Chapter Thirty-Four: Scrap

Tracking Sam was harder than I thought, his habits were different now, and I didn't really know him that well. Dean knew his brother, what he would do, what car he picked, the hotel he's staying at. Without a piece of either of them, tracking Sam was going to be hard. Ruby on the other hand, was going to be easy to track. Since placing that curse on her, that I created, I did add in a locator. After all, she was my bitch tethered to me...

Black smoke faded from my vision, and I was met with a hotel door. Room number '523', it was different from the motels they used to stay at. However, Ruby was definitely in there, I can sense my magic.

"Look, let's talk about this," Sam's husky voice pierced my ears, as he was in the room with Ruby and probably his brother.

"Soon as she's dead, we can talk all you want," Dean's angry voice came loud and clear in my ears, he was pissed.

"Ruby, get out of here," Sam spoke, wanting his little demon girlfriend to run. Oh boy that wasn't going to happen. She's a demon, she had her own motives behind this, I just know it.

"No, she's not going anywhere!" Dean was strong in his statement, I even heard him shuffle forward, ready to stop her. Suddenly, rushed footsteps came echoing in my ear, and within a second, the door was ripped open, and her eyes met mine, a smug expression came to my face.

"Hey Bitch," as the smugness was on my face, it was also laced in my voice. However, she didn't have time to react, as I recoiled my hand into a fist and punched her square in the face, and she stumbled back into the room. I swayed my hips into the room, the door shut magically on it's on. My eyes danced between the Winchester men, as they eyed me up.

"Leave her alone," Sam came to Ruby's defense.

"Sam Winchester coming to defend a demon. How... Original," I arched my eyebrow up, my arms crossing over my chest. "Like I said Sam, if you think that letting her go is the right thing to do, say it. I'll break the curse I've placed on her, so I won't know where she goes," my tone was dead serious, she was calling the shots, he was doing this from a place of love and bravery, Killing one dead to stop the end of the world, and save six billion lives is worth it. The path he's chosen to get there might not be right, but it gets it done. I understand that more than most.

"Yes. Let her go," Sam didn't miss a beat, and didn't even take him a fraction of a second to decide her fate. It wasn't the answer I was hoping for, but it was his choice.

"Fine," I said, as I raised my hand and snapped my fingers together, the sound echoed in the room, and I could tell by Ruby's expression the curse was lifted. "You better run, before Dean gets you," I smirked as Dean was giving a death glare. Ruby didn't waste any time, and passed me, opening the hotel door and leaving. The air in the room became silent, it was like a threeway glance, and not the good kind.

"She's poison, Sam!" Dean declares, finding his allowing Ruby to leave a second time was a mistake, and he had a soft spot for her.

"It's not what you think, Dean,"

"Look what she did to you!" Dean raised his voice, and pointed at Sam. "Well, she up and vanishes, weeks at a time, leaving you cracking out for another hit!" Dean was angry, and rightfully so.

"She was looking for Lilith!" Again Sam defended Ruby's actions, but Dean inhaled deeply, knowing that was bullshit.

"That is French for 'manipulating your ass ten ways from Sunday,'"

"You're wrong, Dean,'' Sam was keeping calm, not wanting to blow this out of proportion.

"Sam, you're lying to yourself," Dean took a few steps closer to Sam, as they were up on the platform that laid to the bed in the middle of the room. "I just... want you to be ok. You would do the same for me. You know you would," Dean was trying to be reasonable with Sam, trying to let him see the error of his ways.

"Just listen, Dean," Sam's voice was soft and low, as he realized he had Ruby's knife in his hand before he looked at it, and threw it on the bed. wanting to talk peacefully. "Just listen for a second, we got a lead on a demon close to Lilith. Come with us, Dean. We'll do this together," Sam was opting for Dean to agree and go with them.

"That sounds great," Dean announces, but I felt a 'but' coming. "As long as it's you and me. Demon bitch is a deal breaker. You kiss her goodbye we can go right now," Sam wasn't pleased with the arrangement, he needed Ruby - which was bizarre.

"I can't... Dean, I need her -- to help me kill Lilith," Dean wasn't happy with his reply, as he shook his head and turned away from him. He placed right hand over his mouth, not believing he would trust a demon over his own brother. "I know you can't wrap your head around it, but maybe, one day. You'll understand," Sam opened his mouth to speak again, but let out a sigh, thinking of his words carefully. "I'm the only one who can do this Dean," Dean didn't like the answer, as he spun around, to face his brother once again.

"No, you're not the one who's gonna do this,"

"Right, that's right. I forgot. The Angels think it's you,"

"You don't think I can?"

"No. You can't," Sam wasn't sugar coating this. All I could do was watch this interaction between brothers, and remain quiet. "You're not strong enough,"

"And who the hell are you?" Dean barked at the end of his sentence.

"I'm being practical here. I'm doing what needs to be done," Sam announces, what he's doing is right to him, the only path he can take for the best outcome.

"Yeah? You're not gonna do a single damn thing,"

"Stop bossing me around, Dean!" Sam snapped back, his voice raised. The air was getting intense, and I could feel a fight coming on. "Look. My whole life you take the wheel, you call the shots. And I trust you because you are my brother. Now, I am asking you, for once... Trust me," this was better than a TV show right now, the emotion, the intense fight. Sam was inhaling some deep breaths as the air was silent, I could see Dean already shaking his head before he was going to open his mouth.

"No," he finally said, that single word crushed Sam. "You don't know what you're doing, Sam,"

"Yes, I do," he snapped back.

"Then that's worse!"

"Why? Look, I'm telling you --"

"Because it's not something that you're doing! It's what you are!" Dean's voice kept its angry raised tone. "It means..." Dean held back, not wanting to go all the way in his statement.

"What?" Sam asked innocently, but even from here, I could see the cogs turning and him working it out what his brother truly meant. "No," where I was standing I could see the hurt on Sam's face, and the tears swelling in his eyes. "Say it," he wanted to hear Dean speak the words, and to see if he would.

"It means you're a monster," Dean laid the words out for Sam, and it broke him. I wouldn't have thought in a million years Dean would be telling his brother this. My eyes glanced at Dean just in time to see a tear run down his left cheek. Suddenly, Sam punches Dean in the face, knocking him clean to the floor with some grunts. Now that was unexpected, but I did feel the tension in the air. So, it was bound to come. Sam was breathing heavily, as he watched his brother rise back to his feet, the death stare he was emitting to his brother was deadly. Just then, Dean drew his fist and struck back, hitting Sam in the face. But then struck again the other way.

"Fighting won't get you nowhere," I raised my voice high enough for them to hear, but they continued to fight. Not heeding my words. Dean had kicked Sam towards the bathroom, but he recovered quickly, and got the upperhand on Dean, and began to beat the shit out of him. I shook my head with each punch Sam laid on his brother, and the next thing I hear is glass smashing. I cock my head to see Dean face in a mirror. "Seven years of bad luck," I mumbled under my breath. Dean had twisted himself back around, and threw a punch, but Sam dodged and threw Dean through the divider and he landed on the glass table. Even from here he was bloody, and I thought it was over. Sam descended through the broken divider and came to stand over his brother. Which lasted a moment, as he gripped his large hands over his throat, and began to squeeze the life out of Dean. Each second that passed, Dean was shifting colors, and his eyes dimming. Sam was really going to do it, kill his own flesh and blood. Something within me felt this as familiar, and I knew I had to do something.

I quickly strode forward, and recoiled my right hand, and struck Sam across the face, and ragged him by the scruff of his shirt, flung him back as he gained air time for a moment, before landing on the bed. But he shook it off and came back to his feet.

"I'm sorry Sam. But I will not stand-by and watch you kill your brother," my words were true, and on some level he knew that.

"You don't know me, neither of you do," his eyes shot from me to his brother, who was still laying on the ground. "You never did. And you never will," he descended down the steps, and headed to the hotel door, ready to leave.

"You walk out that door... Don't you ever come back," Dean wheezed the words out, finding it hard to catch his breath. Sam stopped and looked over to Dean, but knew he had to leave. Sam opened the door, and left, leaving the room quiet. Dean groans as he turns on his side, and my eyes fall down to him.

"I'm sorry Dean," I took a few steps close and cast my gaze down upon him. "Sam made his choice, and it wasn't the right one," but his eyes still held that disgust look in his face, as if I was still the enemy here. "I don't care if you see me as a Demon or a monster. But I do have a heart, and right now it's telling me get you out of here, and help you find Sam. I know you hunt monsters like me, and maybe after all of this I'll let you hunt me," a smile danced across my lips, and I saw a tiny crinkle in the corner of his mouth, as he was reframing himself from smiling. I extended my hand out to him, as his eyes cocked between mine and my hand. "Like I said, trusting me a little, can go a long way," I was hoping he could find it in his heart to put the past, put what I am to the side, and work with me to help him get his brother back, and possibly save the world.

After a few moments of him thinking, he reaches out and grabs my hand, accepting my offer to work together. I gripped his hand tightly, and pulled him to his feet with ease. As this new found partnership will go a long way...

I just hope we find Sam in time.
