Theater (pt. 2)
(Written before rehearsal)
Met with the director. Someone had a bunch of conflicts that where not previously mentioned and so she moved that person to ensemble. Conveniently, apparently that roll was the one she wanted me to have so I now have a character. I have a feeling though that it wasn't the roll she wanted me to get and I only got it because my mom messaged her after the cast list came out to see if the off-nights where lumbed with the "chorus." Director said no, and didn't know chorus was put instead of ensemble.
She mentioned how she felt the cast list was wrong and there was alot of things with it she didn't like (some characters being casted, ensemble being called chorus, many names being misspelled) because it was made with her, the choreographer, vocal coach, and band director, and the band director wrote and posted the cast list.
She didn't like how ensemble was put as chorus, and later changed that and added names for the ensemble like if they had characters, and fixed misspellings.
It was weird. She mentioned how ensemble had "strong singers and dancers," while it was also the people who didn't have parts fit them, and it literally was just left overs which just ended up having a few talented people, while also having people who can't sing or dance, or didn't show up to auditions.
Apparently they do casting by one role at a time and if someone who is good doesn't end up as a roll they (the casting crew) had wrote them down as they where just put in chorus.
Interesting.
Apparently me getting ensemble was something on her mind that was bothering her since the cast list came out and she wanted me to have a character but for that same character other people had other people pop out to them, and of course they did because the others got to go up many times while I only did once. If people get to show themselves multiple times, regardless of talent they will be more memorable and stick out more.
She didn't explain why a role was left single casted while there was way more cast than characters. I get if it's because they could only envision one person doing it well, but they could've moved it arround so that all characters had two actors, especially because the director says theater is a learning experience. How is it a learning experience if they cast by taking away someone's ability to learn.
She mentioned how she's always learning and how she's considering doing the audition process differently and maybe casting different next time. Only time will tell.
There's alot more she said but those are just what stuck out and what I remember.
(After rehearsal)
Rehearsal went fine. Just learned though that the person who is now my double cast (play the same character as), who I don't have the best history with, doesn't go to school. At all.
They're enrolled in school, but haven't shown up to a single day, 0.0 average. Hasn't shown up to school since starting Highschool, and would be a junior now but hasn't done anything.
Someone else's parent who also knows the kid from the same place I do and they (the parent at least) doesn't like the kid, and is going to inform the director. The rule is if you don't show up to school you can't show up for rehearsal and they haven't done school for three years. I thought they were now enrolled in an online school but no, and with no grade they can't transfer to it.
I kinda feel bad for them, but at the same time I'm not sure. They need help, their mom is crazy (sued the school to keep her kid enrolled even though they haven't gone to a single day of school), so I'm not sure if they'll ever get it.
