{×~1~×}

After school we all ran back to our homes. We didn't have class the next day. The next day was the day society put a label on us. There was no need for school that day. Someone else was doing its job.

We all met up at the coffee shop next to Jon's house. We didn't order anything. We were all thinking the same thing.

«Whatever happens tomorrow, we won't break apart. Okay?» Felicia said at some point.

«We've known each other for years. Labels won't get us at each other's throats, right?» Kyle asked.

«I hope so... Labels are the first thing people see. It's what defines you these days.» Jasmine replied.

«We're a family. We are going to be there for each other.» Jon said.

«You know what? We don't have to tell each other what we get. We don't have to tell anyone. Nothing's going to change. It will be as if it never happened. Besides, the law states that underage citizens can't be forced to show their tattoos and whoever disobeys this can get up to five years in jail.» Chris suggested. Sometimes I thought that Chris should be a lawyer, but then he returned to his normal self and it just wasn't right...

«That's actually not a bad idea...» I muttered.

«Wow, Chris! You actually did it for once! You said something smart!» Jessie joked.

«Rude.» he told her.

«Did anyone call me?» I interrupted and we all laughed.

«Okay, seriously now. Are we really going to do that?» Jasmine asked when we caught our breaths.

«I say we do.» Jon replied. We all nodded.

«Repeat after me; I shall not reveal my fate unless I want to and I shall not turn against someone else because of what they are.» Felicia said and raised her hand as if she was making an oath.

We followed her example and the rest of the day went smoothly. It was just another normal day.

Deep inside, though, we all knew this promise wasn't going to be kept by everyone. We didn't want to believe it, but we knew it.

The next day came quickly. We were kinda separated because we went to different centers depending on our birth date for the ceremony. Everyone who had their birthday before the ceremony, like Kyle and Jessie, went to a different building than Jon, Felicia, Chris, Jasmine and me, who hadn't had our birthdays yet.

Jasmine, the twins, Jon and I were all in the same part of the building, because we were from the same neighborhood.

Felicia and Chris were the first to find out their fates because they were twins and there's this complication with twins, as I already mentioned. They came out with confused looks. They didn't say anything.

Next was Jasmine. She went inside. I had a talk with Jon. We were the only ones left.

«What do you think you will get?» he asked.

«I don't know. Does it really matter? I'm still going to be me. You're still going to be you. Everyone will still be the same. This is just stupid.» I replied in frustration.

«You have a point, but we have those hidden tattoos for a reason. They're a warning for what is going to follow.» he shrugged.

«Do we really have to know? Why can't the future be unpredictable? Why can't we make our own story? Why do we have to be labeled like that and turned into a stereotype?» I asked. He didn't reply. I sighed.

«You sure overthink stuff.» he laughed.

«It's my job. How the hell do you expect me to have a comeback for everything if I don't think of every possible scenario?» I replied.

Jasmine came out. She looked rather upset. She tried to hide it and left in a rush to go back home. She didn't say anything either.

I gave Jon a worried look.

The Fatereader came outside. he had honey blond hair and seemed to be in his early 30s.

«Jonathan Blake?» he called.

«And that's my queue. See you on the other side.» Jon told me and went in the room.

I waited and I waited. A good twenty minutes later, he opened the door and approached me looking a little more content than the others.

«Everything okay?» I asked.

«Yep.» he replied.

«Are you telling me what you are any time soon?» I asked hopefully.

«Nope.» he smirked.

«Can you wait for me outside? I don't wanna return alone and Jasmine probably left with Felicia and Chris.» I asked him.

«That, I can do.» he laughed and went downstairs.

«Are you Jinx Raven?» the Fatereader asked. I nodded and followed him in the room.

It was larger than I had imagined. There were colorful cushions everywhere on the floor and there was a fireplace burning in a corner. There were no windows. It was really hot in there.

«Have a sit.» he told me and I sat on a black cushion, cross-legged. I was really nervous, more than I let on. «My name is Cole Daniel and you have nothing to be afraid off. Just pull up your left sleeve.» he instructed me. I did as he said and pulled my sleep up to my elbow.

He picked up a vial from next to him. It was filled with something that looked like water.

He opened it and let two drops roll on my forearm.

The liquid turned a shiny blue and started revealing a word on my arm. I looked at it curiously. Soon, the word was complete and when that happened, the tattoo turned a navy blue colour and I could clearly see what was written.

«You have to be kidding me.» I shook my head. I was in shock. «Can I get a refund?»

«Good one. I've seen lots of reactions from kids your age today and yours is by far the best.»

«Seriously. I don't want this. Erase it and give me another one.» I told him.

«No can do. This tattoo is part of your DNA. It has been since before you were born. I just made it show. You can't change fate.»

«Yeah? Watch me.» I retorted and stood up to leave.

«You can't leave yet. I have to explain to you what your tattoo means.»

«Ha! Good one. I already know. This tattoo is what marks my early death. This tattoo means trouble and attention. I don't want any of that. Goodbye!» I faked excitement. He rolled his eyes.

«Whatever. If you ever need any explaining, give me a call.» he said and gave me a card.

«Yeah... Don't hold your breath.» I replied and left the room.

Out of all the people that I saw getting out of that room, I must have been looking the bitterest.

«Is everything okay?» Jon asked.

«Does everything look okay?»

«Got it. Do you wanna talk about it?»

«Nope. Let's just go home... I'm exhausted and I need pizza and a movie marathon.» I replied.

«Can't argue with that...»

He said and we left that place.

That day I swore that I would never set my foot into that place again, but I'm not really that good at keeping promises now, am I?

We invited the others over too, but they couldn't make it because they wanted to think about their tattoos.

My sister chose the movies. Jon ordered the pizza. Ben brought the snacks. I brought the blankets and the pillows. Jessie decided she would sleep over at Jasmine's.

This was going to be a long night.

Claire and Ben sat on the couch. Jon and I sat on the blankets on the floor. It was comfortable.

My sister ended up falling asleep on her fiancé twenty minutes in. Jon fell asleep on my shoulder three movies later. I fell asleep on his head soon after.

Ben gave up when he saw we were all sleeping and took my sister to bed, right after throwing a blanket over me and Jon.

The next morning I woke up cuddled against Jon. I didn't freak out, as we had grown up together and we all always had sleepovers, but I did push him off of me and got up. Claire and Ben were still sleeping and Jessie hadn't come back yet.

«Hey! Wake up you stupid monkey!» I whispered to my friend. He grumbled in his sleep. I rolled my eyes. «Wake up before I empty a bucket of water over you head.» I hissed. He grumpily opened his eyes.

«What do you want?» he asked.

«Breakfast. I can't reach the bowls for the cereal and I'm too bored to climb in a chair.» I told him.

«What do you do when I'm not around, shortie?» he asked without getting up.

«I wake Ben up. And I'm not short, you're just taller than me.» I replied. He shook his head, laughing, and stood up. We went to the kitchen.

He just stood there without opening the cupboard.

«What are you waiting for, monkey? A special invitation? Open the bloody cupboard and give me two bowls.» I told him. He smirked.

«What did you call me?» he asked.

«I called you a monkey, now give me two bowls.» I said.

«Nope. What's my name?» he asked again.

«Francis.» I smirked.

«Don't Deadpool me.» he laughed.

«Just give me the bowls, you stupid monkey!» I laughed along.

«Fine, but you're not calling me monkey again!» he said.

«No can do. Monkey is your nickname now. It stuck. You're never gonna get rid of it.» I shook my head. He groaned and gave me the two bowls. «Finally! I'm starving.»

We poured down some cereal and went back to the living room to watch some morning TV.

«How did you sleep?» Jon asked.

«Not so well.» I replied.

«Why? Was I kicking you again?»

«That too, but mostly some weird dreams.» I shrugged.

«Do you want to talk about it, Jinxie?»

«Nah, not really.»

«Are you sure?»

«Yep.»

After the Revealing Ceremony, there are 10 days off of school, so we were all going to make the most out of it.

Because, damn school, that's why.

School years are weird in comparison to yours. After we have the revealing ceremony, we get ten days off school, like I said. When that's done, there's a week when we all get informed on what each of the fates mean, even though we already know that stuff. And then, summer break. Three months of peace and quiet and no fear of detention.

Unless you're me. From the moment I saw my tattoo, I knew things weren't going to end well. I knew I was doomed.

I am the type of person that doesn't get a happy ending. I have to make all the sacrifices. I have to die in the end and leave everything and everyone I care about behind. I wanted to write history and I was being given the chance to do so. All that scared the hell out of me.

You probably already guessed that, but I am the savior. I hate that bloody tattoo on my forearm. I hate the labels forced upon us all.

And the worst part, I couldn't trust anyone, because anyone could be the villain and they wouldn't be stupid enough to tell me that.

Being the savior was terrifying. Everyone's fate was on my hands. There was such a thin line between savior and villain. Betrayal was a game. An easy one, I may add.

You never knew where it would come from and when it came, you were shocked.

Those were dark times for Moiral and no one was ready for what followed.

A/N: Yay!!! What a happy tone this book starts on!

How do you like Jinx? I know it's early, but how do you like the characters in general? Do you have any ships?

What kind of secrets do you think are buried? What? I deserve to foreshadow stuff a bit.

Actually, scratch that. I foreshadow everything. If extreme foreshadowing was a crime, I would be facing a death sentence and there is no death sentence in Greece. That's banned.

Anyway... How did we get from buried secrets to the death sentence in Greece?

Oh boy...

Goodbye for now, see you on the next chapter!!!
