The code from the father
Word Count: 889
"What the heck did he say?" Damian shouted over the sound of Jason's motorcycle. He clung onto his shirt and moved closer to his mouth to hear the response.
"Don't know they didn't tell me" he cried back, "just said they received a message and that we should come immediately, then they hung up."
"And that didn't seem even the tiniest bit suspicious for you?" Damian answered angrily, "That they randomly received a message from father, and didn't go into any detail whatsoever!"
"I was in too much shock to think it through!"
"Dumbass!"
With another reave, they entered the Batcave once more the familiar darkness overwhelmed the two boys before the artificial lights turned on. Letting a dim light, beam on the path, as the entrance finally came into view. They hopped off the back, running into the zeta beam that would lead them to the watchtower.
"Red Hood *A30*" He shouted out, and the light carried them upward to the watchtower above.
----
The league was gathered there, confusion along with worry gathered on there faces.
"Well, what was the message?" Robin asked, he was still in his civilian clothes, there was no time to change, and now Damian felt uncomfortable. He was among costumed heroes after all, and here he was in sweatpants.
"That happens to be the problem..."
"How is that a problem!" Jason growled advancing towards the screen, his red t-shirt standing out among the spandex.
"Because it's-"
"In code," Jason finished with a sigh "of course it's in code."
Damian started walking to the screen to catch a glimpse of the mismatch letter that appeared before him.
"ZKHUH WKH WZR VRQV PHHW" It was written in all caps and stood out more than the small hint underneath that Damian almost overlooked, almost. "The start of the first and the last son."
"The start of the first and the last son?" Damian asked confused, "what does that mean?" he grabbed a pad from the desk and wrote down both messages.
"We have no idea," Superman answered, "but we are looking into this."
"Really? And how hard are you looking?" Jason snorted out.
"We do have our city to protect."
"Asshole" Jason growled out, "you're not trying at all."
"I assure you, we are," Wonder Woman explained, "we are doing all we can."
Damian couldn't hear more of this, he spun on his heel right towards the zeta beams. He didn't need them, he would find his father on his own. He would solve the riddle, he would save his family, and he didn't need anybody else.
"He-Hey!" Jason called out, "Damian!" His footsteps echoed after him.
They Justice League watched as they disappeared into the beam.
"Do you think they'll be ok?" Flash asked worriedly.
"I have a bad feeling..." Superman told him "that if they keep meddling they won't be."
----
"Hey wait up!"
Damian stomped on, throwing himself onto the bat-computer chair.
"I recognized this code right away" He explained.
"You did?" Jason asked curiously.
"It's a simple code, yet complicated at the same time, It's called the Atbash code, but with a gentle twist, instead of being backward like normal, it starts at any letter and continues on. For example, if I start by, let's say 'P', 'P' becomes the equivalent for 'A', 'Q' becomes the equivalent for 'B' and so on. What makes it so complicated is that you can start at any letter in the alphabet. I think that's why Father left the second clue."
"The second clue?"
"Didn't you see, it was right underneath 'The start of the first and the last son.'. That's no code, it's a riddle, which I would guess is the answer to which letter comes first."
"Whoa"
"Yes, father is quite intelligent, isn't he?" Damian sighed "the only problem is I have no idea what the answer is. What could he mean?"
Jason took a seat next to Damian, deep in thought.
"Hey, Demon Spawn,"
"What?"
"What I'm wondering if you recognize it right away, shouldn't at least one member of the Justice League had recognized it as well."
"I'd assume so..."
"So then, why didn't they say so to being with, couldn't they have just tried every letter? They should be able to-"
"I don't think you understand how long that would take."
"That's not my point Damian, don't you remember what they said?, 'We have no idea,' 'we are doing all we can.' don't you think it's odd that they wouldn't know?"
Damian sat there for a second, deep in thought, something wasn't right here. Yes, something was horribly wrong with this picture. And the Justice League was holding the camera.

Sorry that this chapters short.
Esh, Imma be completely honest with you, I have no idea what I'm writing, I started with a code that I did not plan out. Finally planned that out, then I made a conspiracy with the JL that I did not plan on doing. 😓
Why did I make myself a mystery I have no answer to? 😓 😓
Somethings wrong with me, that's for sure. Whenever I write I kinda just, Idk, let the words write themselves. If you get what I mean. Which is how I get my stories in a real Pickle. 😓😓😓
Anyway, Open to suggestions. 😅
