Twenty Five.
The room was dark, curtains shut, lights off... But the throbbing in my head was the most disturbing part of everything.
What had happened?
The clock read two.
I didn't bother getting up for some pills, just forced myself back to sleep.
* * *
"Okay, okay Sir. I'll be there in thirty minutes," I assured struggling with the heel putting up a fight. "Stupid!" I muffled standing.
"What was that?" The bossy voice came from the device held between my cheek and shoulder.
"Nothing. Nothing Sir. I'll just...get going." Ah! I was so tensed up. With no idea what kind of people I'd find in that new company I had been transferred to was maddening.
Were they even real? Or just some aliens I'd been made to believe by dad?
I let out a deep breath checking myself on the mirror.
"Only one way to find out pretty clerk." The wryly smile was creepy no lying.
In thirty minutes, I stood before the McQueen Tower. It looked perfect and dangerously talk from my very earned height.
Then in the next five minutes, I was exiting the lift in the sixth floor, before having to wait for the secretary to check my appointment.
"Miss Daisylyn?"
"Yes. That's me." "Okay. You may go in," she acknowledged taking up her seat behind the shinny desk.
The name hanging above the wooden frame didn't really look familiar at all... Mr McLain.
I knocked, waited for a reply that came almost immediately.
Like any careful girl out to look good before her new boss at the first day of work, I slid in, making minimum noise on the tikes with the heels.
The male was seated at his desk to the left. His head was bowed, dug deep and hidden by the computer.
"Sit!"
My heart slowed for a second. Wasn't that? No. I was just dreaming about the devil again.
Before he could realise my hesitation, I rushed to the leather seat in from of the desk.
"What's your name?"
"Daisylyn Jenner, Sir."
Again, his voice sounded so damn familiar. Familiar dangerous.
"Why did they transfer you?"
I frowned. Hadn't Julia told them why? "I asked for the-"
"Why? Are you running from something? Perhaps, someone?"
My throat had dried up at that point. Wishing for a formal interview not an interrogation.
"Um...no Sir."
"Can you do something for me?"
The heat, disturbing and warning. But what could possibly happen to that request.
"Yes, what do you-"
"Stand up and close your eyes. Don't ask a question."
Had three years of emotional torture led me to hearing Alex's voice everywhere? But no, he couldn't be there. The last time I heard about him, he had travelled to Asia. And that was when? A few months ago.
Dammit! I had been keeping track of the devil, just for my safety. Though it didn't feel that way.
Following the request, I got off the chair, placing my purse on the desk. And in one calm breath, I let my eyes close.
"What n-"
"No questions... Could you now turn to the right?"
Another strained breath, but did as told.
Nothing moved. Nothing breathed... Honestly, I was starting to think the man was busy checking me out from behind the computer. But when I a hand brushed gainst my cheek, I jumped in a yell, which was cut off by the lips crushing mine... Whatever pushed me to kiss back was to blame for my pure awkwardness.
My eyes shot open, and the world couldn't have picked a worse timing than bring the devil himself back in my life.
I wriggled in his arms. But it felt as if Alex had waited ages to do that to me.
He ended the kiss, but never let go of me.
"Hello Daisy. So great to see you again."
"You-You!"
Honestly, the demon in me was glad to see that blond man after so long. Only, I couldn't admit it.
Alex cupped my jaw.
"You're a piece of work. You'd have kissed a stranger just for a job?"
"Let me go you ass! Right now!" But that only seemed to tick him into a fine laughter.
The arms claimed my waist even tighter, hands resting above my butt.
It was all so damn electrifying. Being in the arms of the guy that had ruined my life miserably.
"Now that you're back, I'm never letting go Daisy McLain."
"Huh! Keep dreaming. After all that you made me go through, even the devil himself wouldn't take you back."
Alex burst in a cackle.
"Uptight and tough as usual. Why am I not surprised?"
"I'm warning you-"
He buried his face on mine, possessing my lips in a furious kiss that left me no space to react. Well, other than kiss back as if the world was about to explode.
No! It was wrong.
He betrayed you, remember?
That was all it took to thrust him away from me, pick my purse and dash out.
I was so sure my hair was a mess. But my brain gave not a damn care.
* * *
The telephone rang through the lounge again.
Before I could even pick the receiver, I knew who was on the other end, my former boss, Edwin Cole. A man in his late fifties with a heart tough as of a dragon's.
"Finally! I've been trying to reach you, where's your cellpho-"
"I can't take the job Sir!" I interrupted.
"Wha-what? But McLain said you're perfect for it. Said the little interview was a success."
I breathed quietly, rolling my eyes... Successively dumb.
"Sir I-"
"No excuses Miss. He gave a great report about you and I'm sure you don't want to embarrass me to that important man."
I had been pushed to an edge. Couldn't walk away, I needed the job, the money. Then there was the pressure of working in the same field as Alex, my ghost.
"Alright Sir. I'll give you a call when I'm at the office tomorrow."
"Good." I could feel him smile before replacing the receiver.
My new office was perfect.
Had class, style, taste. Too much for just a simple clerk.
But the worse part, was the fact that the wall to the next office, was clear glass, and had a damn door that the bastard could easily come through.
I felt trapped. Restricted, and limited. Why was fate doing that to me?
The also glass wall behind my desk that gave a great overhead view of the city, made my stomach churn. Staring down, I could see what a tragic death I'd have if was too fall. How many feet above the ground was I?
"Knock! Knock!"
I turned to the male gazing at me from the side door.
"That's not knocking you dumbass. You're literally in my office already."
Alex laughed.
His long blonde hair fell to his large shoulders. The black shirt, firm and revealing what an athletic chest he possessed.
I was compelled to appreciate his well maintained structure. But didn't really have to breathe a word about it.
Quietly, Alex came closer, till he stood right before me.
"You got a sharp tongue for an employee."
I bit my lip in rage.
"Employee my butt! I didn't want this job, well, had wanted it before finding out you're the damned boss!"
Alex laughed mockingly.
He seemed to enjoy when I was worked up over, him.
Gawd! What was wrong with me? I was letting him get to me so easily.
"But I'm sure you are wild about that fact. We can be big boss and his little secretary," he said taking me in his arms. "I'll give the orders, and you follow."
"In your dreams you loser!"
I felt his hands trail down my waist to my butt. And through the thin material of the black skirt and little panties, I felt his heat as his hands quickly covered my bottom.
A short gasp erupted, which Alex made use by kissing me off guard.
God knows I tried to fight him. But it only made his tighten his grip on my butt, and kiss me even roughly.
Damn it felt good. He demanded, and I resisted to submit, a dirty little game that awakened strange emotions within me. Erotic emotions from the white heat dripping down to my center like lava drops.
Alex owned me. And my entire body knew that fact. But I still refused to accept it.
"I love it when you act uninterested but craving for a touch from me." He whispered on my lips. One hand coming up to cup my jaw.
"How long have you been fantasising about me Daisy?"
"I've never had a single dream about you."
Alex chuckled like a maniac. Before picking me up without a notice.
My butt was pressed down at the cold desk, before he positioned himself between my thighs, making the skirt ride all the way up to my crotch.
"Alex!" My toughness had vanished. And I could feel the fear of what he would do to me.
"Relax honey."
He reached behind my head, pulled off the band holding up my ponytail, and let it free.
Some relief pulsed through my head. "You look much more like my Daisy now."
Like a stylist, Alex spread out the hairs, tucking some behind my ear. Before letting his right hand trace my jaw.
"Three years have felt like a breeze Daisy. I could have waited longer."
I caught his wrist, stopping the hand from adding more silent torture.
"Waited for what Alex? I made it clear that we dies three years ago. Only Alex and Daisy exist. There is no we."
He kissed my knuckles, then the wrist, till he got to my arm, and shoulder.
"Alex!" I breathed lowly.
But he didn't stop. Just kept going, while his hands grasped my waist, holding me in position as his lips assaulted my neck and chest.
He was damn hard.
I felt the member poking at my heated up center down there.
And heaven help me, my mind just kept racing on how it'd feel with him inside me.
"Daisy," Alex moaned on my neck. "Alex!" I whispered back breathlessly.
The large hands started touching me all over. Lighting up flames that would consume the air out of me.
"I wanna have you Daisy."
"Alex! Please, sto-op."
Ooh, it was so damn tight. The air, the caresses and kisses.
"Don't tell me to stop cause we both want that. You want me, and I want you so badly. Aah! The urge is so intense Daisy."
"Alex! We're in an office," I tried reasoning, cupping his face to gaze at his killer looks.
"So, a date after work?"
No Daisy. Don't, don-
"Yes. After work." I cut in my conscience.
He lifted me off the desk, and let me slide to the floor against his bulged loin.
With one last kiss, Alex whispered something that left my entire system traumatized than the whole make-out session.
"I love you Miss B."
