

Bell: Well he made it, but he didn't give me it. I found it in a box when I was looking for equipment. But the blacksmith's name is Welf Crozzo. I'm gonna see if there are any more of hsi works.

Nier: Well, just take it easy. You had a lot of recovering to do after your latest run in with a minotaur.

Bell: I know. But that made me get one step closer to being stronger. I will keep fighting until I can make it to Ms. Aiz's level.

Yonah: Well, just keep you expectations in the middle. Never know when something might happen.

Bell just takes off and runs.

Bell: Sorry, can't talk right now! See ya later!

Yonah: Did he do that on purpose?

Nier: I don't really know.

Hestia then comes out of the door leading to the basement.

Nier: Hi Hestia.

Hestia: Oh, Hi you two.

Nier: What's up?

Hestia: Oh nothing. I wanted to say goodbye to Bell, but it appears he took off before I could go up here. So, is there anything you guys want to talk about.

Nier and Yonah sit with Hestia on the steps of the church and talk about how life has been ever since they went to Orario.

Hestia: Uh, this might be a bad time to mention it, but did you two ever register for the guild?

Yonah: There was a guild in this town?

Nier: I guess that's where Bell takes a detour on the way home.

Hestia giggles while nier and Yonah laugh nervously.

Hestia: No worries. Well Nier, how are you enjoying your day off?

Nier: As long as I'm with Yonah, it's perfect.

Hestia: I'm glad. I like seeing you two as siblings.

Yonah: Hestia. Is it okay if we tell you a little about us before we came to Orario?

Hestia: Of course. And maybe after this, I can ask Bell for his.

Hestia has an odd smile on her face, much to Nier and Yonah's confusion.

Nier: Hestia?

Yonah: Why is your face like that?

Hestia: Sorry. Just imagining things. Go ahead.

Nier: Well as far as we can remember, we lived with our parents.

Yonah: Well, mostly mom.

Nier and Yonah have sad looks on their faces.

Nier: Yeah. I remember Dad being their for a good part of my life. But Yonah was too young to fully remember him.

Hestia: What happend?

A tear falls down Nier's face.

Nier: He died. There was an attack. He gave his life so we could escape with Mom.

Yonah: All I could remember was Dad's smile. And that he and Mom took us on a picnic every now and again. I can't stop thinking back on those few times we lived in our Cabin.

Nier: Of course, Mom thought that maybe it'd be best if me and Yonah grew up around other people. So she brought us to a village she helped save once. We ended up becoming their guardians since Mom and I would hunt animals and monsters that were harassing the them.

Yonah: And they took care of me while they were away. Until...

Hestia: Until what?

Nier: There was an attack on the village. They killed everyone. I had to protect Yonah from them. After that, Mom took us back to the cabin and started training us. She then told us about Dad's stories of Orario and how we could get stronger her. So that's kinda what kicked off our trip here.

Hestia: Nier, Yonah. I'm so sorry about everything. Especially about your dad. I'm sure he loved you with all his heart.

Yonah: We know that

Hestia: Could you, tell me more about your mother?

Nier: How can I describe her. She was the most amazing person in the world. She was strong and always put us before herself.

Yonah: We had the same father. But not the same mother.

Hestia: What?

Nier: She was Yonah's birth mom and my step mom. For a long time, I though she was my mother. I figured it out when I found a picture of Dad with another woman holding me when I was a baby. I talked to mom about it. I wasn't made at that, I was just really sad that I wasn't related to her by blood. You know what she did after that?

Hestia: What did she do?

Nier: She hugged me tighter than ever before. She then told me that no matter what, I am her son. I cried and she wouldn't let me go for thirty minutes.

Yonah: I heard from behind a door. I came into the room and joined them.

Hestia smiles and is happy for the two sibilings.

Hestia: You both have a good family.

Nier: Thanks.

Hestia: Well, I better get going now.

Yonah: To where?

Hestia: Oh, I promised Hephaestus that I'd help out with something. You two have fun.

Nier: Stay safe.

Yonah: Later.

Hestia walks away and the siblings go back inside the church. Suddenly, they hear something happening behind them. They look to see a ball of light and when it fades, a letter remains in its place. Nier goes to it and sees a name on the envelope.

"From Faye"

Yonah: Mom?

Nier opens it and seesa note inside it.

"Dear Nier and Yonah. I hope you two have been having a fun time in Orario. I know I was a bit hyppcritical with wanting to train you two for anything, but disliking actually letting you two go to what is essentially where all the world's most famous warriors live in and fight in the dungeon. Well, I don't mean to sound demanding when I ask this. Can you two please come home as soon as you can? I want to see you both again. And that thing I told you about. I think it's going to happen sooner than I can. I just want to hold you two in my arms before it happens. Thank you, both so much. - Love Mom"

Nier and Yonah are worried from this and want to leave as soon as they can.

Nier: We should leave now.

Yonah: I'm with you. But should we do it without telling Bell and Hestia? Maybe we should wait for them to get back.

Nier: Okay. But then we're leaving after that.

Yonah nods and the two of them back up their bags for the trip back home. After a few hours, Bell and Hestia return to the church and see Nier and Yonah waiting for them.

Bell: I'm home.

Hestia: How was your day?

Nier and Yonah tell Bell and Hestia about the letter and their desire to return home to their mother. They also make it clear that they don't know when they'll return, so they want to make sure that it'll be okay without them.

Bell: Don't let us stop you two.

Nier: Are you sure?

Hestia: Family is important. And you two should see your mother. Bell and I will be fine.

Yonah: Thanks for letting us join the Familia

Hestia: Thank you two for joining us. Stay safe on your journey home.

Nier: We will. Thank you both.

Nier and Yonah grab their bags and start heading out of Orario. They stand on a hill as they did when they arrived at the city and took a look at it before they keep walking away. The trip lasts a few days ad the two hardly got rest for that duration. They end up hitching a ride on a wagon with a destination close to where they're heading, and it was a chance to have a nap until then. After they reach that point, the siblings go to a forest where the fog becomes dense and hard to see through. The two eventually reached a rock and Nier looks at Yonah who nods at him. Yonah pulls out a knife and uses it to draw a rune on the stone.

Yonah: (Ancient Language)

The stone glows and the two end up feeling wind swirl around them. After a few minutes, it stops and they find themselves in a forest with a different feeling to it. They go in the direction ahead of them and find themselves on a cliff overlooking a land that is cold and with Snow in several places.

Nier: Midgard. We're back home, Yonah.

Yonah: Let's go back to the cabin then.

Nier: Absolutely

Yonah gets on Nier's back and he beings treking through the land. After descending down the cliff, he makes it to the ground and runs toward their destination. The trek through the forest and other parts of the land. Eventually, they make it to a forest and Nier walks through it with Yonah still riding on his back. They eventually make it to a cabin and see a woman holding a bow. Their mother, Faye.

Nier/Yonah: Mom!

Faye looks at them and is overjoyed to see the siblings.

Faye: Yonah! Nier!

She runs toward the two and hugs the two tightly. The three of them embrace each other and go on for a minute before entering the cabin. They sit at the table where Faye makes them their favorite meals including a blackberry bread. They all eat together and Freya smiles a the sight of her children. After dinner is finished, Nier and Yonah tell Faye about their time in Orario, mentioning Hestia and Bell.

Faye then grabs her axe and spins it around a bit.

Faye then holds and hands it to Yonah.

Faye: Yonah, this axe has done well at my side for a long time. Now, I want it's new partner to you.

Yonah accepts it and smiles.

Faye leaves the table and goes to a secret compartment in the floorboards. She then pulls out a thin, long white cloth.

Faye: Nier, I had some old friends make this for you.

Nier grabs the cloth before unwrapping it and seeing a sword with an ice color scheme and appears to be glowing.

Nier: Thank you.

Faye: Now, why don't you two get some sleep? You seem like you haven't slept much since you're journey back to Midgard.

Nier: Two days of constant walking.

Yonah: Then we hitched a ride on a wagon and got like 4 hours of sleep. Then it was more walking for more hours until we reached the gate point.

Faye: And then it was 12 hours of making it back here. You two more than deserve it.

Nier and Yonah got to their beds and lay down. They both end up falling asleep before they could cover themselves. So Faye helps them before laying on her bed and falling asleep as well. Nier ends up having another nightmare of the armored being. This time, he sees a destroyed land that is flodded and filled with storms. He looks down and sees his arms are like that of the being. He then feels hatred enveloping him and he ends up saying terrifying words.

Nier?: I... Am... DAMOCLES!!!!

Nier wakes up and pants with Faye next to him and she hugs him.

Faye: Nier, it's okay. I'm here.

Nier calms down and slows his breathing.

Faye: What was it?

Nier: I... I keep having these nightmares. I keeping seeing this being that is filled with hatred. I find myself surrounded by death and destruction. And I once saw a woman in my images who claimed to have given me my soul.

Faye sighs and looks at Nier as if she needs to confess something.

Faye: Son... There's something I've been wanting to tell you for a while.

Nier: What is it?

Faye: Come with me.

Faye and Nier go outside the cabin and start a fire that they sit by.

Faye: Son... You're not an ordinary boy.

Nier: Well, I am an adventurer.

Faye: No, you're something much more than that. You are a god.

Nier: What? There's no way.

Faye: Normally, yes. But you are a human with the power and soul of a god. Have you ever noticed any strange things happenning.

Nier knows that the strange blackouts are one thing, but doesn't know how to explain it. However, he doesn't wish to hide it any longer.

Nier: I... I keep feeling hatred. Whenever I was in Orario, I hated every single inch of it. I had close calls in the dungeon with corrupt adventurers. When it felt like my rage was about to explode, I black out and find out that deaths occured. But this was after I ended up killing someone who tried to murder me. And the blackouts lead to many deaths that I can't even describe.

Faye wraps her arm around Nier's shoulders and pulls him in.

Faye: Nier, you are more than that. You have yet to understand your strength. I understand that it is frightening. But it is up to you on how you use it. There have been many gods that aren't benevolent or have been consumed by hubris. Whatever happens, protect yourself. Keep fighting for what you believe is right.

Nier: Are you sure?

Faye: Positive.

Nier: I love you, Mom.

Faye: And I love you.

After that conversation, they go back inside the cabin and back to bed. In the daytime, Faye teaches Yonah and Nier to use their new weapons and even how to summon them back into their hands. She even showed them a trick to summon each other's weapon. After that, they go into the forest and to a cliff overlooking a valley as the sun sets.

Yonah: Mom. Thank you for being there for us.

Nier: You and dad will always be the greatest people we know.

Faye smiles at her children's words.

Faye: Thank you both for being part of my life. Your father and I always told you about the sotries of others. Now it's time you both write your own.

Nier and Yonah hug her as she closes her eyes and continues to smile. However, the smile fades away and her arms lose their strength. Nier and Yonah continue to hug their mother even as her spirit has left the world.
