No POV

Nier was rowing the boat through the river with Yonah and Mimir in tow.

Yonah: So where do we go next?

Mimir: Well, now that we've got the Giant's chisel, we need to learn the travel rune to Jotunheim so we can carve it into that special gateway atop the peak, and open realm travel to the land of the Giants.

Yonah: You don't know it?

Mimir: Alas, no - but the serpent did mention that the Giants had entrusted that secret to Tyr.

Nier: I don't mean to be rude, but isn't Tyr dead?

Yonah: Yeah, some dead men don't usually tell tales. No offense.

Mimir: None taken. He is dead, aye, but his hidden vault is very much in reach. The doors are beneath his temple, submerged in the lake for generations until our snake-friend shifted his weight. There we shall find the fabled "Black Rune of Jotunheim".

Yonah: Well, let's head there now.

Nier: On it.

Nier keeps rowing and eventually he passes through the cave that they took  to get to Thamur. Soon they reach a part where it begins to feel less cold then it was where the fallen Giant was located.

Yonah: Mimir, you were in the middle of a story before. Why would Freya marry Odin? What was in it for her?

Mimir: It was a sacrifice to protect her people-- a selfless act of love. Truly, she deserves better than she got. But of course there's more to that story.

Nier: I better row faster, no telling what might come at us before we get to the lake of Nine.

Yonah: I can help too. I've been getting stronger.

Nier: It's alright Yonah. Besides, if the enemies are flying, then you'd be better suited for that.

Yonah: Okay. Just wanted to make myself more useful.

Mimir: You've been nothing but useful, little sister.

Nier keeps rowing the boat and the three eventually make it to the Lake of Nine.

Yonah: Did you see something out there? That tower...

Nier looks but sees nothing.

Nier: I see no tower.

Yonah: Maybe I'm seeing things...

The three get back to the temple and dock at the pier. They get off the boat and turn to their side to see a magic lock. Nier goes up to it and sees a magic lock. He hits it with the chisel and unlocks the door. Nier opens it and Yonah goes through it.

Yonah: Wow. I can't believe we're really setting foot in Tyr's vault!

Nier: Yeah. How many people can say that?

They walk into a room with a sand bowl in the center and a shrine at one part of the room.

Yonah: Another one of these. it's Tyr! But... the middle panel is missing. Wait, I thought Tyr was a god, not a Giant.

Mimir: Aye. But he was loved by everyone, including the Giants. Other than me, he was the only one they gifted with their special sight. Hey... I wonder if the Giants left a  triptych about me somewhere too?

Nier: Well, we better get to finding that rune.

Nier and Yonah go to the bowl in the center of the Rune.

Mimir: Where did you two learn how to read these runes?

Yonah: Our mom taught us.

Nier: Yeah. She said we'll find stuff like this should we ever explore all of Midgard on day. Who'd of thought that day would be sooner than we though.

Yonah gets to the bowl and Nier was about to pick her up, but a scent flows in the air.

Yonah: Brother?

Nier: Yonah, do you smell something?

Yonah sniffs and does smell a strange scent.

Yonah: Yeah, I do. Smells like-- rain?

Suddenly, lightning strikes the bowl and knocks the siblings down. Modi then appears and shoots lightning at Nier.

Modi: You ruined everything. I earned that fucking hammer, but now everyone's gonna think I only got it 'cause Magni's gone. I'll be a joke.

Nier struggles to get up due to the constant pain Modi is inflicting on him.

Modi: But if I kill you--  no one's gonna laugh at me.

Yonah gets up and forms her before shooting. But Modi deflects it with his shield.

Yonah: Leave us alone!

Modi: Can't do that little girl. You two caused my brother to die.

Yonah: You and him attacked us first!

Modi: It's a cycle. But that's something we have to live with. And unfortunately for you two, it's going to be a full circle.

Yonah charges at Modi, but he knocks her to the side with his shield.

Modi: Tenacious as hell. Odin's gonna like you. And I'm gonna get to know you very well. After I'm finished killing your brother. I'll give you a taste of what you put me through.

Modi intensifies the lighting and Nier struggles to avoid collapsing.

Nier POV

The pain. It was like burns are appearing through my entire body. But I see look of fear on Yonah. And hearing what Modi said he planned to do. I then have a memory of my past life. My sister. Her smile, her laughter, the last look on her when she died because of the gods. I couldn't let that happen. If it meant preventing that, then let me lose myself to the rage!

Nier: RRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!

No POV

A blast of fire emerges from Nier and he ends up changing into something larger and more fearsome.

Nier charges at Modi and grab his mace before knocking his shield away and punching him into a wall. Nier then discards the mace as Modi struggles to stand.

Modi: No... No... This isn't over.

Modi limps as he tries to get away as fast as he can.

Mimir: Brother... the girl!

Nier turns see Yonah on the ground and with burns on her skin. He was horrified and ends up reverting back to his original self as he runs up to her

Nier: Yonah...

Mimir: You have to get her to Emil and Hera quickly! There's no other way.

Nier nods as he picks Yonah up and carries her back to the boat. He gently puts her in there and begins rowing as fast as he can.

Mimir: Hera isn't far.

Nier: I... I did this. This is my fault.

Mimir: What matters is that we help her.

Nier: Right.

Nier continues rowing and notices that the skin around Yonah's eyes are starting to turn pale. He knows that this is his fault. He can't let her die. He can't let the last member of his family die because of him. They get to the pier leading to Chaurli and Nier carries Yonah. He goes to the elevator and activates it before they hear the horn blowing.

Mimir: Somebody just called the serpent.

Nier: Yes.

Nier carries Yonah and begins to run through the levels.

Nier: Yonah's burning up. She's shaking.

Mimir: It's serious. We must hurry.

Nier then runs to the door starts kicking on it.

Nier: Emil! Hera! We need your help! Don't you hear me?! It's urgent. It's Yonah, she's fallen ill!

Something moves and breaks some things before the door opens and reveals to be Emil. He then goes to the siblings and puts his hand on Yonah's forehead.

Emil: Inside.

Nier follows him and puts Yonah on the bed next to the fireplace. Hera then looks and is worried.

Hera: What happened?!

Nier: We got attacked. I lost control. Yonah got hurt.

Emil: I can help. But I don't know what's with her eyes or why she's so pale.

Hera: This is no ordinary illness. Her true nature fights within her.

Emil: Why is this happening now? She was healthy the last time we saw her.

Hera: There was a protection spell on her. It helped prevent her body and mind from fighting each other. But now that spell was broken.

Nier remembers what Mimir said about Yonah having a protection spell cast on her. He then realizes that the flames that emerged from him must've been what broke it.

Nier: I did this to her. Please, help me.

Emil: Of course.

Emil then looks to Hera.

Emil: Mom, please. They're our friends.

Hera takes a second before kneeling down and putting her hand on Yonah.

Hera: I know. There's a rare ingredient found only in Helheim. The keeper that protects the Bridge of the Damned... We need its heart.

Nier: Hel.

Emil: The Realm of the Dead.

Nier: I heard the name, but I don't actually know it.

Hera: it is a land of unyielding cold. Fires cannot burn there, and no magic in all the nine realms can create a blaze. As for the dead... your frost weapons will be useless against them. You'll need to find something else.

Nier thinks for a second and remembers one thing that can help.

Nier: I then I must return home... dig up a past that I regret. That I wanted to stay buried before I even new what it actually was.

Hera: Who you were before doesn't matter. This girl is not your past, she's your sister. And she needs her brother.

Hera's hand then glows and she traces something on Nier's hand.

Hera: This rune opens the bridge to Helheim. When you are there, do not under any circumstances cross the Bridge of the Damned. There is no road back. Understand?

Nier nods as Yonah groans and Emile goes to grab some herbs.

Emil: Heimili!

Chaurli then begins to rise.

Emil: Through our garden there's a path leading to our. Take it. Get what you need, just bring us back the Bridge keeper's heart. Then Yonah can survive.

Nier nods and begins to walk away, but stops for a second.

Nier: Hera. I'm sorry, for everything I've done in my past. I mean it.

Hera: ...Olympus' reign is over. Maybe it was something the world needed. Besides, many made their choice before the box was opened. I will help your sister survive this. That's a mother's promise.

Nier leaves the house and walks to a river.

Mimir: Helheim of all places. Are you alright brother?

Nier: I will do what I must. I promised Mom and Dad that no matter what happens, I will protect Yonah with my life.

Mimir: Understand. Also, about that form you took on--

Nier: I would prefer not to talk about it.

Mimir: As you wish.

Nier makes it to a boar that has many leaves and flowers attached before he get in and pushes away from the pier. He then looks down and sees his hands. As the boat goes further down the stream, he looks up and sees an image of Athena. He can't tell if it's a hallucination or real, but he still doesn't like it.

Nier: Athena. Get out of my head.

Soon the image disappears and Nier arrives at an area close to the cabin. He docks the boat and gets off before running to his home. He arrives at the cabin and enters it. Nier then looks at the carpet before moving it and opening the compartment. He then takes out a folded red cloth and puts it on the ground. The boy unfold it and sees two cracked blades that have a skull-like design at the top of their hilts.

Nier then touches and traces his fingers on them. He then look at his arms before turning down to see chains that have appeared next to the blades. He grabs the chains and wraps them around his arms as an image of Athena appears in the doorway.

Athena: There's nowhere you can hide, Damocles. Put as much distance between you and the truth as you want, it changes nothing. Pretend to be everything you're not... Warrior... Friend... Brother... but there is one unavoidable truth you will never escape: You cannot change. No matter what incarnation you take. You will always be a monster.

Nier grabs the blades and flames flow through them.

Nier: I know. But I am no one's monster.

Nier walks and passes through the images before several Hel-Walkers head toward him

Mimir: Alright, brother... let' see what those blades can do.

Nier then grabs the blades by the chains and swings them around. The skill and and technique he uses proves that they are his weapons. He takes a swing and decapitates a Hel-Walker. One attempts to charge, but Nier swing his blades down. He then throws and impales them into two Hel-Walkers before swinging them upward and then bringing them down and swinging in a circle. The Hel-Walkers are then wiped out and Nier takes a look at the blades once more.

Mimir: My, yes... those blades will serve quite well in Helheim. Now, I believe I see a door to the Realm Between Realms over there-- in your own front yard no less!

Nier then looks and sees that the realm stones are indeed next to the cabin.

Nier: How have I never noticed that?

Mimir: Take the shortcut back to the realm travel temple. then on to Helheim, yeah?

Nier: Anything for Yonah.

Nier then goes to the stones before holding up the Seed of Yggdrasil and the door assembles itself. Nier then goes through the door, ready to travel to Helheim and retrieve what he needs to save his sister.
