Chapter Seventy-Two: Heaven?
The dream I was experiencing was so vivid, as if I was truly there in the room with the boys. It had been a few weeks since I had seen them last. And now I was dreaming about them, it wasn't the sexy type dream, but it was still about them. My sight was upon both Dean and Sam - I was a spectator in this motel room. Two guys held them at gunpoint. There was no audio, their lips moved, but no sound came to my ears.
Suddenly, the man that held Sam at gunpoint shot him, bloo sprouted from the shotgun shells in his chest, and he was shot twice. I let out a painful, ear-piercing scream, the thing was, even that was not audible. I could see him lying on the bed, blood rushing out of him, and I knew he was dead. My sight turned to Dean, and the same guy who shot Sam also shot Dean. Another - non audible - scream left my mouth. Something inside of me shattered, and I felt cold and empty, as if a piece of me died with them.
I shot up from my bed, a cold sweat poured from my forehead, shivers ran down my spine, as I could still feel the emptiness I felt in the dream. My breathing was erratic and I couldn't get it under control. My heart was racing like a race-horse, I could feel it in my throat. It was so real, and it scared me. I fumbled to grab my phone from the bedside table, and went to find Dean's phone number and began to call it. I put the phone to my ear, and hear the dialing tone. It just rang, and rang, until the voicemail came up. Hastily, I brought the phone back into my sights, and tried Sam's number, but again it did the same. I groaned in frustration, and threw my phone on the bed. I swiped my hair from my face, before throwing back the silk covers, and rushing off the bed. I had to find the boys before this came to pass.
The feeling I had, it was like death's cold hand was already clutching at me. And it wasn't going to let me go.
.................
Finding the Winchesters became second nature by now, and seeing the Impala parked in a shabby motel was a sight for sore eyes. I asked at the front desk which room they were in, and went there. All the way there I felt dread, and an uneasy feeling in the pit of my stomach. The feeling I had in the dream lingered with me. I opened the door and entered the room, and my eyes immediately went to the beds, and I saw the legs of Dean and Sam. Each step I took with care, and I came to witness the sight I saw in my dream. I gasped, as my hand flew to my mouth to muffle it. I couldn't believe it, there were no hearts beating. They were truly dead.
"Sam!" I rushed over to Sam, his eyes closed. I grabbed him by his shoulders, and cradled him. "Wake up Sam! Wake up!" My voice trembled, and my heart began to hurt. A sharp pain, a feeling that I hadn't felt since my Mother died. "Wake up!" I shook him but he did not move. Tears began to swell in my eyes, clouding my vision briefly as I blinked the tears away.
Then it struck me. They were too important to be kept dead, the Angels will bring them back. But how long will that take? I couldn't take that chance. I placed Sam back in his position, and moved to get off the bed. Coming to the end of the twin beds, seeing Dean lay on his back. His eyes still open, but lifeless. I couldn't bear to look at him. I held my hands out as if I was holding a book, suddenly, a cloud of black smoke covered my hands and dispersed as quick as it came. Sat in my hands was my Grimoire, I didn't waste any time and ripped open the book. I began to flick through the yellow aged pages to find a spell that I knew was in here. After my Mother's death, I combed through the Grimoire in search for spells that could help me bring her back. But she wasn't into dark magic, she believed in nature and what witches stood for.
Within no time, I found the spell, and held open the book. My eyes scanned the words, as they flicked up to the boys. I was hoping that it would work and I was about to go to the . This was going to take a lot out of me, spells like these always needed more than one witch. It is not without risk. I was willing to go the extra mile for these boys.
Essentially, the spell would stop my heart, connecting me to the spirits of the boys. Wherever they were, I would be able to travel to them. Downside was if they weren't brought back, neither would I. I would be stuck. I'll be defenseless too, no magic, no demonic powers. Just a mortal. I was willing to risk everything for them.
"Audi haec verba, et bene audi," I began the spell, my voice powerful and strong. There was no time to feel bad, as deep down I knew they would come back. "Extremum spiritum offero ut mortis nomen invoco," I chanted the next part of the spell, feeling my heart become off rhyme and begin to slow. "Adiunge me illis quae quaerunt, et perge ad ultimam," my voice rose in volume, and as I pushed myself. The lights in the room began to flicker, as I was having trouble catching my breath. All of a sudden, air was cut from my lungs, and I could no longer breathe. As it was sudden, I dropped my Grimoire out of my hands, and it hit the floor. Black dots danced in my vision, as I tumbled forward, and began to go under. I fell to the ground, between the twin beds. Then death came, and sent me on my way.....
............................
The blinding light that pierced my vision faded, and I was standing in a forest. I inhaled a few times, feeling the air enter my lungs, and my surroundings felt so real. Night was upon me. I twisted on the spot, and in the distance was a house, in the middle of this forest. I found it strange, but in the back of my mind, I knew I had to go there. My feet began to move as I inch closer to the house.
Out of the blue, a blinding light began to roam over the house, a static sound rang in my ears. It looked like a spotlight just beaming on the house. I stopped in my tracks, and hid behind a nearby tree, just in case it took a trip through the forest. After a moment, it vanished from view, meaning whatever it was left. I took off once again, edging closer to the house, and soon enough walked up the porch steps, and came to the front door. I twisted the knob, and pushed open and strolled on in. In the living room, I see the backs of two men.
"Sam! Dean!" My voice was filled with relief, and happiness to see them. They both turned on the spot, and met my gaze - their eyes widening in shock to see me here.
"Abigael?!" Both of them spoke in unison, their voices mixing together.
"You guys die more times than anyone else I know," I remarked as I couldn't rush towards them and hug them. That wasn't me.
"How-How did you get here?" Dean asked the question, dismissing my comment.
"A spell... That killed me," I replied with a sheepishly expression.
"What?!" Sam states wildly, either shocked or not understanding what I meant by my words.
"The spell was supposed to kill me, my body is back down there," I pointed down, gesturing to the real world.
"You do know where you are right?" Dean treaded softly, realizing what I was and what I had done over three centuries.
"If this was Heaven you both be naked," my eyes flicked between brothers as my gaze wandered up and down them as if allured by their manliness. "Of course I know it's Heaven. Just surprised it worked. A demon in Heaven," I cracked a smile, finding humor in this. I would have thought that alarms would have rung out, alerting every Angel in Heaven to a Demon in the place.
"You do have a way back, right?" Dean asked, hoping that I could just magically snap my fingers together and get us all back into our bodies.
"About that," again my expression was sheepish, as Dean threw up his hands in the air.
"Great!" He states, not thrilled as he knew where the conversation was going to go. "Cas!" Dean yells the Angels name, as if to summon him.
"I can hear you," Cas's voice came from behind. On the Tv behind us was Cas's face swirling as the channel wasn't strong.
"Cas? Hey," Dean rushes over to the Tv. "So, uh, so I found Sam, b-but something just happened. There was this weird beam of light –"
"Don't go into the light," Cas cuts Dean hastily off.
"Ok. Thanks... Carol Anne. What was it?"
"Not what – who. Zachariah. He's searching for you," Cas replied, but the Tv flickered and it felt his eyes locked onto me as I was positioned between the brothers. "Abigael?!" Cas sounded shocked to see me standing here. "How are you there? You shouldn't be able to enter Heaven?!" He states wildly, his facial expressions were just all over.
"Later. What will Zachariah do if he finds them?" I got back on track, as we needed a way out.
"You can't say 'yes' to Michael and Lucifer if you're dead, so Zachariah needs to return you to your bodies," Cas explained, as this is what we all wanted, everyone back in their bodies.
"Great. Problem solved," Sam states, his tone filled with relief.
"No, you don't understand. You're behind the wall. This is a rare opportunity," Cas states, wanting us to go on this mission in Heaven.
"For what?" Dean asks.
"You need to find an angel, his name is Joshua," Cas states, the Tv enlarging on his lips, the connection was all fuzzy.
"Hey, man, no offense, but we are kind of ass-full of angels, ok. You find him,"
"I can't," Cas replied to Dean's statement. "I can't return to Heaven,"
"So, what's so important about Joshua?" Sam asked, wanting to know why we had to search for this angel rather than getting back to our bodies.
"The rumor is he talks to God,"
"And? So?"
"You think maybe, just maybe, we should find out what the hell God has been saying?" cas snapped at Dean, really on edge about wanting to know what God has been saying.
"Geez. Touchy," Dean retorted, his eyes traveling to Sam and I, for a moment.
"Please. I just need you to follow the road,"
"What road?" Sam
"It's called the Axis Mundi. It's a path that runs through Heaven. Different people see it as different things. For you, it's two-lane asphalt. The road will lead you to the garden. You'll find Joshua there. And Joshua... He can take us to God," Cas was hopeful in this angel, hoping that he could indeed take us to God, and this could be all sorted. "The Garden... Please, hurry," Cas began to tune out, the signal becoming weak. Then the Tv switches off, leaving us without a guide.
There was a moment of silence, as the brothers exhaled, at the knowledge that we've all learned.
"So, what do you think?" Sam turned his body to look at his brother.
"I think we hit the yellow bricks, find this Joshua cat," Dean replied to Sam's question.
"Really?" Sam seemed surprised at Dean's willingness to seek Joshua, and find God.
"What, you don't?" Dean replied, offering a confused expression as he would have thought Sam would be on board too.
"No, I, uh, I'm just surprised you do. I mean, last I checked, you wanted to break God's nose. Now you think he can help?"
"He's the only one who can," Dean was quick with his reply. "I mean, come on Sam. We are royally boned. So, prayer – a last hope of a desperate man," Dean needed this. He desperately needed this.
"Then let us pray," I gave him a look, brushing passed them both and headed to the door. Both of the boys followed suit, and I headed out of the door, and stood on the porch, as I just remembered there is no road out here.
"Wasn't there a street out here?" Sam questioned, looking around the surroundings that was now a forest.
"There was," Dean agreed with Sam.
"Unless it's under the bushes, I don't think there's one now," I remarked, as we all headed back inside, hoping to find this 'road' Cas wanted us to find. I noticed Dean began to search the house, heading to the door in front of us, and opening it up.
"Dean? What are you doing?" Sam rushed on over, standing to my left, as I crossed my arms over my chest, watching Dean search.
"Looking for a road," he was blunt in his reply, as he brushed past us and to the closet under the stairs.
"You – You think the road is in a closet?" Sam was skeptical, as Dean opened the door, and switched on the light.
"We're in Heaven, Sam, ok? Our memories are coming true, Cas is on TV. Finding a road in a closet would be pretty much. The most normal thing to happen to us today," Dean got distracted half-way through, as his eyes were upon that of a race track.
"Ok, Harry Potter," I remarked with the roll of my eyes. He dismissed my comment, and crouched himself down to the racing track.
"What?" Sam noticed his brother's infatuation with the toy cars.
"I used to have one of these," Dean picks up the blue racing car to examine it. "When I was a kid," he places the car onto the track, and picks up the remote before activating it. The car sped on the track, and looped around.
I noticed that it was no longer dark outside, and I was near a window - in a bedroom. Bird chirping, as if we just instantly transported somewhere else.
"That was the road?" I turned back around to see Sam crouching beside his brother, now wearing his regular hunters outfit.
"I guess," Dean replies. He and Sam rose up from their crouching positions, as I wandered around the room. "Pretty trippy, right?" Dean remarks. I softly chuckled at his words, before taking in the room in full. Seeing it littered with toys, among other nicknacks. I could tell it was a child's bedroom.
"Yeah... More trippy... Um, apparently," I cast my head over my shoulder to see Sam about to read from Dean's shirt. "You 'Wuv Hugz'" He mocks, finding humor in this. Dean lowered his gaze to his shirt, placing his hands to examine it for a moment.
"Bet you were an adorable child Dean," I teased playfully.
"Shut up," his eyes flicked from me to Sam, indicating he was telling us both to behave. Sam and I laughed, finding it hilarious as we teased Dean. "Wait a minute. I know where we are," Dean made a realization.
"Where?" Sam asked.
"We're home," I turned to meet him staring at Sam, from here I could tell his eyes beamed with relief and happiness.
"Dean," a female voice rang free. The door to the bedroom opens, and Mary Winchester pops her head in. "Hey, Dean. You hungry?" This Mary was clearly older, but still as beautiful as in her youth. This was going to be a touchy subject, and it was going to be hard for them both to see this. Sam never knew his Mother, and Dean had pieces that he clung too over the years. Something I know too well...
