Tattoo

I got this idea from A tiktok writing thingy so there's credits to @ writing.prompt on tiktok!

~

Everyone was born with two tattoos on their arms, one on the left arm, one on the right arm. One of those tattoos represented your soulmate, and the other represented your greatest enemy. Usually you never knew which was which until you met them. Sometimes you didn't know which was which even after you met them. Plus, no one but you could see your tattoos.

But Hawks knew. It was easy to figure out, as both of his tattoos were the outline of blue flames.

So, naturally, the prospect of ever meeting his soulmate was slightly frightening.

The hero sighed and curled his wings around himself, losing himself in the warmth of his own feathers.

~

Hawks arrived at his agency just in time- thank God he was fast or he never would have gotten there in time. It was just his luck that his alarm hadn't gone off.

"Hawks!" Endeavor called.

Hawks blinked at him in surprise and walked over, confused. "Why are you here Endeavor-San? Don't you have your own agency to attend to?" The blonde poked Endeavor's arm playfully.

The number one hero rolled his eyes and pushed Hawks' hand away. "I need you to go to my daughter's school."

Hawks took a moment to comprehend that.

"You want me to go to school? Doesn't your daughter teach kindergarten? I know I seem stupid but I promise I'm not that dumb, I just act like it cause you know dumb blonde vibes, I don't know dude but-"

Endeavor held up his hand to interrupt him. "No, I don't think you're that dumb. Or at least I didn't." Endeavor raised an eyebrow at Hawks before continuing. "Her class likes you, and she requested that I ask you to go there and talk to them for a bit. I agreed."

Hawks blinked. "Um, I'm flattered that this class of kindergartners like me and all, don't get me wrong, but I'm kind of busy today? I have patrols and I have to meet with the Commission and-"

Endeavor interrupted him. "I'm sure you'll make time in your schedule for my daughter, won't you?"

Hawks stared at him and snapped his mouth shut, nodding once.

"Good," Endeavor hesitated. "Also, you haven't met your soulmate yet, have you?"

Hawks shook his head. "No, why?"

"No reason, but maybe you could talk to Fuyumi about that, she hasn't met hers yet either."

Hawks cocked his head to the side, bringing his hand up to his chin. Why would that matter- oh.

"Oh, erm... look, Endeavor-san, I'm sure your daughter is great and all, but I'd really rather not date anyone or anything like that... I especially don't want to meet my soulmate and have to tell them I'm seeing Fuyumi Todoroki or anything so-"

Endeavor rolled his eyes and left without another word.

Hawks bit his lip. He had conveniently forgotten to mention that he was terrified to meet his soulmate, as that same person was his greatest enemy. And a flame? Hawks already didn't like fire, if the fact that this person was the person who he loved the most and the person who could be his downfall wasn't enough, this person just had to be represented by fire.

Yay.

Hawks shook his head firmly to clear his thoughts before walking over to his large window calmly, glancing at either side of the sky for any annoying birds that would potentially fly into him, then hurled himself out the window, letting himself fall for as long as he could before stretching his wings out and flying up into the sky and in the general direction of Fuyumi's school.

~

Hawks slipped his hands over Fuyumi's eyes. "Guess who!"

"Bird-man child?" Fuyumi laughed.

Hawks removed his hands and scowled playfully as Fuyumi turned to face him.

"Thank you for coming Hawks."

Hawks nodded cheerfully. "Sure! You know, you could've texted me yourself, it would have saved me from the awkward conversation I had with your dad."

Fuyumi grimaced at the mention of Endeavor before her carefree smile returned. Hawks didn't fail to notice this. "Why, what'd he do that was so awkward for the hero who's considered most confident and attractive every year?"

"Mirko stole my most attractive crown two years ago," Hawks reminded her. "He seemed to want us to... date or something."

Fuyumi sighed. "I don't doubt it, he probably thinks ice and wings would make a perfect quirk."

Hawks raised an eyebrow. "What?"

"Nevermind," Fuyumi muttered. "Anyways, I'm guessing he told you why I needed you?"

"Your kids like me!"

"Yup, there's a first. Someone likes you Hawks. " Fuyumi giggled.

Hawks pouted and poked her shoulder. "I've half a mind to leave and let you explain to your class that I'm not coming."

"They don't know you're coming. "

"Well you've just got it all thought out, don't ya?" Hawks laughed.

~

Hawks had to admit, it was just about the sweetest thing. Those kids loved him! They almost acted like he was a kid too, maybe because he acted like one or maybe because they had some sort of sense that he needed his childhood back. Who knows, maybe the reason he hasn't met his soulmate is because he hadn't ever gone to school and that was where he was supposed to meet them.

Hawks shook the thoughts away and continued his trek back to his agency. He had had to call and ask someone else to take over his patrols and he'd do there's (Mirko happened to be the lucky winner, so now he had patrols from midnight to eight AM). He'd also spent some time with Fuyumi cleaning up the classroom, and since it was winter, by the time he was done the sun was already setting.

"Well well, if it isn't the number two hero..." a voice drawled from behind Hawks.

The hero turned around but didn't see anyone.

"Boo," hissed the same voice in his ear.

Hawks immediately flipped around, drawing his knee into the person's stomach and making them both fall to the floor.

"Dabi?" Hawks asked, incredulous.

Dabi rolled his eyes. "Yes?"

"I knew the League was stupid, but I didn't think you were that stupid." Hawks smirked.

Dabi tsked. "You think I'm stuck here? You're not heavy, Hawks, I can push you off me easily."

Hawks chuckled. "You seem to forget I have wings." he flapped them twice to push himself down farther, smirking when Dabi grunted at the added pressure.

"I can still burn you."

Ah yes, forgot about that.

"True," Hawks relented, standing up, ignoring Dabi's confused face as he rose slowly.

"Are you stupid? Why would you let me go?"

"Because I'd like to get some sleep before my patrols tonight and I can't do that if I'm here."

Dabi chuckled. "Well before you go... what're your tattoos Hawks?"

Hawks froze and stared at him. "Why?"

"Because both of mine are feathers and I'm worried that you're my ene- soulmate. " Dabi responded dryly.

Hawks blinked. "...What?"

"You heard me."

"They're... Blue flames..." Hawks stared at Dabi as the villain slowly lit a blue flame in his hand.

Hawks took a step back. "That can't be right, I mean-"

"How common is your quirk Hawks?" Dabi asked hurriedly. "Technically fire is a very common quirk, so -"

"I'm the only known person to have fierce wings. Not the only one to have wings, but the only one who can control their feathers with their mind, sharpen them and/or harden them, and feel things with them." Hawks mumbled.

Dabi didn't say anything.

"So you're my soulmate, " Hawks said, taking another step back.

"And you're my enemy. " Dabi responded.

Yay.

It had been about a month since Dabi figured out who his soulmate and enemy were. It was a little worrying- he and the rest of the League had really never thought of Hawks as an actual threat, so why was he Dabi's greatest enemy? What were they missing?

Sure he was fast, but he wasn't uncatchable (is that a word?). He'd tire out eventually, although Dabi had a feeling that if it was ever down to which one of them tired out first Hawks would win.

The villain cursed under his breath and left his room, opting to go get himself a whiskey or something alcoholic.

~

"So, Dabi, fancy seeing you here." Hawks chuckled. They met almost ever week trying to figure out how to get rid of the tattoos.

Dabi was fairly certain it was impossible, but Hawks' optimism was contagious.

"We meet every Friday."

"Yeah I know. You found anything? " Hawks asked, coming to stand next to Dabi.

The villain shifted slightly as being in close proximity to the hero made his head go fuzzy.

"I still think that if I burned you alive we wouldn't have this problem any more," Dabi said.

Hawks slapped his arm. "And I think that if we threw you in a jail cell we wouldn't have this problem. But I don't say that, do I?"

Dabi shrugged and turned to Hawks, his witty response dying on his tongue when he met the hero's golden eyes and realized that they were very close to each other.

Dabi's head felt fuzzy and he wanted to take a step, but he couldn't decide between backward or forward.

Hawks broke out of the trance first, stepping back and saying something about a book he'd read that had said to do something to get rid of the tattoos but Dabi didn't hear it as his body was suddenly moving on its own and he turned Hawks back to face him, capturing the hero's lips on his own before pulling back sharply.

"Sorry, I-"

"Don't apologize," Hawks murmured.

Dabi hesitated. " Do you..."

"Want to do it again?" Hawks finished, looking up at him.

"Maybe you're not such a bad soul-"

Hawks silenced him with another kiss.

That's the end. Woohoo!
