In the Aftermath
The forest had fallen; or maybe he had, he could not tell. But the trees hung as if they had all been cut down, laying stacked on one another, suspended as if they fought back against their demise.
Darkness seemed to swallow the forest around him. Deep down, something inside himself panicked, a flutter of a heartbeat too exhausted to pound him into action. And then it faded, as the darkness continued to erase the floating trees.
Then a shadow loomed over him, coming closer and closer before it kneeled beside him. Again, something told him to move, to get away, to do something, but his body would not obey vague suggestions from a failing mind. Was his mind failing?
The dark shadow reached for him and ice brushed his cheek. A shiver ran through him, awakening a fire burning in his leg. He sucked in a sharp gasp, the action shocking his lungs and he coughed stale air.
"Rhae, Legolas," a voice said. "Rhae."
Legolas closed his eyes, praying the darkness would simply take him, but then the icy tendrils brushed his face once more, the cold spreading down his spine. He tried to shrink away but the cold followed him, stinging him harder and harder until finally, he relented and cracked his eyes open.
"That's it," the voice from earlier said. It was deep, familiar, though he could not place it. "Sîdh, mellon nin. Stay awake for me."
Then blurred figure turned away, shouting something the prince's mind could not comprehend. Suddenly, Legolas prayed the figure wouldn't leave, wouldn't let him fall into this strange oblivion.
Blinking hard, Legolas' vision slowly cleared, but with awareness came even more agony as pain coursed through him. He let out a small cry, drawing the figure's attention back. Legolas' brow furrowed, "...Thala..dir?"
Thaladir gave a grim smile. "Aye, it is me. We found you. We will get you home."
Found him? Legolas wondered what that meant but before he could ask, Thaladir was speaking again, voice muffled as other elves, soldiers from the prince's own unit, joined them.
"...ah captain.." the voice was distant, but Legolas slowly placed it to be one of his soldiers, Pethon's. "You had us frightened this time."
The tone was light, but fear still lingered in the soldier's voice and Legolas wondered briefly as to why. But then Pethon turned his attention away from him, speaking to Thaladir, and the prince let his mind drift in hopes of detaching himself from the pain.
A hand fell on his shoulder and he blinked. He hadn't realized his eyes had closed. Thaladir's eyes met his. "Go henno nin, but we must move you now. We have to get to safer ground."
Legolas nodded. Normally he might have argued, said he could walk, but his tongue was thick in his mouth and the thought of standing on his injured leg stirred nausea in his gut. They laid out a stretcher beside him. Hands gently gripped his shoulders and back as others prepared to lift his legs. Drawing in a deep breath, he readied himself for the agony.
Thaladir counted, and then pain exploded. Legolas opened his mouth to cry out, but no sound came, or perhaps, he simply could not hear. His eyes watered and his body tried to force itself up, tried to reach to whatever had hold of his battered leg, but something or someone, held him back.
Finally, they let him rest. His chest heaved and his vision tunneled, icy hands were on his cheek once more but as the blue sky faded to black, he had not the strength to answer.
Thank you @DaughterOfElrond for saying you might read this cause I wanted to post it but also, it's JUST angst and I felt weird until you responded to my announcement haha XD
But yeah, basically I was bored at work and wanted angst cause it makes time go by faster lol I have a whole scenario in my head of what happened and whatnot but it's still super plotless (or maybe it's that it's more theme-less idk lol) Who knows if I'll write the whole thing.
Also, Pethon was in Festering Darkness so he's not completely new. but I doubt anyone remembers him. I had to go back and look up his name XP I'm trying to expand little by little because I love it when fics have a whole cast of warrior OCs surrounding Legolas so I kinda wanna make one of my own XD
Anyway! Thanks for reading! I'd love to hear yalls thoughts. And left me know if I should write a part two! And if you have a better idea for a title cause I could NOT think of anything!
