Just friends

'So that was awkward,' I commented silently.

"So," I said, desperately wanting to break the tension in the room "your brothers seem nice."

"There imbeciles" Damian stated bluntly his eyes were annoyed, I suddenly realized that I always refer to his eyes. Whenever something happens to him I always end up staring back at his eyes. I'm a little confused about why. Maybe because that was the only way to actually see what he's feeling.

"Right..." I answer half distracted, they were pretty, his eyes I mean.

For some reason, the silence was comforting.

We began discussing the project, we decided on what materials we can use and what to draw. Damian was very talented in artistic drawings. I suggested an angel, Damian mumbled that it should be a demon. We ended up compromising with a half drawing of both as if they were both staring in the mirror to their other half. Time passed very quickly by the end of it and before I knew it, I was leaving the household waving Alfred goodbye. My back was itching slightly, indicating that it was time again. I shifted uncomfortably and started to run down the street. Alfred had offered me a ride home but I really didn't want them to know I lived alone. They would have asked too many questions.

Entering my run-down apartment building I sat down in the lobby ignoring my back completely, it didn't hurt that much yet.

"(Y/N)!" I turned my head to see the building manager come to stand in front of me. "Where are your parents?"

"Oh!" I exclaimed, "at work," I lied easily, everyone here is an idiot, you really can't notice when a child's alone? Maybe he just doesn't care as long as he gets his money. Everyone here is a criminal anyway.

The manager, what's his name? I can never remember, gave an annoyed grunt, "Well next time you see them tell them their behind on the rent."

"Will do," I said, forcing a smile on my face, DANG now I have to find more money or I'll get kicked out.

Well, I'll leave tomorrow's problems for tomorrow's me. I made it up to my room and collapsed onto my bed. Sleep came quickly.

——Time skipped——

I woke up to 18 missed text messages from (B/F).

Where r u?

You promised you'd come!

I grabbed my phone tiredly.

Come where?

She answered right away.

My party!

Crap so that's what I agreed to a couple of days ago. Before I could decline (B/F) sent out a string of texts with threats of every kind.

I guess I got no choice.

I flipped through my drawers looking for something clean to wear. I settled on a black T-shirt, some greyish jeggings, and my normal sneakers.

Ponytail or hair down?

Eh who cares, I put/let my hair (YOU PICK). I grabbed my bag to shove my crap into and started to head over. Why do I let myself get dragged into these things?

I double-check the address, why is it too far to walk to, I'm broke so no Taxi. I feel almost relieved, time to head back home!

HONK

I jumped, surprised, and looked around uneasily, who?

"Hey (Y/N)!" What a familiar voice, I find the source and smile.

"Hi, Dick!"

It's Dick grinning his head off with an annoyed looking Damian in the front seat. He huffed and looked away.

"Where are you heading to?"

"Oh! Um, a party" I answered.

"Cool! That's where I'm dragging Damian too! Need a ride?"

Bold of you to assume it's the same party.

"Yeah, thanks!" I smile, hopping into the back seat, I place my bag next to me and get comfy.

An Imagine Dragons song was on and Dick was happily humming/singing it in a loud tune. He used his steering wheel as a drum.

"So..." I tried to talk over the music, "I didn't know you were coming"

"I wasn't going too," Damian sighed, "but he found the invitation and is forcing me."

"I didn't really want to come either, but (B/F) is forcing me"

He nodded and turned to face the front again apparently bored with the conversation. I huffed a little, remembering how annoying he could be in that matter. Turning my attention to the window, I watched the buildings blur by and tuned out Dick monstrous karaoke, it really gets old fast.

We turned the corner and Dick lowered the music.

"We're here!" he smiled happily, "have fun guys!"

Holy crap it was crowded. I felt anxiety pooling in, I've never really liked parties, especially when all the cars are squished in a very dangerous line, people drunkenly fall on the lawn and the music is so loud police become a concern.

Nope, I'm out.

"Actually, I think a changed my-"

Damian got out, opened my door, and pulled me out violently. His lips go to my ear, his breath stings there.

"If I have to suffer, you're going down with me."

Well crap... I'm going to ignore the fact we're holding hands.

We enter and things are more chaotic than ever.

We hasn't he let go yet?

The lights, blinding, the music pounding, no... is that the music or my heart?

Why haven't I pulled away yet?

People are swarming like ants.

How long are we going to stand here?

He started to pull me to a corner, I used my other hand to shield my eyes from the lights.

How did she get this many lights?

It hurts.

"What does?"

Damian looks concerned, was that out loud?

"It was."

I can't even hear myself think, much less talk.

He nods and points to an empty space in one of the hallways.

Our hands are still touching.

Damian blushes, that was out loud wasn't it?

He didn't let go anyway.

He leads me to the blissful corner in this hell filled ant farm.

His grip just tightened.

The door closes behind us, no more lights, the sound is still loud but more bearable. I can think, I can breathe.

He lets go. My hand misses his warmth and it feels like something is missing from it. I look at him and his eyes meet mine, they're different, there not cold or intimidating. They're soft, almost... blue? Weren't they gray?

He sits on the bed and pats the emptiness next to him. I take the hint and sit, we talk about the project, then school, our friends...

"I don't have any friends" Blunt, feelingless.

"Why not?"

"I just don't see the point in them."

"The point is not to be lonely."

"I don't get lonely,"

"I don't believe you."

He meets my gaze, the music changes again, the DJ announces something.

I get up.

"Dance with me,"

"I don't dance."

"Not even with me?"

I pull him up and he twirls me. I rest my hands on his shoulders and he puts his hands on my hips and we sway. The music fades away, but we follow our own song.

"I can be your friend,"

"Okay"

I smile.

___A/N___
