Today's Date

Canon Compliant, Fluff

Tighnari never particularly cared for the seasons. He liked them all in moderation, not having a favorite or a least favorite (although summer was probably his top contender for the latter).

In a similar sense, it didn't matter to Tighnari when Cyno visited. Be it an early winter's morning or a later summer evening, the only thing that the forest watcher concerned himself with was how elated he was to see a familiar face at his door and making sure he felt right at home.

Normally, he'd visit twice a month, give or take. But as of late, the visits grew more infrequent. Twice a month changed into once a month, once a month turned into once every two months, and now here he was at the three month mark with no Cyno in sight.

The day was rather uneventful- just the usual patrol route combined with some lessons for Collei, and before he knew it, the moon was already high into the sky by the time he had finally retired into his hut for the night. Right as Tighnari was about to fall asleep for the night, his ears picked up a sound they hadn't heard for a while: The familiar sound of bare feet slapping against wooden paths resonated throughout the forest. It was a sound that Tighnari would never fail to recognize- because out of all the people he knew, there was only one who was dumb enough to trek through the entirety of sumeru- ranging from its arid deserts to the humid rainforests- all without shoes.

The forest watcher's eyes flickered open and his tail swished as he stared at the door in anticipation, sitting up. The footsteps grew louder with each passing second- until finally, the curtain to his hut was opened. "You're here awfully late into the day." Tighnari mused, half-lidded eyes watching as Cyno stepped into his living quarters. "What gives?"

Cyno wasted no time shrugging off his cloak and setting his belongings aside. "I couldn't wait till tomorrow."

"That eager to see me?" Tighnari scooted over to the other side of his bed, patting the empty space beside him in an invitation. "The General Mahamatra must have something important to discuss with me."

Nodding his head, Cyno approached the bed, taking a seat next to Tighnari. "Spot on as usual, Chief Forest Watcher."

Tighnari pursed his lips together. He was only teasing earlier- never in a million years would he have guessed that Cyno had actually stopped by to talk business for a change. Nevertheless, he turned himself so he was facing Cyno head on, his face contorted in a concerned expression. "What's troubling you?" He rested his elbow on his thigh, propping his head atop his hand as his green eyes peered inquisitively, almost impatiently, at his companion.

"Are you today's date?" Tighnari thought he somehow misheard Cyno at first- until he heard what the general had to say next. "Because you're a 10/10."

The two of them sat in silence for a few, achingly long moments, accompanied by the occasional chirping of a dusk bird. Tighnari could only stare at Cyno, dumbfounded, watching as his normal poker face slowly cracked away with a brief chuckle here and there.

Everything hit him all at once, and suddenly, Tighnari felt more tired than ever, falling back onto the bed with a dull thump. "You're so full of shit, Cyno." Maybe he was going delusional with how tired he was, but even Tighnari felt himself lose his composure a little- promptly turning away in order to hide his chuckling before he gave Cyno any ideas.

Unfortunately, it was too little, too late. "Did I just hear a laugh?" Cyno prodded his shoulder, eyes wide in a silent admiration. "You think it's funny!"

Tighnari swatted his hand away, stifling his laughter as best as he could. "I'm not laughing at your joke; I'm laughing at you."

Tighnari didn't need to see Cyno to know he was grinning from ear to ear. "Okay, but you're laughing at me because I said something funny, so it counts." he reasoned.

"No," he groaned. "I'm laughing at you because I can't believe you seriously came all this way just for a joke." Tighnari took a second or so to think. "Actually, scratch that- that's pretty in character for you."

"Well, I think it was worth it." Tighnari felt the bed shift as Cyno laid down next to him. They always shared a bed whenever he came over- but yet, it was something that Tighnari could never quite get used to.

"And I think that you are insufferable," Tighnari huffed. Despite the words being said, he spoke them softly, with all the fondness in the world.

"Aww, don't be like that." Cyno hummed cheekily. "You know you love me~"

He did, unfortunately.

"Yeah, yeah, keep telling yourself that." Tighnari rolled his eyes in an amused manner, playfully flicking Cyno with his tail.

But that was something Cyno didn't need to know just yet.
