Kannamma's POV!

Everything happened so fast. Now, we are in railway station waiting for the train. This one week passed arranging the things for their wedding. We invited everyone in chennai whom we know. Jo told me that she'll come on wedding day as she can't took off for so long.

We are going to our native because of my thatha's idea. I love my native so much!

First, we settled in our seats. We girls made a good companies for each other. I love travelling in train.

But near our seats, there are three men who looks like drunk. The smell was nauseating us. So Ilakya called Kavin to take care of them.

Kavin, Kathir, and my anna came within 10 mins. Kavin talked with them so politely but they talked like teasing him. He dragged one of them alone and talked with him. Then they left without any words.

I wonder what he told them!

Then we started talking random things. During the whole time, Kavin watched me.. I don't know why I felt his glance was somewhat different now.. He was smiling the whole time.

During our talks, I started narrating about my native. But I zoned out while telling about my aththa (aunt). I love her a lot. She loves me too more than anything. She have two sons.

One is Prathap machan and another one is Rama Krishnan. Prathap machan was married 2 years ago to his love. He was gifted with a baby girl a year ago but he and his wife poorvi got died in an accident before 8 months. Now his baby girl sanjana is 1 year old.

Ram was not in India since then. Moreover, he is not a fan of India. So he went abroad. Now my aththai only taking care of sanju with Mama.

I was so close with Prathap machan. He was more than a friend to me. And talking about my aththa, she's such a sweet lady. But lost her smile when her first son left her to heaven and her second son left her to abroad. Now she is living her life only for the sake of her grandchild and with the hope one day, ram will come to India and live with her.

Ram is not a bad guy though. He hates living here as his only lovely brother left him. He can't tolerate his lose. So he went abroad just to relax his mind.

I was upset thinking about my aththai but Kavin diverted me by giving coffee for us. Coffee is one my best stress busters!

After that, we all chit chatted happily! The night in train was one of the unforgettable memories I have ever had.

We reached Thirunelveli early morning. We went to our native by one of my Anna's friend's car.

As soon as entering our home, we slept not caring about anything! I got up at past 7. Because we can't sleep here so long as everyone will scold us.

Already some of our relatives are here. Day after tomorrow is Thirumangalyam ponn urukuthal function.

My aththai is coming today from her village which is nearby only.

We had our breakfast. Then we were chit chatting sitting in thinnai(platform which built in front of traditional houses)

That time my aththai came and her face lighten up seeing me.

Haiiii my dear kannuuu!! Saying this my aththai engulfed me in a tight hug. I too hugged her too.

You're still looking same. My beauty queen 😘  Saying this, she kissed my cheeks.

Enough enough.. I'm also here!😒 Maya said while pouting which earned a chuckle from us.

Aww! You too da darling.. Come! I bought your favorite halwa! My aththai said. Maya's face lighten up hearing the word halwa.

My aththai is always great!😘 saying this maya kissed her.

Where is Mama and sanju? I asked.

Sanju is with your mama da. They both were coming behind me. I literally ran in the excitement to see you both my lovelies!😍. She said like a small child. She's always like this only. Very jovial and easy going. But fate played in her children's life.

Within 2 minutes, My mama came with sanjana in his hands. She is one year old. I didn't see her since 11 months. The last time, I saw her was when she born. She was born in Kancheepuram which is Poorvi akka's native.

After that, I didn't get to see her. So this is the second time I saw her since her birth.

She is a cute chubby baby girl. She started smiling seeing us while jumping in my mama's arms.

After that, we started chit chatting and then my appa and amma greeted her. Everyone started talking about wedding.

Now only, the house seems like a 'kalyana veedu' (wedding house).

Aththa.. Didn't Ram coming for wedding? Mughil anna asked while talking. Her face fell on hearing this.

No.. I'm sorry mughil.. He's not interested in returning to India first of all. I don't know what I'm going to do with him. She said while tears brimming in her eyes.

Aththa. It's ok Don't worry. He'll surely will understand you one day! He'll come for you. Please be calm. I consoled her.

Tell her kannamma. She's not listening me. Always worrying and stressing about him. But I don't know about that even he thinks about us for one second or not! We have to take care of sanju too. And we just want him to marry someone good like you and look after sanju living happily in India! But he's not at all listening us. Mama told worriedly.

Don't worry mama. Everything will be fine soon! Now smile. Saying this I consoled them by diverting the topics. So we started happily chit chatting.

The day went just like that. We shared everything about ilakya's family including Kavin, kathir and Pooja too. She became eager to see them all in person.

The next day, Kathir called me asking if I want something as they are going for shopping to purchase sarees for their relatives. I hung up after telling him that I don't want any.

My amma asked who called me. I told the thing and she started that we too buy some sarees for our relatives which she forgot totally in other works.

She enquired me who are all going. I told her that three of them are going.

She asked me to call him back and tell that we are also joining them. Usually, she'll never send us with boys other than mughil anna even with our relative boys too. This is not because she didn't trust us but because of our society! But here, Pooja also coming so she sending us and she didn't have any choice in this as buying sarees is must.

I, maya and her friend kavi got ready. I sent location to Kathir.

Within 1 and half hours, horn sound was heard. I was helping my amma in kitchen. I quickly glanced myself in mirror and ran to hall to meet them.

They three entered with a bright smile in there face.

I invited them inside. My aththai and amma gave them coffee with some snacks.

Hello all! I'm Savitri.. Kannamma's aunt! I don't know whether you heard about me or not. But I heard so much about you all. I was eager to meet you all in person. Thank god! We met before their marriage. So who is Kathir and who is Kavin? My aththai started talking with them in her nature.

Voah! Who's this beautiful girl? Are you lying or what? I thought you are kannamma's cousin sister or something. But you are telling that you are her aunt! I can't believe this! Kathir said dramatically widening his eyes.

My aththai blushed little though she knows he is kidding her.

Saying this my mama hitted his forehead in disbelief. We all chuckled at him.

My aththai asked excitedly.

Yes yes! Did Kannamma tell anything good about me? You recognized me in a second! You are really an example of beauty with brains! Kathir said.

Mama.. Cha.. Ithuku vera velaiye illa.. Kalangaathala vanthu usura edukuthu! Ellam neram!

(Mama.. Cha.. There is no other work for this.. It nagging us in morning itself! All is fate!)

Maya said annoyingly. Everyone saw her  curiously for what she really meant!

(I'm telling about this mosquito. Can't able to bear this mosquito's torture. It is irking me by screaming like goinnn goinn sound in my ear.)

She said. Pooja started laughing at her comment soon everyone joined her except Kathir.

Shut up Maya! Leave her dear. She's always like this. And Maya only told me about you more than Kannamma. She told everything from your first meeting😉.

Saying this my aththai winked at them. Kathir saw Maya surprised but soon masked his expression into blank.

Suddenly we heard crying sound in the room which gained our attention. That was Sanju. She was sleeping in one room. But now I think she's awake.

Aththa literally ran to that room. Mama got a call and went outside.

What happened kanns? Any probs? Pooja asked.

Nothing pooja. It's my cousin's one year old daughter. She's crying. So only. I said calmly.

Oh... Then is your cousin also here? Where are they? I mean your cousin and his wife!. She asked me. Three of them see me curiously.

No.. Actually, they're no more. They died 8 months ago in one accident. Now my aththa only taking care of her. I said with a sad face.

Everyone became silent for minutes until aththa came with sanju.

She's awake kanns! Can you ask ezhil anni to prepare milk for her? She's in kitchen only ryt? Aththa asked. I nodded and went to kitchen.

When I returned, I saw sanju playing with Pooja happily babbling something. Aththa and Kathir were talking something and laughing. Maya talking with her friend. And not forget to mention that kathir and maya glaring each other often.

Among them, Kavin got my attention. He is playing with sanju making funny faces and weird sounds like hiding his face behind his palms and showing his face excitedly. Sanju is literally jumping in pooja's lap while clapping her hands.

While playing, Kavin casually saw me and giving a oops reaction, he scratched his crook of neck while smiling sheepishly. Sanju turned her attention towards pooja. Now pooja doing the same which kavin did just now before.

Mummmaa.. Mum.. Amma.. Sanju started babbling but this time she said amma.

It was the first time she's saying this. Because my aththa told me many times that she's not telling amma rather than that she said appa.. Aththa.. Like this. But she never said the word amma.

Aththa didn't noticed this as she is talking with others. I came near Pooja and lifted sanju.

Enna d sonna.. Pattu.. Thirumba sollu da thangam... Please..

(What you said.. Dear.. Please say again once.. My precious..)

I cooed her. Aththa saw us curiously.

Am.. Amma... Saying this, she started clapping her hands happily.

Oh my god! Kannu. You heard ryt? She's calling you amma! Wow! My aththa said excitedly.

No aththa. She first said this word when she's with Pooja. Isn't it Pooja? I asked pooja with a smile and she nodded smilingly.

Great! Pooja.. Here take this! My little princess  said a priceless word when she's with you! You are special to me now! Saying this, my aththa stuffed halwa in her mouth which she ate happily.

Then after some time, we all started riding to shops for shopping sarees.

Kavin is in driver seat and Kathir in front passenger seat. I and Pooja in middle. Maya and her friend at back.

Kavin and Kathir was busy fighting by adjusting the back mirror.

Kannamma.. Sanju is such a sweet baby isn't it? Pooja asked. I nodded with a smile.

I felt somewhat connected with her. I think that may be because she too don't have parents like me. I want to ask you one thing.. May I? She asked me.

I heard that she too didn't have parents from my parents. She is indeed a good hearted girl. I nodded for her question.

Uhmm.. You said that her parents were died and our aththa is taking care of her.. Then what about her future? I mean after aunty and uncle, who'll take her responsibility? She asked.

I was surprised by her concern. I mean, we all thought about it as because we are sanju's family. But she is new and she doesn't need to be too concerned like this yet she is. No wonder everyone likes her in first sight.

Uhmm.. Yes, your thinking is right. She didn't have parents yet my aunt have one more son who's in abroad and his name is Rama krishnan. He is the second son and is unmarried. My aunt hoping that when he got married, he'll be take care of her along with his wife. So she's searching a girl who can accept him with sanju. So that's it.. I said. She listened thoughtfully. Then nodded.

Hmm.. Let's hope for the best. Then didn't he came here for marriage? She asked me.

No. He don't like India that too after his brother's death. He just doesn't want to return India. I said.

That's so sad.. She said with a sad expression.

At that time, we already reached the shop. We entered and searched sarees in saree section. It reminds me that day when Kavin accompanied me to select saree for Ilakya. I smiled at the thought.

Kavin and Pooja was busy selecting sarees. As I said before, I'm terrible in selecting sarees. So I felt bored already.

Maya and her friend was talking with each other. Like me, Kathir also stood there with a boring face while yawning. I chuckled and waved at him. He came near me with a smile.

Hi kanns! He said.

I'm bored! I said with a pout.

Even me too! He too pouted.

Come let's get some entertainment with that brinjal😉! He said and dragged me near Maya. I chuckled.

We both went near her.

Hey kathrika(brinjal).. Don't you introduce your frnd to me? He asked.

Hii! I'm Kavita! Nice to meet you! Kavi said excitedly while earing a glare from Maya.

Hi! I'm Kathir! Nice to meet you too! I wonder that this brinjal too had a beautiful frnd like you. And did you noticed one thing? Our both names are starting with Ka! It's sounds cute right? He started openly flirting with her.

Believe me, if looks could burn someone. Then Kathir would be a ash now.

Kavi was smiling shyly at his flirtings. Maya cleared her throat.

Kavi.. You said you want to buy kerchief ryt? Come with me.. Maya said while dragging kavi.

Hey kathrika(brinjal)!  Can't you see we are talking? Kathir asked.

Yes! I'm seeing it clearly! So what? She is my frnd! Maya said annoyed.

So what? She's talking with me now. Kathir said equally annoyed.

Kavi! I'm going.. Are you coming or not? Maya asked the poor kavi. Kavi blinked her eyes in confusion.

Yes.. I'm coming. Wait Maya! Kavi said.

Then I'm also coming! Don't worry kavi! I'll select kerchief for you😉! Kathir said with a wink.

Maya gritted her teeth in annoyance 😬😬 and stomping her feet, she went with kavi. Kathir cared less about that and followed them with a chuckle.

Suddenly I heard familiar laughter sound. I turned my head and spotted kavin and pooja was laughing like they heard a world's best joke.

Huh! Why are they laughing like this?🙄

I went near them. They both tried to control their laughter seeing me but failed.

Why are you both laughing like this? I missed anything? I asked them curiously.

Exactly kanns! Wait let me show what you missed! Before that, I'll tell what happened okay?  I and Kavin was fighting over two sarees. I selected this majenta one and he selected this skyblue one. So I put these two sarees on my shoulder to get a final decision and asked that brother to tell his opinion. Wait! I'll call him now. Helloo annaa!! Please come. Pooja called one of the salesman who's showing the sarees to others. He came.

Yes mam. What you want? He asked politely.

Can you tell what you said just before now to him? She asked suppressing her laugh pointing towards kavin. He looked at her weirdly.

I said that both sarees are looking good on you! He said with a confused expression.

Not that anna. Can you tell what exactly you told to him? She asked.

Both sarees are looking great on your wife sir. He said making my blood boil!!!!

What the hell!

Thanks anna. You can go now! She said and the man saw at us weirdly with confusion. I glared him like I'm going to kill him. He gulped seeing me and went with scared expression

These two again started laughing.

You heard it ryt kanns? He thought that we both are couples😂 That's why we are laughing like this!. She said and laughed again

I don't know why I'm feeling this much irritated now! The thought of Kavin with another girl gives me a unknown terrific fear. I tried to move from that place. But Kavin hold my wrist to stop me.

Wait Kannamma! Where are you going now?. He asked me.

Uhm.. Maya.. I'm going to see her. I said.

Wait! Tell us the final decision! Whose side you are in? He asked me curiously.

Both are looking great on your wife sir!😒 I mimicked that salesman tone annoyingly. He and pooja saw me confused for a moment. But he smiled brightly the next moment. He muttered something under his breath.

Oops! Kannamma! You are acting like his possessive girlfriend! Cut your crap and say something to cover up this!

I gave them a 'I'm just kidding' 😜 expression. Pooja smiled but saw me little suspicious.

Uhmm. Both are looking great. But I like this majenta one. I said honestly.

Yayyy! I won! You lose! Pooja chirped while sticking her tongue out at him. He twisted his lips at her.

Later that, we selected sarees! During the whole time, Kavin was smiling ear to ear like a mental which I don't know why. He brushed his hands often while searching sarees. It gave me a tingling sensation everytime.

Kavin Machan! Epdi than unga frnd vachu samalikringa! Semma kadupaguthu enaku!

(Machan! How could you tolerate your frnd actually! I'm annoyed to the core!)

Maya said with a annoyed face in which Kathir sheepishly grinned.

What he did now? Kavin asked him curiously.

First, he flirted with my frnd! That's also ok.. But when we went to buy some Kerchief. He started flirting with that saleswoman and you know what? She's already married and her husband is working here. Within minutes, he came and guess what! This dumbest frnd of yours didn't know that and continued his flirtings! Finally, he started glaring him. And finally you know what he said to escape from this? He said that I'm his fiancee, he just talked with her as like his sister! Arghhh!!! Didn't he have any other idea than this to escape? I would have fall from any cliff than being his fiancee! She said annoyed to the core.

Kavin glared him.

Dei what's this da? Can't you be quiet for sometime? Always getting into trouble! And this time, you dragged Maya with you! Buffalo! Kavin scolded him.

Kathir pouted.

Hehe! How can I know that she's married da?  She didn't put Vermillion in her forehead and she wore a collared blouse so that I can't see her thaali(sacred thread)! Then how I know? Kathir said innocently like he don't know anything.

Kavin said in which Kathir pouted again.

Kanns! Please at least you tell them that I'm innocent! Kathir asked me to support him. What more I do! He's my friend at least!

Leave him pa.. He's not a bad guy! He's just being funny.. I mean, he didn't do anything serious. Just let him be. I tried to supported him. Kavin just nodded but his look at Kathir said different.

You shut up kanns! For God's sake! You are my sister. But you are always taking his side!😒 Maya said annoyed.

Maya shut up! Don't make fight between friends! Everything happened is happened! I said in a warning tone.

But how can he said that I'm his fiance! Maya whined.

Kathir! Come tell then I'm your fiance! I said.

What!!! Kavin yelled in shock.

I mean, it's not like we are going to marry if he say like that! It's just a lie! Take it easy Maya!  I said. She twisted her lips at us.

For some reason, Kavin face turned totally pissed off! I don't know why.

Ok ok fine! If you bought ice cream for me. Then I'll forgive you! Maya said to Kathir which earned a chuckle from all of us.

Ada kathrika! Itha mothallaiye solirntha ivlo prachana vanthurukathula!

(Ada brinjal! If you said this before, then there would be no prob ryt!?)

Kathir said with a chuckle.

Then we all went to ice cream shop. While eating ice cream, Kavin looked at me constantly. He gestured me to wipe near my lips. I wiped but he shook his head while smiling dazzlingly.

He took his kerchief and forwarded it to me. At that time, Kathir wiped my face with his kerchief. Kavin saw us with a frown.

After enjoying ice cream, we went to our home.
