Jessie Shane was alive. I couldn't believe it.

«Well, I guess the cat is out of the bag...» She laughed as if nothing had happened.

«You met your villain, ladies and gentlemen. Now meet your traitor.» Jasmine smiled.

Their smiles used to be something familiar and contagious. Now they were foreign, repulsive and terrifying.

«Why? Why would you do that?» Felicia yelled at Jessie. Jessie shrugged.

«To get the police off my back in case they realised Jax and I killed her parents.» she said this as if it was something so simple, like going to the supermarket to get some chips. «They would rule me out as a suspect and it would help out little grieving Jasmine too.»

«We mourned you! Ben was- is devastated!» I yelled at her. «How could you?» I could feel my voice breaking.

«Quite easily...» The smile never left her lips. It used to be adorable and something that defined her, but now it just creeped us all out.

«Jax, why would you do all that? We were supposed to stick together. We promised.» I croaked.

«Tell that to my bruises. You heard. You never did anything. My family crushed me. They're the ones that broke me. They destroyed my everything. They forced me to show my tattoo. They said they would turn me in and called me a huge disappointment. They weren't even surprised. That's when dear old mommy spilled the secret; she ain't my mommy.» Jax rambled.

«I thought you were just fighting! You never said anything!»

«Whatever the case, unfortunately for you, guys, you really are going to die. No faking your deaths or anything... What can I say? You digged into something you should have left alone. I was actually going to kill only the savior, not the rest of you, but now...» Jasmine cringed.

«Jax, pull yourself together! Listen to what you're saying!» Jon yelled at her.

«Oh, I am. I've been thinking over how this discussion would go for weeks. I really wanted to see your reactions to this...»

«On three.» Kyle mouthed. I nodded slightly to show him that I got the message. Jasmine pulled out a knife, one that looked just like the one she had used to stab me.

«Three!» I shrieked and we all made for the door, running. Jax and Jessie didn't follow us, which meant we had to be worried.

To quote the Doctor, if something's not chasing you, it means that it has no reason to run in order to get you.

After running for about half an hour, everyone went to their house. The girls wouldn't try anything yet. They would want to catch us off guard.

I opened the door and walked in my house with tears in my eyes.

«Finally, I had started to get- What's wrong?» Claire asked.

«Did you know about Jasmine?» I asked her quietly.

«Know what about Jasmine?» she asked confusedly. «Is she okay?»

«Oh, of course. She's more than okay. Actually, I just found out we're related. Did you know she is our sister? Is that why mom and dad left?» I asked her again.

«What?! This is a joke, right? Is it April Fool's again, already?» she chuckled. She really had no idea.

«No, it's not. Jasmine is my twin sister. She found her adoption papers.» I told Claire seriously.

«It can't be. I would have known if mom and dad were expecting twins.»

«Is that why they never said why they were leaving, either? Mom and dad kept more secrets than we thought.» I shrugged. «I'm going to take a nap. The others will be here at around six. We're having a sleepover.» I explained and ran upstairs.

We had all decided we wouldn't tell our families anything yet, to protect them. I know that sounds stupid and cliché, but you saw what happened with us. Jessie and Jax had done some pretty dark stuff. We couldn't go around telling people about all that. They wouldn't believe us, anyway. Jessie was supposed to be dead.

I climbed out to my thinking spot and sat in the corner of the wall. I leaned my head against the bars and cried.

Look, you might think that saviors and heroes are supposed to be brave. That they don't cry or hurt, but guess what? We're human and last time I checked tears and pain are part of all that. We might have a high tolerance for that, but we still experience them. We're no better than everyone else. Were just people that had a title shoved down our throats and were expected to act like it.

I sat there and thought of everything that had led up to this point. When you think about it after you've seen the consequences and everyone's side of the story, you can't help but say that everything was there from the beginning. Every hint, every clue pointing towards the disaster you failed to see coming. Every single time. And every time you are just as surprised.

You never see the plot twist, until it's too late. I hate that.

The others came a few hours later. We didn't talk about what had happened, because Claire and Ben could hear us and we didn't want to tell them all that yet.

Instead, we tried to talk about something more cheerful; the twins' birthday.

We only had two days left to plan a party so awesome that would make them forget all that stuff with Jax and Jessie. That was a promise and, unlike Jax, I was willing to keep it.

Little did I know, she had promised something to herself and she kept that promise too.

Claire was worried about me. She didn't say anything, but it showed. She wanted to spend more time with me and kept giving me worried looks. She didn't seem to believe that Jax was our sister, but I didn't blame her.

The day of the party arrived sooner than we had expected. Everything was planned out, but, unfortunately, it wasn't a surprise party.

I had called the twins in the morning to wish them "happy birthday", despite attending the party later. All the planning had gotten our minds off the girls and their betrayal.

Jon and Kyle had gotten dressed and had come over my house so we would all go to the party together.

There was only one problem; I had procrastinated choosing what to wear to the point I had no idea what I was going to wear. What a classic!

Jon freaked when I opened the door and was still in my pajamas. Kyle burst out laughing, then got really serious and made a rude gesture at me. Which I made back.

«Jinx, what the hell?» Kyle exclaimed.

«Let me explain. Even though I doubt it will make a difference. As a matter of fact, it will probably make things worse on my part... Anyway, I didn't want to go through my wardrobe and procrastination payed me a visit. Oh, look! There she goes out the door!» I smiled cheekily.

«You're dead...» Jon hissed. He grabbed me by the waist and started tickling me, and I have to say that I'm pretty ticklish.

«No! Stop it!» I giggled. Ben's head appeared at the stairs to check what the hell was going on and then disappeared again.

«Nope. Never. You're going to die of laughter, literally.»

«Let her go... This is just making us even later than we already are.» Kyle said.

«Yeah... let me... go!» I kept laughing. When Jon let me go, I made another rude gesture at him and ran upstairs to get ready.

Claire was more than glad to help me out, which meant I wasn't allowed to wear jeans. She never lets me go somewhere casually. I always have to be dressed to impress.

We settled for a dress, as I couldn't change her mind. It was down to my knees, baby-blue coloured and with a thin black belt around the waist. Simple and casual, but it was a dress, so Claire couldn't really say anything.

But I had to wear sandals... She wouldn't hear a word.

I wrapped a bandage around my tattoo before Claire or anyone else saw it.

Kyle left as I was putting my shoes on. He said he would go explain Felicia and Chris what was going on. I still had to brush my hair and teeth.

«Ponytail?» Claire suggested.

«Nope. They're staying down.» I replied. She looked disappointed at that, but didn't say anything again, because she knew how much I hated the sandals.

«Are you done?» Jon yelled from downstairs.

«Wait a minute.» I yelled back as I tried to brush my hair. And then the brush got stuck. «Make that two!» I added. He facepalmed so hard I heard him.

«Do you need any help?» he asked. Somehow, he had come upstairs.

«N--» he didn't let me finish. He grabbed the stuck brush and tried to untangle it. «Ouch!»

«Shut up...» he muttered as he attempted to get the poor brush out of my hair. Surprisingly, he did it.

«Thanks...» I told him.

«Your welcome.» he replied.

I went back to making my hair presentable, and we left a couple minutes later.

The front door at the twins' house had been left opened. I shot Jon a suspicious glance, which he returned, and we walked in.

Music was still blaring from the speakers in the living room, but something was wrong. There was no one in sight.

Random thought I had at that moment: I should start going out only while carrying a knife or dagger.

We arrived slowly to the kitchen, and that's when we heard the sobbing. That was before we saw the blood.

We went inside and found Chris holding his half-dead sister, while Kyle was crying over her. The kitchen had turned into a pool of blood.

«What happened?» Jon yelled.

«Jessie.» was all Kyle managed to croak through his sobs.

«No. I refuse to believe that. No.» I shook my head. Before I knew it, I was crying on Jon's shoulder. Not that I had intended to, he was the person closest to me. He hugged me tightly.

«No!» Chris screamed as Felicia's head turned lifelessly and fell on his knee. Kyle went paler than he already was. His eyes followed something up the ceiling and then he looked down and sobbed again.

The ambulance arrived soon. So did the police. Kyle had called them when he arrived at the house and saw Felicia.

Chris explained to us what had happened. Their parents were at work and would come later for the party, so they were cleaning a bit up again. Ellie had gone to the kitchen to get the snacks, when Chris heard something break and a loud noise. He ran to the kitchen and barely got a glance of an, unsurprisingly smiling, Jessie as she got out of the window. His sister was lying on the ground, bleeding, with a shattered glass bowl next to her.

Only one thing really mattered, though. Felicia Berley was dead and it was all Jessie and Jasmine's fault.

Jessie might have been alive, but the Jessie we knew and loved had died on that kitchen floor a month ago.
