Chapter 3: Miracles

After applying on a generous amount of sunscreen, I had also put on a giant hat and gloves under Idris' perplexed look.

"I'm a redhead with light skin and it's summer. If I don't go out dressed like a scarecrow, I'll burn." I said in an exasperated tone. I was already tired of him looking at me my every action curiously. He was like a child observing his mother's every action, to learn about the world.

Idris thought for a moment before speaking up, "I can help you enjoy summer instead of hiding from it."

"Are you gonna suggest some hippy dippy method? 'cause I have tried a lot of those and I feel like they've definitely shortened my lifespan." I replied while adjusting the strap of my humongous hat. I looked like some cartoonish black widow. This look got me more than a few stares in public but I couldn't do much of anything about this. I was like a vampire, if even an inch of my skin was exposed to the sun, I would burn.

"I feel irritated by your lack of trust sister. After all, aren't I the one who not only restored your precious carpet but also got rid of a body for you?" Idris flashed me a charming smile. He was irritatingly handsome when he smiled like that.

"That was different than this, you cleaned up after making a mess. That doesn't translate to you helping me enjoy summer. If you really had the solution to that problem, wouldn't you already be rich and famous ?" He looked sadly in my direction like a dejected puppy. I sighed, "Fine, we can try your solution, but if anything happens you're taking care of me for the next few weeks."

"Stay here, I'll bring it to you." He said firmly.

"What are you bringing ? Where are you going ? Can I go with you?" I asked in rapid succession as he disappeared in the hallway.
Foolish punk, how could he not even answer me as he happily skipped down the hallway?

A few minutes later, he came back holding a drink. It was dark in color and smelled alcoholic, like a sweet wine.

"Your solution is to get me drunk? Being drunk only dulls the pain y'know?" My tone was sarcastic even if I didn't mean it to be so. It seemed I was tired of always getting my hopes up only to be disappointed by another sham product again.

For some reason, I couldn't stop myself from doubting him, even if he had restored my carpet to its former glory. I didn't know how he did it as he locked me out of the room but in the span of a few minutes my carpet was clean and the body had disappeared. I suspected there was something beyond my comprehension at work here.

I drank what he brought me. Despite my objections, I trusted Idris, he was my brother after all. I didn't mind getting burnt for him, I had gotten burnt for stupider reasons after all.

The drink was rich and thick, it was sweet but had a metalic aftertaste that I wasn't used to.

Just as I was finishing up, Idris exclaimed "Now time to remove that gaunt outfit and put on something marvelous! Being naked might be a better test but I don't think human society allows for it. Nor do I think you'd be comfortable with it."

I nodded and he continued "So let's go for as much exposed skin as possible."

"I don't really have clothes like that but if this works I wouldn't be opposed to buying some." I put the drink down and headed for my closet, Idris in tow.

I opened my closet and sifted through it. My clothes were really drab since I was a student. I had a few nice kimonos and cardigans but that was all. Looking at the state of my wardrobe in front of Idris made me depressed and ashamed. I almost wanted to hide it from him, as if I wanted to hide how miserably I had been living life without him.

I must have let my  emotions show on my face as Idris ruffled my hair. "Don't worry, if you don't have the right clothes, we can just make them."

I looked at him quizzically as he pulled some pieces from my closet and laid them on the bed.

"Give me a notepad." He said authoratively. I looked for one but all I had was my barbie themed diary from 10 years ago. I couldn't hand him that especially since I had lost its key a long time ago so I grabbed a bunch of blank papers as well as a pen and shoved them in his outstreched hands.

"I'm going to draw a few models for you. Make sure to pick wisely because once I make them, it can't be undone." He sat down to draw and I hovered behind him to peek at his work.

Very soon, I found myself bewildered. The pen I had given him was black yet his drawings were in various colors.

Did he already have colored pens in his pockets? How was he switching between them without me noticing? Why was he so fast at this ?

15 minutes later, just when my right leg was starting to fall asleep, he finished and handed me the drawings to choose from.

Despite how fast he was, the drawings vere beautiful and detailed. They ressembled drawings that you see from fashion designers in movies.

On the second page, one design in particular immediately caught my eyes. It was absolutely gorgeous. It was a light brown sleeveless crop top with an autumn leaves pattern. It was a truly magical design. Something I could only dream of wearing.

Idris spoke up "I didn't know you liked the fairycore aesthetic.  Especially those orange ribbons will really make your red hair pop."

I looked up at him "You can really make something this wonderful using that old top and ribbons ? "

He nodded then pushed my head back down to look at some more designs. Slowly whilst looking through his designs, a hopeful smile appeared. I didn't know where his confidence came from but everything he had shown me up until now was amazing. So maybe his earlier words were true as well.

It wasn't until the last page that I found something that would fit perfectly with my crop top. It was an emerald velvet maxi length skirt with a side split. It seemed he would be making it out of the only dress in my closet that I loved.

It was elegant and made me look like a witch, so I reserved it for special occasions. I was sad to see it go on one hand but on the other I was excited to see these new clothes.

I handed it back to him. "How long is it gonna take you to make this?"

"About 30 seconds since I'm an exceptionnal being. I know you're trying to wiggle out of confronting the sun but I will not let you run away like a coward. I'm even making you such pretty armor so don't even think about worming your way out of this."

I raised my hands in surrender as Idris put away the clothes he didn't need. He stood in front of the bed and snapped his fingers.

"Don't you dare faint." He said as if instructing a pet.

Why would I faint? Just as I thought that the clothes started floating. Colored streams of light were surrounding them, shaping them into something new. It was a magnificent spectacle.

I rubbed my eyes once, twice and then three times. Despite this, the sight in front of me remained the same.

I felt a little nauseous but I was holding on as best as I could until the red light passed by me. Despite it being light, it had a cold stinging feel.

That's when I felt it, that familiar sensation from my childhood. I used to faint a lot as I was afraid of my own blood so I knew the signs indicating a fainting spell.

That sensation of losing my footing, the inability to think, a rising bile in the back of my throat and a spinning head.

As I was falling into the darkness, I heard Idris' voice ring out in the distance "You don't listen very well sister. I specifically requested that you don't faint."

After that, I could feel myself no more. It was like I had erased my own existence.
