Zarek got out of Trudy's house before she came back.
He wouldn't be able to handle looking at her after what he just did - I just kissed Trudy fucking Green and she kissed me back! Not only that, but they were caught by Evangeline as well. Zarek messed it up with everyone after he finally thought he was getting his life back together.
Zarek's life crumbled on him yet again, with absolutely nobody to turn to this time around. Where am I gonna stay? What am I gonna eat? And most importantly, where am I gonna get my much needed drugs? Zarek had been suffering a severe headache and craving for drugs, he was relapsing, and his current situation wasn't helping his stability.
Zarek contemplated sneaking into what used to be his home since it was lunch time and that stupid guard was nowhere to be seen. He wasn't going to deny it; he was about to steal some money from his father to get him by at least for a little while. Zarek never stole anything, especially from his father despite being tempted numerous times (except for that ripped 500 dollar bills that Theodore was going to throw away anyways,) and it seemed like today Zarek already committed that crime once and was about to do it again.
Zarek did manage to get through the front gate, he was thrilled no one stopped him. Zarek barged into the house and straight up the glassy stairs, when he suddenly stopped in his tracks - something is off... He had no idea what was wrong though other than the eerie and empty house. The silence gave Zarek a shot of clearness as he stared at the glassy staircase and white marbles to think.
Zarek just reached the realization of his life. He finally figured out why his father was obsessed with the color white and glass, it was because he glorified honesty and transparency. He was too angry and upset with his father before to see what was right in front of him. As much as Zarek was proud of finally understanding his dad a bit better, he was so mad at himself for shattering his dad's trust in him in the worst way possible.
Enough! Zarek was sick of his endless lies and manipulations. He would be good, even if life decided to treat him like shit still. He turned around and left the house, determined on at least setting things right with his old friend - Ryan.
The walk to Ryan's house was tiring and exhausting, especially when Zarek's body was sleep, food, water, and drug deprived. He tood a deep breath, fixed his messy attire as much as he could, and knocked the wooden door. He didn't know what to say or how to react when he would see his friend, so he definitely wasn't prepared for the massive disappointment and sadness in what used to be joyful eyes.
"Are you okay?" Zarek couldn't help his worry, even though he probably looked ten times worse than his ex-friend.
"No - are you?" Ryan was worried as well, which calmed Zarek's anxiety of being rejected by his last resort. Ryan still cared for Zarek, and that just showed how much of a douchebag Zarek was for taking him for granted before.
"No, I'm not," Zarek looked down, electric green eyes ashamed as he muttered the next words; "Dad found out."
Ryan immediately understood. "Oh..."
"Yeah, but that's not why I'm here." Zarek stuffed his hands in his pockets, heart beating fast and about to faint from both exhaustion and nervousness. "I'm here to apologize."
"Don't, because I won't accept it." Ryan spat out, "You deserve what's happening to you, you're an awful person and I regret ever being friends with you."
Zarek was so shocked he had to take a step back from what he thought was a genuine friend. "What are you saying? I thought we were friends."
"I thought so too, until you punched me in the face!" His lips quivered as if he was a child holding back his tears. "I hope things work out with you and Evangeline, because they sure didn't with me."
Me and Evangeline? Ryan had no idea that Eva and Ashton were together, had he? Ashton was Ryan's best friend and it would kill Ryan to know that he was backstabbed by two of his closest people. Zarek could hurt Ryan with that info, but he chose not to because he was trying to be good. He had to fight back the satisfaction of seeing Ryan hurt - fuck's sake, being good is so much effort.
Zarek stood there, buttoning his lips not to spill something nasty when Ryan said the most unexpected words ever.
"I don't want you standing in my doorstep, so get the fuck away and never come back, you piece of shit." Ryan proceeded to slam the door closed in Zarek's face.
Zarek blinked a couple of times, his tired brain unable to process what just happened. He refused to believe what he just heard - is Ryan possessed? That was the only explanation.
Zarek was so dumbfounded, feeling so stupid and naive. What did you think, dumbass? Did you really think that by trying to be nice everything will magically be fixed? To be honest, Zarek felt like a blond bimbo at the moment.
Zarek's feelings were all directed towards rage. He stared at the sky and squinted his eyes - so even if I want to be good you'll still treat me like trash? Fine, then, I'll go and do what I want. You just watch.
Zarek was talking to 'God' just like he had once witnessed Evangeline do at Ryan's birthday party, the only difference was that he was not asking for forgiveness but was challenging the creator.
Zarek smirked as his empty soul screamed for mercy; next stop : the drug house.
Diana opened the door after Zarek's frantic knocking, grey eyes afraid and worried. "Hey, Zarek, is everything alright?"
"I need Hunter," Zarek hissed, stepping away and allowing his demon alter to take over.
"Did he do something to you?" Diana, Hunter's mom, whispered.
Zarek ignored her, shouting at the top of his lungs; "Hunter!"
Diana was startled at the noise, flinching away. A second later, Hunter was at the door, glaring at the intruding demon who stirred the peace. Hunter smiled at his mom, reassuring her worries away. "Go back to your reading, mom, I got this."
Hunter and his mom had a special bond, and Zarek was so jealous of how close they were which was weird. He shouldn't feel this way, he was a grown man.
Hunter made sure Diana was out of hearing range before he glared at Zarek with death in his grey eyes. "What the fuck, man? Haven't I told you not to come here?"
"Give me what I need and I'll go."
"Are you crazy?" Hunter exasperated, "I already told you that what I gave you last time was waaay more than enough."
"I'm not leaving until I get it," the cold demon spat out.
"If you want to kill yourself, fine. Here!" Hunter threw his palm in his pocket and fished out a similar bag to the last one with bluish-white powder inside. "You don't even have to pay me, it's all yours. Just go away."
"I wasn't intending to, in the first place." Zarek took the forbidden substance and hid it in his pocket, ignoring the pang that everyone wzs trying to cut ties because they didn't want anything to do with him and walked away. At least he gave me what I want and didn't slam the door in my face, Zarek's pathetic ego offered.
Zarek ruined so many lives, ended friendships, and destroyed marriages. He embrassed his dad, traumatized his sister, and was disrespectful to everyone. He stole an expensive painting, forced a girl to kiss him after technically kidnapping her, and killed his own child from a forbidden relationship. The list went on and on and on.
Zarek was bad for the environment, he needed to end himself, and what better way to do it than with his best frenemy; drugs!
Zarek was in his favorite alley. It was daylight, and in a public place where anyone could walk in on him but the raging need in his veins were much stronger and louder than any voice of reason. He sat on the ground like a true homeless, opened the bag of death, and like the addict he was he went right into the powder and breathed it in. The effect was immediate.
Suddenly it was nighttime. Zarek was cornered against the wall of his favorite alley, three gays surrounding him and touching him places no one was allowed to. Their dirty hands were ripping him of his dignity, and like a paralyzed body, Zarek couldn't do anything but watch and wait in horror.
The ugly memory was so triggering that Zarek's body balled up on it's own, burying his face in his knees and covering it with his hands like a crying kid. Salty and watery tears kept slipping out of his eyesockets and staining his jeans, Zarek had no idea where they were all coming from.
Zarek was so disgusted with himself as he cried his eyes out, but just like old times, someone touched his shoulder.
Zarek lifted his wet face from his knees, looking up at Ophelia's angelic face. He stood up and threw himself in her embrace. "Mom!" seven yearold Zarek screamed, hiccuping a bit but calming down still.
"What's the matter, my baby?" Ophelia said with her soothing voice, "Did Uncle Ben overwork you at the farm again?" Ophelia's delicate hands wiped at her son's tears before she jerked it away. "Oh, goodness! You're flaming hot. Did you get hit by the sun?"
Zarek was sweating so much that he was swimming in his own body fluid. "I need you, mommy," Zarek whimpered, stepping in and out of consciousness, "Don't leave me again. Please."
"But I can't stay, I don't belong here," Ophelia loosened her hug and tried walking away. "I have to go back where I came from."
"Then take me with you." Little Zarek tugged at his mommy, refusing to let go. "I'm so tired of never doing anything right."
Ophelia's bright smile was breathtaking, she offered her son her hand. "Then come with me, sweetie, we'll be safe and happy forever."
Zarek was about to take her hand and follow her to the light, when he heard something. "Wait, do you hear that?"
"Don't bother with it, sweetie, we have to hurry, not much time is left."
Zarek listened hard enough and he could distinguish the noise clearly; it was baby Violet crying! He couldn't leave her, she needed him, but the temptation of finally having his mom by his side and being safe and happy was much stronger.
Zarek only realized what was happening; he was dying from an overdose, and maybe - just maybe - he wouldn't be able to make it out alive.
