Part 1 White Roses - Greyson Chance
A/N So this one is turning out to be a lot longer than I was expecting so I'll do at least another part if not more, depending on if you want more. Then the next story will be a request by @BabyJosephISBORN and then a request from @samd246. Sorry for it not tagging you both, but thanks for the comments and ideas! I love it. This one is based on a song that I've been listening to a bunch the past couple of weeks. It's actually about the singer who was afraid to be out and was trying to date a girl that he did love but not in the way that he actually wanted and there is the guy he actually loves watching. The music video is great. I'm going to use that idea a bit but also change it so it's my own story. Also, this is a college-age AU and the chapters are pretty long. Let me know what you think!
It was finally here. Freedom! Alec drove his car, full to the brim with all of his belongings that he couldn't part with. Jace was in his own car behind him and he was the only person that he would know in this new place. They had been friends as long as he could remember. When Jace's dad had died in an accident Alec's parents had taken him in. He was more of a brother than a friend. They were closer than Alec was with anyone except maybe his sister. It was going to be hard being away from her. Alec wouldn't miss his parents, he knew that, but Izzy, he was going to miss her like crazy.
Alec pulled into the apartment complex, following his phone's directions. Jace followed close behind and they both found parking spots after about thirty minutes. Alec got out of his car with his phone and check-in paperwork.
"Dude," Jace shook his head. "There are so many idiots. I swear I almost ran a couple of them over."
"Yeah, there are far too many people." Alec agreed. He was definitely on the more introverted side. He would prefer staying inside or being out by himself than be surrounded by people. Jace on the other hand, generally loved it.
"But, damn, some of them are fine." Jace watched a red-headed girl walk by in a deep conversation with a nerdy-looking boy.
"True," Alec said just as his world stopped on its axis. "Beautiful." He said in reverence as his eyes met the most perfect person he had ever seen. He had a black and red spiked, almost too tall, mohawk, along with golden-brown eyes that sparkled in the sunlight. His eyes were surrounded by black lines and red swirls. The makeup would have looked bizarre on anyone else. His golden, tanned skin made the gold shirt pop. As he turned Alec got a great view of his ass in those tight black, jeans.
"Alec, come on," Jace grabbed his arm and yanked him to the stairs of the check-in building. "I really hope our roommate doesn't suck. I don't get why we couldn't just have a two-bedroom apartment."
"They were all taken by the time you got in, Mr. Waitlist." Alec teased, trying to get the guy out of his mind. He had already disappeared from his view and Alec felt like he was missing something. He had never felt like that before, but he knew from his sister and books that this was at least a serious crush if not more.
"It would be great if it was a girl right?" Jace wiggled his eyebrows. "I call her, if so. Unless she's not my type."
"Do you even have a type?" Alec chuckled. "I feel like as long as she's a girl, you'd be into her." Alec shoved him lightly.
"Hey!" Jace shoved him back. "Well, kind of. But that just means I'm a great guy. No judging."
"It means you're a manwhore." Alec teased and held his thumb and pointer finger a tiny distance away. "Just a tiny bit. Like a bit of a manwhore."
"Such a jerk." Jace stepped up as the line moved forward. "Hey, look that girl keeps checking me out."
"Shocking." Alec rolled his eyes. Jace was far too attractive for his own good. Alec had even had a crush on him for most of their lives, but it was one of fleeting love. It wasn't real and he knew it. It had been hard to admit it to himself but even if Jace somehow changed his whole personality and became gay, Alec would still not want him. Well, he might not say no to a little fun first. It was Jace.
"Ah, actually she's checking you out." Jace pushed Alec in front of him so he could see the cute blonde. She looked nice and Alec knew that she was pretty, but more like a painting is pretty, not like the guy he just saw. He was a masterpiece along with the clear personality that came through from just his physical expression. Alec knew he was someone that he would meet and never be able to forget.
"Nice." Jace nodded his head. "She's so digging those looks you're giving her."
"What?" Alec made eye contact with the girl and she winked. "Oh, right." He smiled back and regretted not telling Jace the truth about how he felt. But he couldn't stand the idea of losing his best friend or having him act differently.
"Ask her out," Jace demanded as they walked over to her. She was sitting at a desk checking people in.
"Ask who out?" She purred up at them, eyes only for Alec.
"You." Jace said because Alec remained silent. "He wants to ask you out. Here's his number." Jace scribbled Alec's number down then kicked Alec who still hadn't said anything.
"Sorry about my brother. He's a bit of an idiot and shy when talking to cute girls." Jace pointed out and she laughed. "I'm Jace and the guy drooling over you is Alec."
"Lydia." She extended her hand and Alec shook it out of habit. "How about we go get some ice cream tonight? There's a great place within walking distance and a park that we can walk around."
"Sounds great. He loves ice cream." Jace rolled his eyes at Alec. "Here's our paperwork."
"You're not coming are you?" She teasingly asked Jace.
"No, he'll be all yours," Jace assured her.
"Great." She smiled and handed Alec his paperwork. "I'll see you at 7."
"Okay." Alec finally spoke.
"Text me." She pointed to her number on his paperwork with the key that she was handing him. "I'll meet you at your place."
"Great." Alec took off. This was a disaster. He hadn't even been there for an hour and he already was lying about who he was.
"Nice!" Jace high-fived him. "I'm jealous but excited for you. It's been too long."
"Let's just go find our apartment." Alec was sad. He had been truly considering just telling Jace the truth, but now he couldn't. He had to just stick to the false him, and it was probably for the best. It had been a sign and he'd probably never see the guy again anyway.
"Hello!" The guy Alec had just assured himself that he'd never see again called out as they walked into their new apartment. "It's you."
"What?" Jace looked confused.
"Not you." He pushed Jace out of his way and touched Alec's arm. "It's you, the pretty boy."
"Ah, thanks?" Alec couldn't hide the smile or blush but tried to when Jace looked between them.
"I'm Magnus Bane and you are?" Magnus held his hand out and shook Alec's as he read his name on the paper. "Alexander."
"Alec," Jace corrected and stepped between them. "And I'm Jace."
"I see." Magnus stepped back and his eyebrows went up. "Well, I'm glad you're both here because I figured I wouldn't be a complete ass by stealing a room without letting you see them al first."
"Thanks." Jace walked further inside and went down the hallway. Alec followed with Magnus right behind him. There was one room right inside the hallway, the bathroom, and then two rooms on either side of the hallway at the end. The apartment was tiny, but it was big enough for 3 guys to get around with only minor annoyances.
"Alec and I can take the ones closer to each other." Jace offered as he looked in them.
"Or you could take the other one." Magnus offered and they both looked at him. Jace, annoyed and Alec, curious. "I don't want to assume but you seem like the kind of guy who would have guests over more often."
Alec burst out laughing. "It's true." He smacked Jace on the shoulder to stop him from getting angry. "We were just talking about that."
"You're the one who already has a date." Jace pointed out and Alec regretted teasing him. He was angry. Why was he acting so protective?
"Oh really?" Magnus was highly interested.
"Yeah, with the cute blonde who checked us in." Jace puffed out his chest.
"The cute blonde?" Magnus didn't remember seeing any cute guys and he knew without a doubt that Alec was gay.
"Lydia." Alec said it as if he were telling someone they had cancer.
"Oooh." Magnus clicked his tongue. "I see." Alec may be gay but he definitely wasn't out, that much was clear. Magnus wanted to be disappointed but if they could be in the rooms next to each other he could burrow his way into Alec's heart. He had never felt such a strong connection to someone he didn't know.
"Jace, you really should take that room," Alec added to change the subject. "You also have football so you'll be getting up earlier than us probably. And you snore."
"A snorer!" Magnus clapped his hands. "No. Way. I'm. Sleeping. Near. You."
"Assholes." Jace chuckled and the tension was gone. "Fine, I'll take the room that I actually wanted. You guys are terrible at bargaining."
