17 : Confrontation (2/2)
Zarek threw his roll away as fast as he could and swallowed down the fog, making his eyes water.
In the mean time, Evangeline West stepped out of her mother's car and headed towards Zarek. The knot between Eva's auburn eyebrows weren't a good sign.
Still tearing, Zarek maintained a leveled gaze. Zarek didn't care two shits about Eva's opinion of his smoking, or the promise he broke. He just didn't want to poison her virgin lungs. Yes, that was what it was about.
Her determined, hazel eyes were fixed at him, piercing their way through Zarek's barriers. Something stirred deep inside Zarek's dark soul, yet it was too far away and lost, so it wasn't about to resurface any time soon.
Eva walked up to him, her strote was confident and her hazel eyes so determined it distressed Zarek's sexual tension and almost drove him off the edge. She stopped in front of him, her shoulders held high and her chin higher.
She was steering the situation, in control. It was different from her usual innocence, and Zarek loved this side of her.
"Congratulations, Zarek Black." Eva's usual soft voice was close to a hiss than ever before. "You won this round."
So many questions were roaming Zarek's head but he pushed them all aside but one important one. "What are you doing here so late?" he asked, "You should get home, it's not safe,"
She eyed him up and down. "Indeed." Zarek could swear she referred to him, and he couldn't disagree.
"Wow," Alisha bit in desperately, "Looks like someone passed her bedtime." When no one joined in to laugh, Alisha nudged Hunter. Hunter glared at her, and she immediately shut up, eying her cousin with pure envy.
Eva's hazel eyes switched to Alisha for barely a moment, almost feeling sorry for her. Eva's eyes hardened at the sight of Hunter, and she shook her head in disgust, looking back at Zarek.
Zarek suspected she knew about the bet. "What did I do?"
Eva chuckled despite her hostile glare. "You're asking me that?" she said, her hazel eyes wandering away, "God, you made me hate you even more."
"I'm losing my patience here." Zarek hated rotating around the facts. He figured threatening Eva would remind her of what he was capable of, even though Zarek loved how confident Eva was at the moment. "Tell me what I did wrong and you don't have to talk to me again."
"Don't play dumb," Eva spat, "That's why I rejected you in the first place."
Evangeline was pushing it way too far, and Zarek had one of two options; walk out on her, that was if he was able to contain his throbbing fist, or he could mouth her off and lose her for good.
However, for the sake of her soft, red hair that danced against the wind, Zarek decided to go with neither. Zarek swallowed whatever he was about to spit on her, quite literally, and kept his mouth shut.
Evangeline ran her gentle fingers through her silky hair, absorbing all of Zarek's rage with the simple action. She looked away, shaking her head. "It's not your fault though, it's mine."
Her smooth jaw tightened as her angry, hazel eyes met his electric green ones. "I was the one believing your trash. I should have never let you so close to me again. I regret it. I shouldn't have showed up that day in the coffee shop too. I wish I never knew you. Hell, I wish I never came to Dessertville in the first place."
Zarek took a deep breath and looked her straight in the eye. "You're just a motherfucking whore. Don't think too high of yourself just because I have an erection over you."
Evangeline's hazel eyes widened at the hurtful words, and Zarek had a feeling that Hunter and Alisha were surprised too, but not Zarek. Those words were coming from Zarek's heart, and it felt good to finally release them.
He was so done of putting up with Eva's shit just because she couldn't handle his real self. So what if he showed her his ugly side? It was the right thing to do, but somehow, nobody wanted the truth. Instead, everyone preferred a sugarcoated, false version.
Eva gaped at the beast before she blinked and held her chin high - something that Zarek hated. Evangeline was so composed and perfect, always holding back herself and showing her best attitude, which was another definition of fake.
Eva bit on her pink lips, desperately trying to stop herself from crying. At that moment, she looked like a broken, little kid. The look might have left an impact on Zarek, but he wasn't about to stop.
"And you know what?" Zarek went on, "I thought you were understanding and helpful - different, but you turned out to be an egotistic bitch."
"An egotistic bitch?" Eva choked on her spit, a tear having escaped. "What have I ever done to you? Aren't you the one going around and making bets?"
So this is about the bet. Zarek called it at first, but he kind of hoped she wouldn't know just yet. Hunter snickered in the background, and all what Zarek wanted to do was punch him. However, it wasn't Hunter's fault, but solely Zarek's.
He kept a cold, careless gaze. "Who told you?"
Eva looked at him with trembling lips and teary eyes. "I hate you," she hissed.
Her words reminded Zarek of his sister, Violet. Zarek wondered why all the females that he actually cared about had one thing in common; hating him. Zarek could pinpoint various reasons why, starting with his controlling and manipulating attitude all the way to his brutal and hurtful manners. Still, he expected something from them in return.
Perhaps gratitude, or even... love.
Eva wiped off her tears, sniffing them back in. "Leave me alone. Never talk to me again."
Despite what Evangeline just said, she didn't leave. Which meant that she still had something for Zarek. Zarek could tell she wanted him to deny it all, to apologize for everything, and to promise her loyalty. But that would never have happened.
Zarek pushed his feelings aside, as usual, and maintained eye contact, very determined on breaking Evangeline's every piece. "You just did me a favor. I've been wanting to get rid of you anyways, 'cause my girlfriend told me not to have female friends."
At the mention of the girlfriend, Eva's eyes widened in horror. She was still naive enough to take the bait. Zarek didn't know if he should praise himself for his advanced manipulative skills, or if he should be ashamed of it. Nonetheless, Zarek embraced it, not failing to pull it out when it was needed.
Eva composed herself again, her posture was confident but her broken, hazel eyes and blushed, freckled cheeks gave her away. "I'm gonna tell you one last thing."
"Oh yeah?" Zarek smiled at his success, sliding his hands in his pockets. "Hit me."
"You're not a gentleman," Eva accused, her auburn eyebrows knotted, "You are not even a man to begin with."
Zarek didn't expect that Eva's words would stung him, or at least that hard. If it was a guy then he would have spat out a tooth before he even finished his sentence. Unfortunately for Zarek, Eva was not a guy, she was a girl. And Zarek avoided hitting girls.
Talk about being a man, Zarek growled to himself.
Nonetheless, Zarek was about to prove to her that he was a man. "Wanna show you my dick?"
Eva showed surprise for just a second. "That's the problem," she hissed, "You think your tough with the size of it, but no! It's about your morals." She looked away and proceeded to mumble; "And apparently, you got neither..."
Zarek heard her, a nerve in his neck popped. His hands balled up inside his pockets and he was ready to launch. A girl or not, she had it coming. He wasn't about to hit her, but he was gonna show her just how big of a man he was. Before Zarek even knew it, he got his hands out of his pockets and was ready to pull down his pants.
Zarek glared down at her, electric green eyes snapped. "I'll fuck you with my hard dick and I'll show you what a gentleman I am."
Zarek heard Alisha's gasp as he slipped his pants down, showing the black Calvin Klein underwear waist band. Hunter stepped in and stopped him from going any further.
"Take it easy, dude," Hunter eased. He glanced at Eva, flashing her an apologetic smile. "I think it's passed your curfew, nah?"
The horror in Eva's eyes was indescribable. She barely heard Hunter as she looked at Zarek's violent eyes in disbelief. She couldn't utter a word as she took a step back and ran to her mother's car. Eva's hand rummaged through her pocket for her car keys. She almost dropped them twice before she finally took off.
Taught her right, Zarek chuckled to himself.
Frankly, if Hunter didn't intervene, Zarek had no idea what could've happened. It was one of these moments when his rage overtook him and blinded him completely. He wasn't aware of anything that happened, as if someone possessed him and acted for him.
Perhaps the devil?
It took Zarek a moment to recall what happened, and as soon as he did, he immediately regretted it. His pale hands tugged at his blond hair, eyes closed. "Shit," he muttered, "I just ruined everything,"
Hunter smirked, grey eyes mischievous. His pearly whites were on display. "Guess the bet is off for real now, huh?"
Hunter's fake mask was off, and the gentleman he had in him was gone. Hunter only intervened to show off, and Zarek started to get more and more convinced that gentlemen really ruled.
Do gentlemen really rule?
