Chapter 6

School has just finished and Charlotte couldn't be any more happier. She exits the school building with Sage and Sabrina by her side.

"Well guys, I'm off to my apartment. See you guys tomorrow, okay?" She said and began walking in the opposite direction of them.

Sabrina placed a hand on her shoulder so she could stop.

"You're going there? Alone? You know how dangerous that area is. What if Henri is not there?" Sabrina says, concerned for her friend's safety.

"I'll be fine. Don't worry. And I have faith in Henri. I'm sure he won't abandon his little sister in that dump of an apartment." Charlotte says and hugs Sage and Sabrina.

"Be careful." Sage says, releasing the hug.

Charlotte hummed in response and waved good bye.

"Honestly, I'm worried about her. As for Henri-" Sage says but was cut off.

" If she says she's fine, it must be the truth. We shouldn't worry. She's more than capable enough to take care of herself. Oh and there's nothing wrong with Henri. He's a good brother." Sabrina says finally turning around from the direction Charlotte walked off.

" Obviously, you'll take his side. I mean you have a major crush on the dude for a while now. " Sage smirks.

" Wh-what?! No! N-no I do not! " Sabrina says, almost turning red.
"Oh yeah? Then why are you so flustered then? Huh? Huh?" Sage wiggles her eyebrows and laughs at her friend's embarrassed face. Sabrina just covers her face with her hands. "Your face says it all. But why? I mean he's like 3 years older than you."

"Oh, age is just a number."

"Yeah and I'm a wizard." Sage  says sarcastically.

"You're a wizard Sage!" Sabrina says in a British accent and we both laugh. "Well, I guess I like him because...he's so caring. He tries so hard to give Charlotte the best life and...even though he must be having so many hardships, he still has a smile on his face whenever anyone is around."

"Hmm... I see. You have some strong points on an ideal boyfriend." Sage says holding her chin like some sort of professor.

Sabrina rolls her eyes. "Not like it even matters anyway. He's probably got loads of hot chicks to choose from in college. You think he'll even see me in that way. I already kissed my chances goodbye." Sabrina hangs her head and sighs.

"Oh, don't be so negative. Okay, maybe he won't be the one. But you still have the rest of high school to get through and I'm sure you'll find someone." Sage says, putting an arm around Sabrina's shoulders.

"Thanks Sage. And what about you? Any success in your love life?"

Sage gives a big 'huff'. "I'm not very lucky when it comes to that. Neither am I very keen on finding someone at this point. Who knows, maybe college has something in store for me. But at the rate I'm going, I'll probably be single forever."

"Wow. So, Ms. Heart - of-steel, hasn't found anyone yet? Well use the  same advice you gave me. We still have the rest of high school." Sabrina smiles. "Although, I have heard some rumors."

"Rumors? About?" Sage asks, getting a bit nervous.

"Apparently, Asher might have a thing for you."

"Asher. The blonde one, beautiful blue eyes, who tries to compete with me. That Asher?"

"Yep. Nice description. "

"Oh dear God! But that can't be. There's many girls who like him and he doesn't seem like the type to go after weirdoes like me." Sage says covering her face. Seems like the roles are switched now.

"Oh come on. Actually, I'm quite confident about these rumors. I mean you're his rival for 1st place..."

"And I always beat his ass there."

"Plus, he kinda has a soft spot for you." Sabrina shrugs.

"Meaning?" Sage asks, clueless about the situation.

"Well, let's see. Remember that time when those two idiots from the C - class picked on you for being a weirdo and that they are going to claim too spot." Sabrina says sitting down with Sage on a grass patch.

"Yeah. Roy and Fred. Those idiots really get on my nerves." Sage says, getting angry at the mention of them.

" Yes. Then Asher came, before you were about to beat the shit out of those guys, and said, 'Excuse me, but she's my rival. Go pick someone else.' Then he left. "

" What has that got to do with anything?"

"Man, you're dense. He was being protective! Also he may hate you, but the way he looks at you in class -"

"That's creepy." Sage interrupts, making a weird face.

"Let me finish! The way he looks at you and smiles, even though he hates you, has got to mean something." Sabrina says, finally coming to a conclusion.

"Well, maybe he's just being friendly as a sign of respect for his rival. And I smile back." Sage says making a face that has 'Duh' written all over it.

"Urgh! I give up! You're denser than dense!" Sabrina groans falling back on to the grass.

"He's just being nice. Not every guy that shoots you a smile is your future boyfriend."

"Whatever." Sabrina says then changes the topic. "Charlotte has definitely fallen hard for Rider."

"So hard, that she sprained her ankle today." Sage jokes and they both laugh at her lame line. "But I agree with you on that. She has a good chance with him. His face is unreadable at times but the probability of two of them is high."

"I just hope Charlotte doesn't change because of him." Sabrina sighs.

Sage hums and they both, now laying on the grass, stare off into space.

Sabrina then wakes up to see her mom's car pulling up in front of the school. "Well, my mom's here. See ya." She says, dusting her clothes and walking to car.

"I better get going to." Sage says to herself. She gets up from the ground and walks in the direction of her house. She was offered many times by Sabrina's mom for a ride home and her parents had told her thousands of times to use the bus. But she preferred walking.

As she walked, the bus passed her parking in front of the school for the kids to get in. A familiar voice called out to her and Sage's eye twitched at the sound.

"Yo rival!"

Dear God, kill me now! What does that douche bag want? She thought before composing herself and turning around. At the door of the bus, Asher stood about to go in.

"What?!" she yelled.

"Oh nothing! Just want to see your face getting annoyed! It'll be worse when I beat you this year!" he yelled.

"Yeah, right! We'll see about that!" she yelled back and began walking away. How can that fool  have a crush on me if he keeps making remarks like that? Rumors are rumors. To be honest... Boyfriends are overrated.
