Chapter 5

Charlotte's POV

The rest of the morning goes by smoothly... Oh who am I kidding?! It was awful. Rumours spread way too fast. My entire class already knows about the fight. Sage also got her wish of receiving the video. I know what I'm getting for my birthday. Sigh.

Some people really don't know how to spread news. If you're sharing a story at least get the details right! Some imbecile said that Rider is in a secret relationship with me. Others are saying that I'm bullying Megan. I don't want to even look at that she-devil so I definitely won't waste my precious time bullying her.

The worst one is that Megan and I are fighting to get Rider's attention because Sage and Sabrina are dating him. Which empty vessel came up with that?! This just completely tarnishes my reputation. Well, Megan didn't have hers tarnished, her skimpy dressing did it for her ages ago.

I'm sitting in the back of the class staring at the back of Megan's head, probably burning imaginary holes into it. Superman's laser eyes would really  come in handy right now. She's lucky I sit far away from her. Actually, she's lucky Sage sits far away from her. Sage sits behind me. If Megan was in the radius of Sage, she'll probably become bald or get permanent brain damage.

Is it just me, or is Math painfully long today? I glance up at the clock. Just ten more minutes then it's lunch.

While staring at the clock I see a paper ball go flying past my face and lands in Megan's red hair, in the front of the classroom. Then another one, and another. I wonder who that could be? After realizing the obvious option, I turn around.

"Seriously, Sage?" I whisper ask, raising a brow.

"What? Not like she noticed. Also, I'm bored. Killing two birds with one stone. If only I could throw real stones instead of paper balls." Sage replies.

I let out a sigh and turn back to my own desk to complete my work. Sage always finishes her work early then pretends her stationery are toys and annoys the hell out of everyone. As for Sabrina she finishes her work then reads over it a gazillion times, making sure everything is to the T. Or she goes back to reading a book. Sometimes I wonder how those get along. Oh wait, that's right...they don't.

I turn to my left to see Sabrina, doing what I predicted, reading. I look at the cover and see a pale boy with white hair and a black mask that covers his face and one eye. I couldn't see the title, since she sits all the way on the other side of the classroom but I definitely knew it was a manga. And one all three of us read too.

Suddenly shocking me out of my thoughts, the buzzer sounds.

Sabrina, Sage and I hurriedly exit the class to avoid an encounter with the dizzy she - devil. I wish I could stay to see her face when she realizes that her hair is full of paper balls.

We analyzed the option of eating in the cafeteria but eventually sat outside, safe from Megan's troop. We chose a grassy patch outside the cafeteria and made ourselves comfortable under the tree.

"So how did you and Rider meet?" Sabrina asks, biting into her sandwich.

" I've told this story before." I reply eating my own sandwich.

" We know but we want to hear it again."

"Yeah. Okay, reminiscing time!" Sage says and they both turn to me. 'Reminiscing time' is this thing we do when something makes us nostalgic.

"Urghh! Fine!" I give in and began the story...

Back to 4th grade...

4th grade, the year I met Rider. Luckily Sage and Sabrina were in my class that year. Unfortunately, Rider wasn't. Not like I knew him before that anyway.

So it was, English, I think? And we were giving oral speeches on ourselves. I still remember Sage and Sabrina 's. Sabrina spoke a lot about how she loves school work, reading and anime. As for Sage, she couldn't stand still while speaking. Prancing up and down the front of the class, talking about herself.  That's when I discovered a lot weird things about her. Well they're both weird in any case. Their speeches were actually the longest in the class. Smartasses.

Eventually the buzzer rang and being like every other normal person, we ran as fast as we could out of the class for break to play.

The three of us always stuck together and kept it that way. We were eating our lunch and walking to the playground, the usual but...but something unusual was going to happen that day.

We were such innocent, innocent...innocent little children.

"Some more  innocent than others."  Sabrina says flashing sweet smile.

"Stop interrupting the story, idiot!" Sage says to Sabrina, then signaling me to continue.

Anyway, once we were done eating, Sage and Sabrina had to go to the bathroom, so I decided to take a walk to the volley ball field to watch some of the older girls practice.

At that age I wasn't very conscious of my surroundings nor did I had quick reflexes. And it was my bad luck that the volleyball ball came straight for my face! I had no time to think or move so I just froze and braced myself for impact. It just so happened that a group of boys, in my grade, were also standing around there.

One of the boys hit the ball away, preventing my cute little face from getting smashed.

I looked at the boy in utter shock.

" Uh... Uh... Thank you.", Was all I managed to say.

"No problem. I'm actually thinking of trying out for the volleyball team so I guess that was proof that I could play." The boy said. Anyone could tell from a mile away that he was one of those show offs.

"Uh-huh. Okay. So, my name's Charlotte Myers. What's your name?"

"Rider. Rider McAdams."

Is this dude trying to act cool or something? Well he ain't impressing anyone. I thought it was best I leave to find Sage and Sabrina before things got awkward.

"Okay, Rider. I guess I'll see you around."

And I definitely did. Someone who I didn't even notice before was actually quite noticeable. Well, like I said before I was not very conscious of my surroundings back then. We were just casual acquaintances, saying hi when we see each other. It never progressed further.

He was such a sweet boy, if you excuse the moments he shows of his athletic abilities. Other than that, he's always ready to help anyone. I was only in his class once, in 7th grade.

It was only when we got to 8th grade that I realized that I had feelings for him. Sage and Sabrina were excited to hear about that...but he changed. Changed from that innocent kid to the bad boy he is today.  I don't know how and I don't know why.

But I still got eyes for that dude.

"Well that's it. The end... For the hundredth time." I say finally getting a chance to eat my sandwich.

"I still want to know how that dweeb from primary school turned out like this." Sage says, waking up from the grass to dust her jeans off.

Sabrina shrugs, "Only the demons know."

"Demons?" I ask.

"Yeah. 'cause he's a bad guy and all so it suits him."

"What? Okay, forget it. We should probably get back inside. The break will end soon." Sage says picking up her bag from the ground.

We pack our stuff away and head back inside. The only entrance to the next class from where we were sitting was through the cafeteria. As we walked Megan's squad glares at us. Since she's so popular she brainwashed others to be her minions which caused more people to stare at us.

They should just mind their own business... Oh wait I forgot this is high school. People don't know how to do that.

Some secluded spot in the back of the school...

Megan checks her surroundings to make sure no one followed her then pulls out her cellphone.

"Hello. I'm doing what you asked. I honestly don't know what you see in this girl. She has no potential to work for you." Megan says, constantly checking if anyone is coming.

You better do this right! I gave you this job for a reason. Remember you have no choice in this matter. Just do what I tell you or else I'll -

" Nononono! I'll do what you say. I still don't get why, out of all the capable people you chose this girl. She can bearly defend herself."

That girl is special. She'll make a great addition to my gang. Just wait and watch the power that manipulation can have on people. Now unless you complete this job you'll never be able to escape from me. Is that clear?!

" Yes. I understand. Actually I have an idea to speed this process up a bit. It invloves a boy named Rider McAdams. He is very capable in helping to complete this task. But it's going to be a bit difficult getting through to him, although the results will be in your favour. "

I don't care how you do it. As long as I get the girl. Remember don't just bring me in her current state. She needs to snap. Then only will she be of great importance to me. She'll make a marvellous assassin.

" No worries. Consider it done. " Megan hangs up the phone and leans against the wall, covering her face.

What have I gotten myself into? I have no choice. I'm already in too deep.

She composes herself then walks back to the school.

I guess I got to do some pushing until she snaps then. That shouldn't be too hard for me. It'll be even more fun if I drag Rider into this. Hmmm.

A smirk forms it's way onto her face... That definitely can't be good.
