Connor's -19th Birthday
Here's a perfect birthday party for the perfect boi
I wrote this in like 2 hours or something? I hope you guys enjoy it.
The front door to the home opened. "Hey, Connor." Hank struggled to remove his shoes while holding the bulky bag he was carrying. He held the handles of the bag, and secured the heavy bottom with another hand.
"Hello Lieutenant." The RK800 looked away from the television screen. He was massaging Sumo's stomach on the couch. "What's in the bag?" He asked curiously. Hank carried plastic bag and brought it to the dining room table not too far away. This sent Sumo barreling after him in an attempt to eat whatever he had brought home.
"Geez, call me Hank. It's been a year now." He retorted with a smile on his face. He began unraveling the gift he bought for Connor. A chord struck in Hank's heart as he was brought back to a time long ago, celebrating a similar occasion. Normally he would be upset about these memories, but now he was content with them. Connor gave him a sense of peace when it came to the past.
The Android stood up from the couch. "Sure, Hank. But you didn't answer my question." He began nearing closer to the suspicious bag. Hank allowed him to step closer.
"Have patience, will ya?" Connor was now watching Hank as he removed the heavy box from inside the bag. Hank placed the box on the table and swiftly turned around it around, allowing it to face Connor. He removed the top of the box, revealing a blue and white frosted birthday cake. Connor observed it for a second. A goofy smile grew on his face as he read it out loud.
"'Happy 1 Year Connor'." His eyes flickered up from the carefully decorated cake to Hank, then back down again. "Thank you Hank, but," Connor tried to speak but he was at a loss for words.
"I don't understand." Connor was never given this much attention. Or, he guessed you could describe it as love. He'd never gotten this much love from anyone before.
Hank threw him a confused glance before turning around to find where he kept his utensils and plates. "Whaddya mean you don't understand? It's your birthday." Finding a simple knife, he began reminiscing on old memories. "Remember way back when, when you told me told me your creation date?" Hank gestured with his empty hand for Connor to sit down.
"Oh. But, aren't birthdays only celebrated amongst humans?" He obliged to Hank's request, but continued asking questions. Normally Hank would scold Connor for asking an excessive amount of questions, but he seemed to be in a good mood.
"Now that Androids are free, I don't think so. And you deserve it." Hank set down the knife and eventually found a single birthday candle in a nearby drawer next to a lighter.
"I'm flattered you think so kindly of me." Connor studied the materials he was grabbing. "What are you planning on doing?"
"Well. Usually during birthday parties, the person of interest celebrates by eating cake." Hank began to explain with patience. He was abruptly thrown back to a time where he would continuously be forced answer questions like these.
"What's the candle for?" The Android watched Hank stick said candle in the center of the cake and light it with the lighter.
Hank put the lighter back to where it was and sat down across from Connor. "The candles represent how many years the person has been alive for. They blow out the candle while making a wish." Sumo quickly sat on top of Hank's feet.
Hank already saw Connor open his mouth to ask another question. "Don't ask why. I don't know."
"Okay, Hank." He bashfully smiled. He paused, just gazing down at the cake.
Hank grew worried. "Somethin' wrong?" He watched the candlelight flicker in the dark pupils of Connor's eyes. He always got this stare when he was deep in thought. It was easy to distinguish after a few hours with him.
"No. It's just- You know I can't eat, right?" Connor looked back up at Hank, noticing the small smile on his face.
"Oh yeah I definitely know that. I mainly bought this for myself." Hank laughed at that, resting his arms on the tabletop. "But you could do that analyzing-thingy, right?"
Connor raised his eyebrows in amusement. "Sure Hank. I'll do the 'analyzing-thingy'."
Hank returned his mocking tone with an eye-roll. "Shut up. Now c'mon, make a wish and blow out the candle. But don't say it out loud." It was an odd ritual, but Connor followed it. He shut his eyes and wished for the first thing that came to mind.
"I wish for Hank, Sumo, and I to be happy for the rest of our days."
With his wish complete, he blew out the single candle.
"Hell yeah, time to eat!" Hank quickly began to cut a slice out of the cake and place it onto the plate he grabbed. Sumo's snout emerged from underneath the table, sniffing for any food he would be able to steal. Connor smiled and tried replicating a human laugh. Even if it's been a year since he deviated, he still gets difficulty when trying to acting human-like. Without any warning, a dollop of frosting was spread on his nose.
"Wh-" Connor quickly swiped the frosting away from his face. He looked up to see Hank grinning.
He gestured to Connor. "There's your share. Enjoy." Connor just smiled and glanced at Sumo's paw now resting by Hank's plate.
"Thanks, Hank. I will." Like Hank suggested, he analyzed the sample of frosting.
After receiving the sample results, Connor smirked at him. "Hank, based on your eating habits..." He switched his voice to his 'mechanical' tone. "You really shouldn't eat that."
"Shut up, you." Hank shoveled down a large chunk of his slice, holding back a laugh.
Connor let out a genuine laugh of his own. "Thank you for this celebration, Hank. I enjoyed it."
