24 : Blowing Off Some Steam
Trudy covered her face with her pillow, shielding the sunlight from her puffy eyes. "Go away," she mumbled, so annoyed at her best friend, "Leave me be."
Evangeline ignored her, opening the curtains and letting the sunshine peak at the dusty room for the first time in what seemed like an eternity. "Get up," Eva ordered, hazel eyes dominant, "You have been in that bed for four days."
"No," Trudy groaned when Eva pulled the sheets away, "Give it back, it's too cold."
"It's not," Eva said, "The heating system is on - you're boiling!" Eva exclaimed when she touched Trudy, cringing away, "And you smell like a corpse. C'mon, get up and take a shower, you'll feel better."
Groaning and grunting, Trudy forced herself up, only because she did stink like a dead body. After the shower, Trudy had to admit that she was already feeling better and refreshed. When she stepped out of the bathroom, she noticed that Eva changed her bed sheets and cleaned her room, even preparing Trudy's clothes to wear after the shower. Evangeline was nowhere in sight, however.
As Trudy dropped the towel to the ground and slipped on her bra and underwear, she couldn't help but feel thankful to have Evangeline by her side. It felt nice to have someone next to her, taking care of her, and being genuinely interested in her well-being. Totally different from her sister, who used every second to make fun of her downfall, reminding her of her weakness, and going as far as stopping her from seeking help, planting toxic thoughts about her self in her mind.
Trudy pulled up the grey sweatpants to her waist, her head going through the burgundy shirt. She didn't manage to pull the shirt down when Evangeline entered, giving her a flash of her chest.
"Um, I saw nothing," Eva mumbled, a pink blush taking over her freckled cheeks. Eva was holding a tray. She placed it on Trudy's red wooded nightstand that was all the way from Japan. The bread on the plate was fresh from the toaster, the jelly and jam screaming at Trudy to duck her head in them. Even though her body was demanding food, her stomach twisted in disgust at its sight.
"C'mon, eat."
"Ugh, no," Trudy said, sitting on her bed, "I don't feel like it."
Eva's hazel eyes ran over Trudy's thin body. "You lost a lot of weight, you have to make up for it."
"No, I didn't," Trudy denied, even though the loose sweatpants around her waist were proof enough. She played with her falling hair, her aching scalp still suffering from when Justin brutally pulled at it. "My stomach is still upset."
"Right, food poisoning," Eva said, "But you can't starve yourself."
Trudy's stomach wasn't upset because she ate something rotten - other than her broken dignity - but because she needed an excuse for all the puking she did. She wasn't puking voluntarily, of course, but her stomach was just knotted and upset. It was in her favor, after all, losing a few pounds.
However, something changed in the way Trudy viewed Evangeline. Trudy looked at Evangeline with new eyes. Evangeline was the only one who cared enough about her that she came to her house, even though Eva had no idea what really happened. None of Trudy's fake friends at school bothered a single call, other than Justin, who was the reason she was in this mess, so he didn't count.
Even though Evangeline seemed like she cared about Trudy, Trudy couldn't tell her what happened. Not after she told Sandra and regretted it. She wouldn't give anyone the pleasure of witnessing her weakness again, giving them the advantage of rubbing it in her face whenever they felt like it.
"I have so much to tell you," Eva sighed softly, her hazel eyes looking through the window to the Green's exotic garden.
Here she goes, Trudy thought bitterly, whatever new image she had of Eva vanishing in the air. She was about to use her again, venting about her life as usual. Trudy almost got raped, and she wasn't about to exaggerate. Trudy thought Eva was too dramatic, making a fuss about every little thing that happened in her pathetic life.
Still, Trudy was eager to know what happened while she was gone. She picked at the toast until it got cold, yet Eva wasn't even close to being done.
"-and the locker wouldn't open. I heard these two girls talking about how Ashton rejected Wendy and how Anna and Hunter are back together. Then Ryan completely ignored me. But I clashed into Alisha -ugh- and she made a huge scene about it." Eva said, shooting many information at Trudy's face all at once. Trudy kept up with ease, being used to her friend's ranting mode.
Eva suddenly slowed down, "Did you know that Zarek and Alisha are together?"
Now this is juicy, Trudy thought. Zarek was such a bastard, using family against her? Trudy wouldn't even know how to react if someone dated Sandra just to spite her. It would have been pure horror. "No," she said, "How did you find out?"
"They kissed in front of me." Evangeline's face fell for a second, as if the hideous image flashed in her mind. "And then he pushed me against the locker, threatening to make my life hell."
Trudy's eyes widened a bit. "He did that in front of the whole school?"
With glassy eyes, Eva nodded.
Everyone must be talking about Eva now, especially since everyone heard that Eva rejected him for the second time. The whole ordeal would boost up Eva's popularity. When Trudy remembered how much of a coward her boyfriend was when he faced Zarek, she almost winced. Trudy's reputation was RIP.
"Hey, complete change of subject," Eva said, "What's my locker combination? I keep forgetting it."
"Its twelfth January," Trudy shrugged, "12-1."
"Silly me!" Eva chuckled, "I thought it was January twelfth, 1-12." She nudged Trudy. "Thanks, I don't know what I would've done without you."
Something flourished inside Trudy's heart, a sensation so nice it almost made her chirp. She was needed, useful for something. However, she didn't let her feelings distract her. "Tell me, what happened afterwards?"
I don't care, Trudy convinced herself, I'm just curious.
"I ran away," Eva admitted, "And Ashton followed me. He was such a gentleman."
"So nothing beside the kiss happened," Trudy concluded, a hint of boredom in her voice. She was annoyed with Zarek's techniques, if not a bit dissapointed. Zarek was so immature. He had been giving Eva empty threats since day one, yet no actual acts. He should step up his game, doing something major and getting it over with already.
"Nothing?" Eva exclaimed, "He bullied me in front of the whole school, Trudy!"
"You know what I meant," Trudy shrugged, "And Ashton is not a gentleman. He's a jerk, just like the rest of them." Justin was a solid proof of that.
"He was the only one that comforted me," Eva mumbled, cheeks heating up.
"Yet he didn't defend you, even though he witnessed it all." Trudy conquered, "He's a pussy," Just like Justin.
"What about Justin?"
Oops - she said that out loud. "Nothing," she quickly said, "It's just that he's really clingy. Why can't he understand that we broke up?"
"Because he actually loves you," Eva said, hazel eyes dreamy, "Unlike Zarek."
Actually, Zarek's feelings - no matter what they were exactly - were much, much stronger than whatever Justin felt about Trudy. Justin was such a mistake in her life, she feared he would be always haunting her, like a black dot in the records. She already had one, and it seemed like her sister got new dirt on her.
Sandra was always flaunting Trudy's flaws around, shattering Trudy's confidence whenever she was brave enough to defy her. Deep inside, Trudy knew why Sandra would use Justin's abuse against her - for once, Sandra was actually jealous. Justin was so much into Trudy it was ridiculous, yet Sanderson was so detached from Sandra, treating her with disdain as if she was replaceable - which she kind of was - while Sandra clawed at him with her teath and neatly manicured nails.
Sandra was falling deeper everyday for Sanderson while he was losing his interest every passing second. Justin was everything that Sanderson wasn't, yet Sanderson would never raise a hand on a girl. Talk about perfect boyfriends, Trudy scoffed.
At the thought of her - like a devil - Sandra appeared. Her makeup-heavy face peaked inside, her model-worthy figure was flawless in an olive green, Michael Lo Sordo mini skirt and a burgundy, Dolce And Gabanna crop top, with black knee high boots and a black, long blazer hanging on her arm - she was gorgeous.
The devil smirked, taking in Trudy's lazy outfit, the smirk turned into a disgusted scowl when she noticed Eva's H&M oversized hoodie, Eva's Forever 21 mom jeans underneath. Sandra's turquoise blue eyes were sharp and full of judgement as she glared the poor girl down. "Trudy, get ready. You're going to a party with me."
Eva was seemingly oblivious to Sandra's judgment and disgust towards her, actually smiling at Sandra. "That's a really good idea. Trudy, you should totally go."
Trudy complemented it in her head. "Who's the party host?"
Sandra shrugged. "Some weed supplier from your school. I don't know him, but he's good friends with Sanderson."
"Weed supplier?" Eva choked on her spit, her hazel eyes bulged. "I thought that kind of stuff happens in the movies only."
Sandra rolled her eyes, not caring enough to reply. Good, Trudy thought, Nothing nice can come out of that mouth anyways.
"Yeah, I don't know about that..." Trudy pretended to fix something in her nails, hiding her discomfort. She wasn't ready to be anywhere Justin might be, she just couldn't take that risk.
"You're going or not?" Sandra snapped, flipping her silky semi-blond hair, her impatience displayed in her feet tapping on the imported tiles from Germany.
Trudy groaned in annoyance, startling Eva who probably never witnessed the sisters like this. "You're acting like you're doing me a favor by inviting me along, while it's the other way around. We both know our parents would never let you go to a party without me." It was a common rule in the Green family that they couldn't attend a party all alone, but with each other just in case something happened.
Sandra's turquoise blue eyes bulged, her body a threatening stance. "Don't make me regret ever wanting to help you blow off some steam. Honestly, you're better off sulking like a loser in your room all alone - that's the only thing you know how to do anyways."
"She's not alone, she's with me." Trudy's heart fluttered at Eva's words, warming her up from the inside.
Sandra gave a wicked smile, her turquoise blue eyes smug. "You're really gullible, Eva," Sandra tutted, shaking her head in mock sympathy, "If only you knew what kind of things Trudy's doing-"
"Fine," Trudy interrupted, defeated, "I'm going with you."
Sandra was pleased, triumph oozing out of her. "That's what I thought." With a flaunt of her hair, Sandra walked out of the room, leaving the door open - something that ticked Trudy everytime.
Eva swirled her red hair around her finger. "Well, I guess I'll just go home."
Eva was standing from the luxurious bed when Trudy caught her arm. "No," Trudy pleaded, feeling so clingy and vulnerable, "You should go with me." Justin would never attempt something while Eva was around because he respected her. Yet he doesn't respect me.
"What about my mom?"
"Just tell her you're sleeping over,"
Trudy knew what she was asking - the impossible. Evangeline West never associated herself in parties and night outings, because she was reserved and religious. So when Eva cupped Trudy's hands, smiling at her and agreed to go just for her something flourished inside of her chest.
Something that Trudy could only describe as gratitude mixed with guilt; the first for all the things Eva was doing for Trudy and the second for all the things Trudy had been plotting against her friend.
Trudy is coming around, finally realizing her mistake. how do you feel about that?
