"So Birdie, what is it you wanted to do?" Dabi asked, trying to pull the blindfold off and grinning when Hawks slapped his hand.

"You aren't slick Dabi, I know you're trying to distract me so you can see where we're going," Hawks complained.

"Okay, caught me," Dabi held his hands up in mock surrender and tried to squint through the blindfold, but he couldn't make out anything in front of him. "But actually, where are we going?"

"You'll see!" Hawks chirped cheerfully.

"I can't see anything," Dabi grumbled, but he couldn't hide his excitement. Usually Hawks had no time when Dabi did or the other way around, so their time together usually got cut short. Not to mention how careful they had to be so no one found out.

If the heroes knew Hawks could be thrown in jail. He'd lose everything- for some reason unknown to Dabi, the hero was willing to risk that, so Dabi decided he wouldn't worry about it.

If the villains found out, Dabi would most likely be killed, along with Hawks.

So they weren't ever able to do anything; they just never had any time. But as it seemed, Hawks had made time available for them.

"Are we there yet?" Dabi asked as he felt Hawks stop moving.

"Almost. It would go faster if you let me fly you...?" Hawks added carefully.

Dabi sighed. He really didn't like not having his feet on the ground.

"Yeah, sure. Whatever," he said after a moment. He trusted Hawks, just not- well- gravity.

Hawks' arms wrapped securely around his waist and the hero flew up, powerful wings stretching against the inky sky, the red standing out sharply against the vivid sky.

Hawks landed on the roof evenly, making sure Dabi wouldn't stumble. The hero carefully pulled the blindfold off for Dabi, gazing out at the set up he had prepared for them.

Nothing super special, just a picnic blanket set on the ground and a bucket of KFC to share. (He also had Dabi's favorite food- cold Soba, for whatever reason- hidden away somewhere for when the villain inevitably complained about there only being chicken.) There were some lanterns placed around strategically to provide enough light that they could see each other, but not so much that it would attract any attention from the highway or neighboring buildings.

"You-" Dabi started, glancing at the area set up.

"Do you like it?" Hawks asked. "I know it's not much, but I just wanted to go on a date I guess, and I thought you'd like it too so-"

"Oh shut up," Dabi interrupted, pressing a small kiss to Hawks' lips.

Dabi pulled back smiling softly. "Yes I like it. Although seriously? Only chicken?"

Hawks chuckled at the predictable behavior from the villain.

"Yeah, sorry, I brought myself some cold soba but," Hawks quickly sent a feather to retrieve the soba. "I didn't think you liked that so..." Hawks smirked at Dabi as the soba landed in his hands and he quickly took a bite, watching Dabi gape at him in surprise.

"You want some?" Hawks asked playfully.

"Asshole," Dabi muttered, snatching the soba and sitting on the blanket.

Hawks chuckled and sat next to him, curling a wing around his shoulder and grabbing his chicken.

"What the hell?" Hawks demanded. "I don't know what you're talking about!"

Endeavor glared at him. "You know damn well what I'm talking about."

"How would I know? You just walked in here and said 'I suggest you explain,' as though I'd know what that means!"

"Have you looked at Social Media recently?" Endeavor asked, eyes set angrily.

Hawks blinked. "No? Was I supposed to?"

"I suggest you check," Endeavor growled, gesturing at Hawks' phone.

The blonde hero clicked his tongue in annoyance but did as be was told and opened his phone. "There's more than one type of social media, what am I looking on?"

"Any of it, it'll be there." Endeavor sat back, watching with his eyebrows set angrily as Hawks rolled his eyes and opened Instagram.

"What am I looking for?" Hawks asked, annoyed. Honestly, what did Endeavor see that made him so angry that had anything to do with Hawks?

"Just look up your name," Endeavor growled.

Hawks stared at him a moment then clicked his tongue once more, going to the search tab of Insta and looking up 'Hawks.'

A horrible feeling filled his gut as the images loaded, and as if in slow motion, they appeared before his eyes.

How in the hell did those get there?

"A hero? Really? And not just any hero- the Number Two hero?!" Shigaraki demanded, marching into Dabi's bedroom.

The scarred villain's eyes opened lazily. He blinked the sleep out of them slowly and sat up, mind still foggy with sleep.

"What about Oreos?" Dabi asked, vision clearing and Shigaraki's livid face coming into view.

"Shiggy wait! Let him explain-" Toga exclaimed from the doorway. She looked worried and Dabi suddenly had a bad feeling in his stomach.

But what had he done?

No, this couldn't have anything to do with him...

"There's nothing to explain!" Shigaraki snapped. "The Number Two Hero of Japan, and not only did Dabi lie to us, he might've betrayed us, he might've been working with the heroes this whole time, he-"

"What?" Dabi interrupted, sliding out of his bed. "I don't understand what you're talking about, what did I do?"

"What did you do? 'What did I do,' he says, as though he doesn't know!"

If looks could kill, Dabi would be dead five times over from the look Shigaraki was giving him right now.

"I genuinely don't understand what you're-" Dabi started but was interrupted by Shigaraki shoving a screen below his nose.

The scarred villain took a step back and he swore he stopped breathing at the photo.

Oh God, I'm dead. Dabi thought, looking up at Shigaraki's face.

Hawks quickly thought through his options, even though he knew he really only had one. The public couldn't know. The Commission would kill him if he let this spread any farther- although, it seemed it had already spread pretty far.

"I don't know what that is, or how it got to be on the internet, but I've never been in contact with Dabi, not like that," Hawks said easily, meeting Endeavor's sharp blue eyes. For a moment he almost saw Dabi's eyes there, but then, Dabi had never looked at Hawks so coldly.

"Really? Then how'd it get there?" Endeavor demanded.

"How am I supposed to know? Photoshop? Cosplayers? I've never done any of that." Hawks raised an eyebrow at Endeavor, shifting his wings ever so slightly to make it seem as though he wasn't worried about this, as though it happened all the time.

Which it did, of course, but not with villains, and it most certainly was never real. Usually just fans trying to get clout would create photos of him kissing other heroes or fans. It was annoying, but in reality Hawks didn't really care. Usually.

These photos were dangerous though. They were from yesterday, his surprise date with Dabi. He had been so careful- how had people found out?

"Don't you think its been tested for Photoshop? That's the first thing I did!" Endeavor seemed to be getting angrier. "Do you not see how bad that makes hero society look? We're against the villains, not kissing them!"

"I am well aware, actually, and this happens all the time Enji. If pros just don't give it attention, it'll blow over in a few days. I never kissed a villain," Hawks' stomach erupted into butterflies at the lie. "And I never will. Stop acting like a jealous ex or some shit!"

"I'm not acting like a-"

"Yeah, you are! And it's creepy! So stop!" Hawks tutted and rolled his eyes. "Anyways, are you done? Is that it?"

It seemed Hawks' words had done the trick and embarrassed Endeavor effectively enough that he wouldn't bother him about it anymore, because the number one hero sighed and left, not saying another word on the subject.

Now Hawks just had to find Dabi and find a way to convince the public, preferably before the Commission threatened his mother over it.

~

"I never did that," Dabi said. "Are you done?"

"No! No, I'm not done! How would it have gotten on the internet if you didn't do it, huh?" Shigaraki demanded, holding a hand up threateningly.

Dabi eyed the blue haired villains' hand wearily then sighed, realizing he'd have to come up with a better cover fast.

"I dont know- editing a photo? Maybe they just edited me into photos of Hawks. It can be done, you know." Dabi said, meeting Shigaraki's eyes.

"See? He's innocent Shiggy!" Toga exclaimed from the doorway, a rush of gratitude flowing through Dabi at the blonde.

Shigaraki hesitated before lowering his hand slowly, keeping an eye on Dabi the whole time.

"Fine. But don't think for a second this has just blown over. I'll be watching you."

"Okay stalker," Dabi murmured, rolling his eyes.

Now, what was Hawks playing at? Was that his whole plan for the date?

Dabi couldn't help the thoughts that rushed his head. Had that been Hawks' plan this whole time? He'd have to find out... even if he didn't like what he saw.

~

Hawks found himself avoiding the paparazzi that seemed to be hunting him. He knew his photoshop/cosplayer excuse wouldn't hold for them, so he had to stay away.

What am I going to do? They'll kill me, they'll kill me- if the villains don't kill me the Commission definitely will! Hawks' thoughts slowly got more and more panicked as he realized just how deep he was in.

In all his training with the Commission, they'd never thought to teach him how to not fall in love with the villain. Seemed like a pretty important thing to overlook, but here he was.

Hawks was snapped out of his thoughts when a hand clamped around his upper arm and he was yanked sideways into a shadowed alley, a feather in his hand almost immediately after the contact to his body.

Apparently the Commission did teach him something so that was good.

Hawks dropped the feather when he looked into his kidnapper's bright blue eyes.

Dabi.

"Care to explain?" Dabi growled.

Hawks gaped at him. "You don't really think I set it up, do you?"

Dabi didn't answer and Hawks knew what the villain was thinking. Hawks had planned the date, he'd planned everything, he had to have done it. It was the only thing that made sense.

"I swear Dabi, I didn't set it up, or anything like that! Why would I do that?" Hawks explained quickly, meeting Dabi's eyes.

Dabi kept his gaze locked in Hawks' for a moment before letting his eyes wander to the side. It was clear that he was unconvinced.

"Please Dabi, you have to believe me! I didn't- I didn't want anyone to find out, I know the consequences, I know the-"

"So how come you haven't been arrested yet, hm? Even if you could prove its fake- which would be hard, considering it's real- shouldn't you have been thrown behind bars by the Commission to help keep society under lock and key?" Dabi's eyes met Hawks' once more and the hero had a fleeting wish they hadn't- it seemed Dabi now had looked at Hawks as coldly as Endeavor.

"Because I did have a plan on what to say if we got found out!" Hawks felt anger bubbling in his stomach. Did Dabi really think he would do that? Use him just to out him to the world and maybe get him caught?

"And it worked?"

"Somewhat! Dabi, believe me! I didn't tell anyone and I didn't set anything up!"

"I think I have a solution," Dabi responded, ignoring Hawks' statement. "We make this not real. Then there's nothing to hide, right?"

Hawks stared at him, the anger fading out to be replaced by hurt. Dabi really didn't believe him.

"I swear, I didn't," Hawks said, his voice breaking.

Dabi didn't answer.

"Please Dabi, don't- don't leave?" It sounded like a question.

"Why not?" Dabi finally spoke, eyes filled with pain instead of anger. "Why should I trust you?"

"Do I look like I'm lying? Or do you just want me to be because you're scared?"

"What would I be scared of?"

"I don't know. Being vulnerable?" Hawks hesitantly cupped Dabi's cheek with his palm, his skin pressing against the coolness of Dabi's staples.

Dabi didn't respond, just allowed Hawks' hand to linger a moment longer before gently pulling it away.

"This is dangerous," Dabi whispered.

"I know."

"It would be safest to just pretend this wasn't real."

Hawks felt like he'd been doused in icy water, and it took him longer than it should have to find his voice and respond.

"It- it would. It would be safer," Hawks agreed sadly. "But I- I don't want to do that."

Dabi carefully pressed a soft kiss to Hawks' lips.

"Me neither," he answered. "Run away with me."

"W-what?" Hawks was caught off guard. Had Dabi actually said that? What did that even mean? Where would they even go?

"You heard me. Run away with me."

"Wha- where?" Hawks found his gaze flitting around nervously.

Dabi cupped his cheek and directed his face up so Hawks was forced to look at him.

"Anywhere. Please Hawks, we can't stay here. Not if... not if we are real."

Hawks knew that was true. If the villains didn't kill them the heroes would.

"Okay," Hawks murmured, their lips meeting in a soft kiss.

Once they'd pulled away Hawks chuckled softly, "that was so cringy."

"Yeah," Dabi chuckled. "But that's okay, right?"

"Yeah," Hawks breathed, reaching up and pecking Dabi's lips once more. "I like cringe."
