47 : Afraid
To say Eva was afraid was an understatement - Eva was mentally prepared for Zarek, not Hunter.
Hunter had closed the door, his signature smirk played around his lips as his grey eyes glistened at her. Those gestures sent at least a dozen of bad shivers down Eva's body. Hunter's gaze went over Eva's figure slowly, his heated eyes not giving anything away which added to the creepiness of the entire situation. Once Hunter was done racking her appearance he took a step towards her.
Eva flinched, holding a shaky hand up. "No," Eva whimpered, the scene too familiar to what happened with Zarek in the abandoned cafeteria that she couldn't contain herself. "Don't get close to me, stay away."
Hunter took a step back, black eyebrows raised and hands up in surrender. "Okay, chill, just want to talk to you."
"Since when do you just talk to me, Hunter?" Eva spat, voice loud enough to overpower the muffled music. "We never talked before in school so we're not friends, you made that clear yesterday when you ignored me in the coffee shop, so step away and let me go."
"You pissed about that?" Hunter shook his head, stuffing his clenched hands in the pockets of his black leather jacket. "You wanted me to talk to you while you were in a date with your little boyfriend? Like, really, Eva?"
"No, I'm not, I don't care anyways." Eva kept her eyes wary of any sudden movements. She wanted to escape that bathroom but Hunter was blocking the door with his big frame. "Ashton is waiting for me, so if you can let me go-"
"My bad, I forgot you're too coolheaded to give a shit about any of us, all except for your perfect, little boyfriend, right?" Hunter's tone was dripping with hostility, having his guard up and his muscles - that scared the air out of Eva everytime they flexed - tensed. "Well, I wouldn't worry about getting to him too much. He's sort of having the time of his life with someone else right now."
Eva refused to fall for Hunter's tricks, learning from her past experiences. She didn't know what Hunter's deal was, or why he was talking to her, or how he thought locking her in a bathroom was appropriate, but this 'chat' needed to end. "Hunter," Eva began, "Get away, let me leave, Ashton is-"
"You see, that's the thing," Hunter walked up to her, the bathroom too small he reached her after three steps. Eva backed herself against the wall, breath stuck in her lungs and lids forgetting how to blink. "You're so worried about your boyfriend when he doesn't give two shits about anything other than his throbbing dick."
Eva cringed at the strong language, but Hunter's proximity, his bulging chest muscles, his pineapple and leather smell were paralyzing her along with the fear. Hunter's lethal grey eyes dropped to her bare shoulders, her white crop top, and her jean shorts before he let out a heavy sigh and rubbed his temples.
"Listen, I don't mean no harm," Hunter's eyes snapped to her hair before they rested back on her face. "Consider this a friendly advice for helping me the other day: Ashton is not who you think he is, you shouldn't trust him."
Eva knew she was in a critical situation, yet she still blurted her honesty. "And I should trust you, a player, of all people?"
Hunter's jaw ticked. "Why do you think so low of me?"
"I know what you did to Alisha," Eva spat, pushing at Hunter's ripped chest but doing nothing to budge him and only feeling how hard his body was. Eva quickly retreated her hand, wanting to wash the feel of Hunter off of her fingertips more than anything. "You left her for some college girl. Why did you play Alisha like that?"
"I didn't-" Hunter cut himself off, stepping away and relishing Eva from his intoxicating smell. "You know what? Whatever, believe what you want, don't say I didn't warn you when the shit you're doing backfires on you."
Eva heaved out the biggest sigh of the night when Hunter stepped away and stormed out of the bathroom. Eva didn't want to stay in that tiny room any longer, so she walked out as well, ready to indulge herself in the middle of the party and momentarily forget about her twisted life. Once she stepped out, she saw Raven walk down that small hallway.
Eva put on her best smile, hiding how dazed and confused she was on the inside. "Raven," she breathed out, "Happy Birthday, I wish you all the best."
Raven smirked at her through her long eyelashes, her forest green eyes reminding Eva of Ryan. "Thanks, baby girl," Raven's voice was still something else, Eva's ears finding it challenging to ever get used to its deepness. "We were just cutting the cake, and don't worry, Ryan saved you a piece. Now tell me, did you come here empty handed? Because now is the appropriate time for some present exchanges."
Eva blushed deeply, her fingers weaving through her short hair in the back of her neck. "Yes, I did buy you and Ryan the latest Bring Me The Horizon album, since Ryan once mentioned that you two were a fan of theirs. I don't have it on me right now, I forgot it in Trudy's car."
"That's cute," Raven cooed, forest green eyes darkening. "That's not what I meant though, baby girl. The ideal present would be something like... a kiss?"
It all happened too fast for Eva to stop it or even realize it. Raven leaned and pressed a tender kiss on Eva's lips, fluttering her eyes closed at the contact and pulling away. Eva's eyes were wide open, shock striking her and stopping her brain cells from processing any more information. Did she just...
There went Eva's second kiss, stolen just like the first one.
Eva's hazel eyes swirled with tears, pushing Raven and sprinting away, not giving any chance to Raven to justify herself. I hate this so much, why did I come to this party? Ashton waiting for her didn't matter anymore, Eva just needed to get away and go back home. Eva made it out of the house, finally breathing some fresh air that helped sober up her reason and stop her from walking home all alone. Eva got out her phone, the slightest cold breeze brushing through the naked thighs she still wasn't used to have on display, and decided to call Trudy to drive her instead. It was only then did Eva notice Trudy's abbreviated text message on the cracked screen.
"Went home. Sorry."
Eva palmed her forehead, her red bangs tickling the skin between her fingers. "Great," she muttered, staring at the sky, "This must be my punishment for all what I have done. Please, god, forgive me." Eva had lied about her love life, used Hannah's vulnerability, and was wearing inappropriate clothes - she had it coming. She intertwined her fingers together and held her hand by her chest, closing her eyes. "Please, please, have mercy on me-"
"What are you doing?"
Eva's eyes snapped open, dreading this moment despite mentally prepping herself for it. Zarek was staring at her, one inquisitive eyebrow up and genuine curiosity in his electric green eyes.
"Are you praying?" Zarek stuffed his hands in his black hoodie, the said color paling his skin and contrasting his blond hair. Zarek's legs were shifting, almost as if he was too self-conscious or uncomfortable to stand under her gaze.
"Don't talk to me." Eva glared at him. She didn't forget his little snap back at the mall or the abandoned cafeteria or the hallway of their highschool or the dark alley. Every little bad thing Zarek had ever done to her was engraved in the inside of her skull, never to be forgotten or to be let go of. Eva knew that holding to grudges wasn't healthy, that she should forgive and move on, and she would've if Zarek didn't open her eyes to reality. There's no place for the good in this world.
"Damn, what's your problem?" Zarek fired back. He took a deep breath and looked around at the teens making their way to Ryan's home, containing his short temper. "Do you need a ride?"
"What?" Eva eyed Zarek - is this one of his plans? Eva couldn't risk anything, she already lost so much of herself to Zarek. "No, I can't trust you. Just get lost already."
"Suit yourself." Zarek shrugged, slipping his black hood on, covering most of his edgy face, and walked away.
Eva panicked. "Wait!" He really was her last resort to get home - Trudy left her, it was awkward with Ryan, she didn't want to look for Ashton in case she ran into Raven - and she'd rather be with him than to walk alone for any stranger to approach her. At least she knew him by now so she had an idea of what to expect and whatnot. "Yes, I need a ride." I'm already regretting this. "Please?"
"Fine, follow me," Zarek didn't even stop at her call or glance back as he continued to walk. "But I have someone to take care of first before I drop you off."
