CHAPTER EIGHTEEN:
FEELINGS PART TWO
★ ★ ★
Time went by very slowly the moment they landed back on her bedroom floor in Merlen.
Louis was sure there was going to be something said, if not he was convinced that whilst they were gone aliens came and abducted the entire place. It must have been hours past the time they were supposed to be back, over five to be exact. His own head was pounding, and he was starting to feel ill. He needed to stand up, but he was sure if he did he would end up getting sick all over the place. His attention went to the overly drunk, loud individuals who were laughing at what the other was saying.
"Did you hear what he said?" Louis repeated, trying to help Aurora off the ground. The dress of hers was far too modern for the party and he was sure Hestia had put the dress she expected her to wear in here somewhere. He tried to stay focused himself, but he also felt rather out of it. "We all really should uh......sober up for the party."
"What party?" She asked.
"What?" Louis retorts, "The party for you, for your crowning."
"No one ever told me about that party."
"How drunk are you?" Louis asked, eyes flickering between Aurora and Luke. "How drunk are you two?"
"Like on a scale from here to here," Luke made a gesture with his hands. "We're like here."
"Damien is probably going to have smoke coming out of his head when he sees you two." Louis stressed, shaking his head. "
"You're drunk too!" Luke argued, hands waving in the air.
"Not your level of drunk," Louis seethed, rolling his eyes at the two of them. Guilt had eaten at his mind currently over the fact Runskin had been so close to getting to Aurora. It would have just seconds before he got to her and would have taken her away and that was his fault. He took a promise of the day of her arrival to protect the girl, he'd promise to, and she was almost taken again tonight. "Aurora, are you alright?"
She was holding her head, "He was in my head just minutes ago." And now, she had a bloody headache.
"This bloody place really is like a safe haven, isn't it?" Luke asked, referring to the fact this small island was powerful enough to keep Aurora hidden. "It's probably killing Runskin that he can't find you now again."
"Hopeful it does kill him." She replied in a dreadful tone. She made a cutthroat figure with her hands and Luke laughed.
"What are you looking all mopey for?" Aurora snorted out, keeping her eyes on Louis.
"I'm not looking mopey."
"You're the mopiest looking person I know. You have a resting scowl on your handsome little features." Aurora poked his nose.
Louis rolled his eyes at her, "You need to get dressed and I'm guessing this is yours."
"What's wrong with the outfit I'm wearing?" She gave a twirl.
"I could tell you a dozen things wrong with it, starting with the fact it's not your colour." Louis helped her take off her leather jacket.
"I didn't know you knew how to joke." Aurora replied.
"Presume this is meant for you're wearing." Louis mentioned, hand pulling out a green dress from the wardrobe. The dress was the normal length and suitable one for this type of party, a small trail underneath the ends of the dark emerald dress. There was a white sparkle in the centre of the dress that spread out along the ends, it reminded her of the dress she wore for the Yule Ball: which made sense considering she did spend a good hour one day telling Hestia about the night of the Yule Ball. There were sleeves on it, except they were light green ones that still showed her arms a little.
"Fine, I'll wear it. Only because Hestia would be mad if I didn't."
She took the dress out of his hands and went into the bathroom, and closed the door in. She brought her hands to her head and closed her eyes for a long moment. Her head was really paining her, and she couldn't think of the spell to relieve her mind of the pain. It had been one she read a while ago, but she couldn't remember. She took off the red dress she was wearing and got into the green ones, it fit her perfectly except was hard to close at the back herself.
She felt like she was going to get sick, she couldn't tell if that was Runskin's doing or the fact she had a little too much to drink.
"Need help, buttons." Aurora grinned. "Can't reach."
"I can't help you." Luke replied from the bed, buttoning up his own suit. "We'll probably end up kissing again."
From the bathroom, Aurora burst out laughing.
Louis stood up from his spot and walked into the bathroom with her. It was awkward between them, and she was reminded of why exactly the boy hated her.
"Your head still sore?"
"Yeah," She nods.
"If you had gotten all the way up those stairs, he would have taken you again, in just a matter of seconds, all of this would have been for nothing." Louis says underneath his breath, only that she could hear. For a moment, he had to think about what would happen if he did get to her.
She nods, "I'll have a gin when I go downstairs, that'll help."
"I'm sorry," He replied, buttoning up the ends. "I shouldn't have snapped at you like that, also shouldn't have left you."
"Doesn't matter." She waved him off. "I'm sorry for not being here sooner. If I knew about this place I would have."
Louis finished and simply stepped back, "All ready. Try not to trip."
"Here I was thinking I was special." Luke suddenly says, sounding almost offended as he walked into the bathroom.
Aurora gave Luke a small "really?" look. She wondered if Luke had not been paying attention to the number of guys who Louis had taken small but noticeable looks at in the club.
"Right, please act normal when we get down here." Louis requested as they all fixed themselves up. Luke was bent over like he was about to throw up. "When we see Damien, we tell him that we had to take a break from portal opening for a few hours and that's why we're late. Got it?"
In unison, Aurora and Luke give nods.
"Good. Let's go."
The three of them walked out of bedroom and were greeted with loud music from downstairs. Aurora and Luke exchanged a look and links arms with one another as they walked. Louis was repeating what they were going to say.
"All you've got to do is do a few laps around the room, listen to some stories and then thank everyone for coming. Try to not talk slurred, last thing we need is people knowing you two are drunk."
"I'm not drunk." Aurora grumbled.
"Neither am I." Luke adds.
"Well, neither of you are exactly sober either, are you?"
"Hold on." Aurora paused when they walked by one of the unoccupied bedrooms in the castle. She felt goose bumps, but not the mundane kind, more like the magic kind that told her something was wrong. Her fingertips came to the door handle, and she felt a warm sensation float up her arms. She furrowed her brows as she opened the door and entered the room.
The room was messy and full of someone's stuff. Aurora looked around.
"Is someone living here?" Luke questioned, and the scent he caught was familiar.
Aurora's eyes caught the old pair of grey converses on the floor.
"Probably from a few months ago before you were here. Maybe some homeless civilian tried to sneak in for a night or two, forgot their stuff." Louis said from behind them, "Now can we please go."
Aurora shook her head and the three of them left the room and headed towards the main room of the castle. She walked down the overly long stairs of the castle and greeted the people entering the ballroom. Instantly she was noticed by the people and a range of greetings and overly loud exhales of happiness were given her way. The ceiling was bewitched so that there was hundreds of peonies planted along it, there was decorations and rows of food and drinks, people were dressed better than she had ever seen them, and were dancing. There was a band in the corner, playing music.
Aurora took a glass of wine from one of the servers walking around and went to drink it, but Louis was quick to grab it.
"No." He replied. "Think you've had enough."
"Think you haven't." She mumbled.
There were so many people here and all around the castle that she couldn't locate anyone which is why Louis had decided to desert them and go to try and find Damien.
"Do you smell that?" Luke asked, nose scrunching.
"Smell what?"
"Be right back." Luke mentioned, his eyes on something in the distance. Without saying another word, he disappeared into the crowd.
"Alright then...."
A figure came crashing towards her and grabbed her shoulders into a hug. She knew it was Beckham, but she got a fright at the neediness of the hug. The boy almost pushed her to the ground. She noticed his black suit was a little oversized on him when he wrapped his arms around her torso.
"What the hell took you so long?" There was a panicked look in his eyes, and she waved him off without an explanation. Nonetheless, he just seemed happy to see her standing there. So happy in fact that he leaned down and kissed her forehead. Her nose scrunched but she grinned at him. "We thought something happened."
(Beckham had been so convinced something had happened to her that he was just about to reveal her existence to her mum, who stood directly across the room)
She extends a hand and grins, "My favourite ex-lover, come dance with me."
He knew instantly, "Oh god, you don't know yet, do you?"
"Know what?" She hiccupped with a laugh, not noticing the concern on his face.
Before she had a chance to reply, out of nowhere Damien appeared and like Louis said, she was sure she was smoke coming out of his ears.
"We need to talk now."
"Can't sorry, in the middle of a conversation." Aurora turned back to Beckham. "What don't I know?"
Beckham for some reason exchanged a look with Damien, "I'll come find you after." Was all he said before walking away.
Aurora went to walk away but Damien had pulled her to the side and gave her a look that suggested she doesn't have an attitude right now. Rolling her eyes, she followed him out of the Ballroom and with the wave of her hand, she closed the door in, slamming it shut.
The hallway was silent.
"I'm not in the mood for a lecture. I've got a massive headac—"
Probably was a bad way to start the conversation judging the look on his face.
"Oh, you're not in the mood?" Here it comes. "You're not in the mood? I've spent the last five hours thinking you were hurt or worse! I've spent the last five hours having to lie to all the people here and tell them you'd be here soon when I had no idea if you were even alive. Where the hell have you been?"
"We got a little held up."
He clenched his jaw, shaking his head. "Judging by the stench of alcohol off you and the fact you wobbled in here, I say you got a little more than just held up."
Aurora folded her arms. "You're the one who said I have a limp that's why I wobbled."
Damien shook his head, "Don't be such a smart arse."
Aurora paused, narrowing her eyes. "It took us longer than expected to find Charlie."
"You left yesterday morning, over twenty-four hours ago and you couldn't have gotten than damn owl of yours to send us a letter?!" He shouted, "A letter to say that. It doesn't even matter anyway because you should have returned here the minute you knew you couldn't find Charlie. I remined you about a dozen times that Runskin can track you after twenty-four hours and you're lucky he didn't!"
Damien watched as her eyes dropped to the floor for a second.
"Aurora."
"What?"
"Did Runskin track you?"
"...No..."
"Oh my god," He seethed, knowing instantly that she was lying. Luke had mentioned to him she was a good liar and easy to believe but he saw right past it. "Were you even going to tell me this? He got into your head again, is that why you're late? Did you see him, did you fight him?! Are you hurt?"
"It's not that big of a deal. Runskin just sort of.... he got into my head again." She tapped her temple and watched his reaction. "I'm fine now. Louis came just in time and—"
"Louis wasn't with you?!"
"No....no he was with me..." Ah fuck.
"Where was Louis?!"
"You need to be quiet. Everyone in there can probably hear you." Aurora rolled her eyes and gestured into the ballroom.
"I don't give a damn who hears me," Damien was yelling. "Do you realise the amount of danger you put yourself in tonight? I'm sure that you do but just don't really care, right? I'm also sure than you meeting Charlie tonight didn't require for you and your friend to drink half the bar."
Aurora shook her head, "You're not my father so stop acting like it." She yelled.
"Thank god because if you were my kid, I'd end up locking you in your room forever because it seems like you have some sort of death wish!" He shouted back at her.
"I don't have a death wish!" She yelled back at him.
"No, you're just incredible lenient when it comes to putting yourself in danger which is actually worse. You had me worried out of my mind here and you come back, and you don't even find me to let me know you're alive." Damien shouted back.
"In case you're forgetting I can do whatever I want to do!" She shouted, "There literally no one in the world who can dictate to me what I can and can't do. I don't have parents to tell me what I can and can't do so—"
Sometimes Damien forgot she was only seventeen years old, and she was in fact still a child.
He suddenly started laughing.
She stopped talking, "What's so funny?"
"Oh, you're in for some shock in a few minutes."
"What do you mean?"
Damien composted himself and let out a sigh, "The night you and Luke argued in the dining room, you shook half the castle with your powers you were so mad. You didn't even realise it. Beckham decided enough was enough, so he sent your parents a letter."
Her mind froze. "He did what?"
"He wrote them a letter from you asking them to come to the island and team up against Runskin." Damien says and she refused to believe any of this was real. "You think I was trying to act like your parent, fine, maybe I was trying to look out for you because no other adult was. I don't need to anymore because your parents are here now. My job is done."
She felt hurt by the last part but didn't let it show. He said it so quickly that it all felt like it was hitting her in the face.
Her shoulders deflated and she frowned for a moment before going after him. "What do you mean you're done?"
"I mean I'm finished training you. I can't spend hours worrying about a kid that's not even mine. As you've stated plenty of times, you're an adult so you can handle yourself. As you said, I'm not your father, I'm your mentor. I've done all the mentoring I can."
"What? So, you're gonna stop training me because I showed up late to the party—"
"No, I'm not training you because I don't wanna start caring for a kid who I know has no issue putting herself in danger. I already watched one kid die, I don't want to see another."
Damien waited for one second, all he wanted her to do was admit her mistake and say she was wrong, but she did not.
He had been gone out of sight so fast that she didn't have a chance to catch up with what he had previously said. She wasn't even sure if what he was saying was the truth or it was some sort of joke. She tried to ignore his words but the feeling that something was different kept reminding her that perhaps, just perhaps, Damien wasn't lying, and Beckham really had done that. She didn't want to think about it but here she stood outside the ballroom, like a frightened child at the idea of who might be in there.
The sober Aurora would have run upstairs but the slightly wasted one had been mad, "Screw that, this is my party."
She opened back up the door and déjà vu hit her.
Unlike the first time she entered the room, this time she took an analysed look around and realised he had not been lying. Beckham did really send a letter across the sea to them. In the ballroom had been many people who she once considered a big part of her life. Over by the drinks table, she spotted two red haired twins accompanied by their younger brother and sister (Ginny looked older), then all the way at the opposite side of the room she saw James talking with two men, one of them was Remus (and it took everything for her to not go over to Remus) and the other was a man with his back turned to her in a green suit. Phoebe, her lips went into a frown, she also looked older, was dancing with Ted.
Slowly after that she started to notice all the others and one by one, her heart broke.
There was only two people, the main two people she did not want to see, that she couldn't spot. Unbeknown to her, they were the first two people to spot her when she first arrived.
She caught someone else's eyes. Beckham was looking at her from across the room, and she stormed over towards him.
"Runskin and Voldemort attacked Hogwarts. Almost killed them all. Your mum could have died and the rest of them. Your mum opened a portal and came here." Beckham spoke slowly as if talking to a two-year old child. He sounded rather calm about the entire situation and was practically laying back on the wall. Rather than apologising he seemed to be explaining the situation. "I think we got pretty lucky, am I right?"
"I can't believe you did this." She whispered to him. His eyes widened and he looked confused at her response. "How could you send them a letter?"
"Not the reaction I was expecting." He appeared surprised.
"Are you joking? Did you think I would thank you for bringing them here?" She retorts.
"Maybe not them, but I thought you'd be happy at the fact I brought him here." He sounded so smug.
Why would she be happy that he brought Sirius here?
"Oh well thank you so very much then." She told him sarcastically.
She whirled around and walked away from him despite his protests. She faked a smile to the people she passed but she had not really cared about keeping up the appearance that she was in a good mood. She walked over towards the drinks table and poured herself a drink.
Aurora felt a set of eyes on her but she was not in the mood to entertain it right now.
She poured herself a drink and downed it, and then another two until she felt someone behind her.
"Don't you think you've had enough of that for one night," someone said from behind her. It sounded like a statement rather than a question. A sigh left Aurora's lips and she turned around and was faced with her mum.
And her dad. Sirius stood there.
Once again, her chest burned when she saw her standing there. Red dress and red lip on, and alive. Still, she was not used to seeing her mum being alive. Magnolia being alive. It was a messy situation and one she spent most nights thinking about. The picture was still in her drawer upstairs and she reminded herself that she needed to move it now. Aurora's eyes went to the bandage on her abdomen, it stuck out through her dress and wasn't noticeable unless you were looking.
Aurora's eyes dropped down to their hands, intertwined with one another.
Her eyes flickered to Sirius: he was looking incredibly disinterested in this and seemed like Magnolia had forced him to come over.
"Don't know what you're talking about," She replied swiftly moving to her right, but her mother was too quick and put her hand up and declare the conversation was not over.
"You reek of drink." Magnolia says, and she didn't sound disappointed more so concerned.
"And that's a bad thing because.....?" Aurora rose a brow.
"You look like your about to pass out," The brunette told her. "You should sit down."
Aurora hated the way she was looking at her with the intense brown eyes, like she was trying to read her mind. "I didn't invite you here."
"Kind of figured by your reaction right now." Magnolia replied.
However despite the fact Aurora didn't want her here, her mind was telling her not to let her go:
I just want you all safe, especially you. Also, doesn't mean I want you to leave but at the same time I can't stand to see you standing here in front of me.
"Did something happen tonight?" Magnolia finally questioned. The last few hours she had pretended to not notice how her group of people, in particular the man who appeared to be her guardian had been panicking over her lateness. When she asked Beckham, the boy she thought seemed familiar to her, he had told her not to worry and that Aurora would be back soon. "You're pretty late to your party...."
"Even if something did happen, I wouldn't tell you, it'd be none of your business." She mumbled pouring herself another drink and avoiding the vivid eyes of the two of them. They watched her pour the drink, turn back around, and look at Magnolia. She pointed a finger down at the older woman's torso. "Did something happen to you?"
"It's just a scratch."
"Can't heal it?" She took a sip of her drink again.
"No, she can't." Sirius answered, she heard his voice and she paused. She heard the concerned tone in his tone, and she knew he was worried: it was the same type of way he used to act about her.
It took Aurora a second to realise that it wasn't that her mum didn't want to heal it, she couldn't heal it. For a second, concern flooded over her mind, but she forced it away.
"Suppose if its just a scratch, it'll be fine." Aurora replied coldly.
Thankfully her favourite person in the world came running over. The jacket of his suit was off and now he was only wearing a flowy white top and the black pants. Hestia was with him and seemed to be pulling him by the hand over towards Aurora.
Luke's eyes were red, like he had been crying. Without even saying anything he picked her up into a hug and spun her around. It gained a few peoples attention and many eyes turned towards them. She gladly accepted the hug and held onto him for a moment. When she pulled away, she cupped his face with a suspicious look in her eyes.
"Why are you so happy or sad?" She laughed out and found herself smiling because of how happy he looked.
When Hestia noticed Magnolia and Sirius were still standing there, she switched into her language presuming they did not speak French. "Une fin heureuse!"
"What do you mean?" Aurora asked the girl, and discreetly gesturing to the fact her parents were standing behind her.
"How are you not crying?" Luke retorts, feeling like everything was returning to normal.
"Why would I be crying?"
His smile dropped. Luke's mouth opened to speak but he paused when he realised, she most definitely did not know he heard practically all her argument with Damien, as did half of the party, and he knew that the second Damien would have told her about Harry she would have come straight through the doors. She also would have not been over by the drinks table arguing with her parents. Luke looked away from the girl and across the room where Harry was with James.
Luke leaned into her ears and whispered, "It's Harry, he's alive. Runskin lied. He tricked you."
Aurora pulled away from him immediately, refusal to listen to that. "That's not funny. You're drunk."
She went to walk away but he caught her hand, "Aurora, you would know if I was lying. He's alive. He's been alive this entire time."
"It's the truth, love. He came yesterday with the group." Hestia told her in a lone tone so that only the three of them could hear. She stood back away from them, shaking her head. Her chest started to tighten. "He isn't dead. For some reason Runskin didn't kill him."
"Stop talking—"
"Aurora, he's alive."
"No, he isn't. Why would you say something like this?"
"I wouldn't joke about this and you know that."
Aurora shoved back away from him, and shook her head. She didn't want to hear what the point behind his words were. He was dead and she knew that.
"Harry is dead."
"Who on earth told you that?" She almost forgot Magnolia was standing behind her, but she had not been concerned about it.
Aurora rolled her eyes, "Runskin."
"Really? You believe any words that comes out of his mouth?" Sirius asked, brow raising in her direction and for the first time they met eyes. Grey and grey.
"How do you know Harry?" Magnolia asked, and the way she spoke made Aurora stop breathing for a moment. She was talking like he was actually alive.
"She doesn't," She barely heard Luke answer for her. "We've just heard of him."
The possibility of Harry being alive went straight to her heart and had her eyes watering instantly. She wasn't focused on how noticeable she was making it seem that she knew him but nothing else in this entire universe mattered right now, except for him. Her and Luke kept their eyes on one another, and she knew he was telling the truth. That was also what Beckham had been talking about. Everything felt like it was changing now, him being alive had changed practically everything.
It also meant Draco had truly been the one to send the letter and meant he was in danger.
Harry was alive.
He had not been killed.
He had not been killed because of her.
It started raining outside and the harsh impact of the rain suddenly pounding against the windowpanes caused the crowd to jump. No one took much notice of it however.
"He's alive." She whirled around, eyes scanning the room. "He's here...where...where is he? I need to..."
Luke and Hestia grabbed her hand and got her away from Magnolia and Sirius who were exchanging suspicious looks.
Oh no, oh no. She knew the raining was being caused by her, and the flashes of lightning in the distance made her believe it was her too. Her entire body felt like it was being lit on fire, but also like she was being submerged into a bath full of freezing water. It was like reality was greeting her again but as a joke, like saying she was fool for believing Runskin. She pinched her arm and was reminded that she was not sleeping. She needed to see him to truly believe it.
"I'm an idiot." She whispered. "I fell for it."
She couldn't catch her breath, she tried but it kept running away on her like punishing her for believing him.
"Doesn't matter what you think you are, he's alive and here." Luke whispered. "He's actually standing directly across the room."
Time was slowing down and she wasstill trying to convince herself that this wasn't a dream. If it was a dream, she hoped she would never wake up because returning to a reality where Harry didnot existence was the worst kind. Knowing he was within a walking distance seemed to be setting her off, she tried to stop crying as people had been looking.
Hestia brought her sleeve up and wiped the tears off Aurora's face, a frown on the girl's lips.
"I need to see him."
"Turn around and go over then!"
She was about to but her legs weren't moving. "I can't...because I'll end up passing out or something!" Aurora brought her hand up her throat to try and relax her breathing but it wasn't working.
Next thing, panic mode had set into her head, she had pushed through past them all and got as far away from them all. She felt like she was being suffocated by all this information and it was too hard for her to even cope with it all. All of it felt like too much information to handle tonight, with Runskin successfully going into her head, seeing all of them, and finding out Harry (her heart burned) was alive.
She found the only thing that helped her breathe was when she got outside and into the gardens, the fresh air and coldness on her face made her calm down. She stood in the middle of the gardens, trying to wipe the tears from eyes and keep herself calm. She must have been there for a good ten minutes trying to calm herself done, she could hear the music playing inside.
He was alive. Harry was alive, and in this place meaning he was safe. If she was here, she would make sure he was safe too.
"Stop crying," She mumbled to herself, shaking the tears off her staining cheeks. "Be calm and collected...."
"Do you always talk to yourself?" Someone asked from behind her.
Her heart stopped for a moment and she didn't turn around immediately. Instead, she quickly wiped her tears underneath her eyes and took a deep breath. The clarification of his voice made her want to burst out into tears. It made her want to turn around and tell him everything that happened, all the details.
She tried to push past every memory that clouded her.
Aurora turned around and was greeted with Harry James Potter.
For the first time in over a year, she looked at him.
And there he was, very much so alive and looking well. He stood a few feet away from her and was balancing on the heels of his feet – in the awkward way that he used to do when they were in Hogwarts, the same way he did the first time they kissed. He was literally so close that she could see every detail on his face, but he was still too far away for her liking. He was much taller now, and overshadowed most of the people inside, including his father. His raven hair was longer now and much messier, slightly same way it had been the last time she saw him. He had a small bit of colour in his face and the suit was the same colour as his eyes. His eyes, her heart melted, his eyes were looking so intently into hers that she wanted to just go over there and kiss him a dozen times.
He seemed to be examining her too.
His suit was in the same colour as the dress she was wearing, and something told her Hestia planned that.
Her throat felt dry, and she struggled to speak for a long moment. "Not all the time."
Harry thought her voice was soft, very gently spoken and he was surprised to hear a very thick English accent. He was surprised in general when he heard her voice, he found that he almost froze. He looked at the girl ahead of him, she couldn't have been older than him, but she stood with an almost confidence that he allured him to her.
"You must be Aurora." He speaks and she was reminded he did not know her. "I'm Harry."
She wanted to cry. Burst into years to be exact but she forced herself not to. All she wanted to do was hug him. She needed that.
He walked over towards her and had his hand out. He stood in front of her now and he looked down into her eyes. She was so busy looking at him that she forgot to take his hand and shake it. She took his hand, fitting into hers, and shook it lightly. Harry sort of paused when she did it. Her heart was racing, racing so fast that she swore she was going to pass out.
She didn't want to let go of his hand.
She swallowed. "Nice to meet you, Harry."
Harry sort of tilted his head when she said his name and he didn't drop her hand for a minute.
"You're the girl who owns this island," Harry says, looking around the garden. "I'm surprised you're so young...I was expecting someone more...."
She looked up at him curiously, "Someone more what?"
"Older I guess." Harry quipped back instantly. He could have told the truth which was that he was expecting a grey-haired old woman to come barging in. Harry had been stunned by this girl standing in front of him and found himself not being able to take his eyes off her. If he was correct, she was also looking at him. "You seem to be missing your party."
"I'm not really in the mood for a party tonight." She admitted truthfully, sitting down on the ledge.
Harry stood there for a moment, hands slipping into his pockets. Her eyes dropped down to the converses he was wearing. "Bad night?"
"Both good and bad." She told him and Harry wanted to melt at the sound of this girl's voice. Something about it felt familiar...
She felt familiar.
He sat down on the ledge beside her, the two of them turned sideways and looked at one another. She had these immense clouded grey eyes, and he would be lying if he said he didn't see the redness in them. She had been crying and he found himself concerned with the reasons behind that. Long eyelashes and gentle cupid bow lips. Shoulder cut hair that was placed on her chest, his eyes dropped to down for a moment and he saw a light scar on her. He looked back up and met her eyes.
She also had familiar grey eyes.
"I was ... under the impression Voldemort had killed you and he won the war." She told him in a low tone. She saw him still slightly at her words. "I heard it from some people....I'm surprised to see you alive."
"You've heard of me?" Harry interjects, not answering the previous question. She gave him a slight look at that response, it took him a moment to realise that of course she knew who he was. Everyone in the Wizarding World knew of him, even if they were on an isolated place like this. "Stupid question. So, how come you've heard of me, but I've never heard of you?"
A small smile played on her lips, "I don't have a very rememberable face." Sarcasm seemed better than answering that one.
"That's a lie." Harry replied in a low voice instantly, eyes on her. "You have a very rememberable face."
Ironic.
Slowly, her lips turned upwards into a smile.
"The night is still pretty young." Harry says. "I bet I can cheer you up."
Aurora smiled at him, and her eyes softened. You being here is cheering me up more than anything.
He stood up from his spot and stepped back, "Would you like to dance?"
"You're not able to dance." She said without thinking. Harry rose a brow, head tilting to the left. "I have a really good sense of the type of people who can dance, and you don't make the cut."
"Oh really?"
"Yeah, sorry about that." she teases, and watched him smile at her.
Merlin I want to kiss you right now, she thought.
"Well then you're just going to have to take my hand and let me show you then." Harry said happily, he extended his hand. She didn't have to force herself to smile, which she had done a lot lately. She stands, slips her hand into his and steps forward with him. Oddly enough, unlike the first time she danced with him, he wasn't afraid to grip her waist tightly. She took a small breath in when his fingers touch her bare back.
He did improve on his dancing but not a lot. When they stepped back together his foot hit hers. An apology left his mouth. She glances up at him and sees he had already been looking at her. She sent him a small smile, which he replicated widely.
"Maybe I can't dance." He admitted sheepishly.
She resisted the urge to grin at him, "I noticed."
She didn't want him to let go, and he didn't, instead he gave her a small spin, gentle and light and she landed back in his arms.
Please don't leave me again, she thought.
"Am I proving worthy of another dance? Maybe this time inside?" He asked, she almost forgot there was other people that existed right now.
He didn't receive an answer, and she was looking at him like she wanted to say something. He looked at their intertwined hands and when the song from inside finished, he squeezes her hand tightly before letting her go.
Despite the fact Harry didn't know the girl, when his hand was intertwined with hers, it felt as though something in his mind clicked. Like, something was telling him to not let this girl go, it was stupid and odd, he knew that, but he couldn't help it. Something felt right for the first time in a long time. His head started to pain him, and he felt a ringing sensation along his neck.
Aurora noticed the fact he winced in pain, "What's wrong?"
"Nothing," he said a little too quickly. "I just have bad headaches."
You're lying, Aurora thought, keeping her eyes on the boy, why are you lying?
Nonetheless, Harry plastered on a smile, but she saw right past it. Part of her was almost about to give out about the fact he lied right to her face but then she realised he had no idea who she was or how much he meant to her.
"Um, I have to go, I'm sorry." See the thing about Harry was that controlling her emotions around him was always hard. With everyone else, she tried to hide them, but he always saw right through them. When her eyes started filling with tears, she knew she needed to go. She wanted to get as far away as possible from him. At the same time, all she wanted to do was find a way to make him remember. The entire night was too much to handle, and she just wanted to sleep it off. She couldn't even tell if any of this was real. "I'm so sorry..." She mumbled.
She pushed past him, but he was quick enough to stop her. He took her by surprise when his hand reached out and grabbed hers. He was so close to her, like he had once been, and his hand was gripping hers so gently.
"What are you sorry about?" Harry whispered, holding her in place.
"So much." She mumbled, keeping her eyes on their hands. His eyes remained on hers. "Leaving you in the hallway."
"Leaving me in the hallway?" Harry remarks, brows furrowing. He could tell this girl wasn't exactly sober, but her words made his body freeze: like part of him knew what she was talking about, but he also didn't. He couldn't explain it. He replayed what the girl said. He was replaying everything about the girl, especially the way he found that she had held his hand like it was a feather. "Have we met before?"
"Aurora, what the bloody hell? Get in here!" Luke's voice shouted down at her from the top of the steps. Her and Harry broke apart. He rushed down the steps and took her hand. "I think it's time we go to bed."
Harry gave Luke a look when he practically tore the girl away from him.
Luke was practically pulling her through the crowd and past all the people. Next thing she knew she was going upstairs and was at the end of the hallway, outside her bedroom.
"Why did you tear me away from him?!" Aurora yelled.
"Because you'll end up saying something you'll regret in the morning." Luke retorted, head shaking. She was a nervous wreck right now and even Magnolia (who spoke to him at in concern about the girl) could notice it. "You should just go to bed and sleep on all of this."
"What if I wake up and this was all just a dream?"
"I promise it's not." Luke smiled gently at her.
"What if something happens when I go asleep—"
"I'll make sure Harry is fine, alright? You need to rest."
After another few minutes of convincing, he eventually got the girl to go to bed and was glad he got to do so. The night had been crazy on him so he couldn't imagine what it must have been like for her. Not only had she found out the love of her life was alive, but her entire family had been here. He knew the number of mixed emotions she must have been experiencing and the number of memories that were probably coming back.
In short, Aurora was going to be in for a rough couple of days.
"Three minutes in and he's already all over her again." Luke said, standing on the balcony beside Beckham. The two of them had been discussing what would happen now. "I seen the way he was looking at her, there's no way he doesn't know."
"What way was he looking at her?"
Luke looked out at the sea, "The same way he's always looked at her, like she's the only thing that matters to him."
"What are we going to do?" Beckham questioned.
"If anyone is going to convince her to tell her parents, it's going to be Harry. Him being alive changes everything. I already know that once she wakes tomorrow, she'll realise that in order to keep Harry here, she'll have to keep them all here." Luke told him, eyes flickering down at the people leaving the castle. "I think he be might the one who'll remember her. Something is telling me that it's him.....just the way he was looking at her tonight, it was like his eyes knew but his head didn't."
"Maybe deep-down part of him remembers her."
"Maybe."
"So, we tell Harry?"
"God no, Aurora would kill us, she needs to want to tell him. And we need to tear apart every book in that library and look for the resolution. This island has been here for centuries, and Aurora couldn't have been the first person who Runskin erased, he's probably done it a dozen times." Luke tells him, he believed the answer to getting both his and hers existence remembered was here somewhere. "Aurora claims she checked the library for a spell to undo Runskin's but I don't believe her. There's three stories in the place, there has to be something somewhere."
Beckham nods. "There's always loopholes in magic, Aurora's the living example of that. There must a loophole in Runskin's spell."
"And we need to do everything in our power to find that loophole."
Beckham glanced down to the balcony below them where he knew Sirius and Magnolia had been staying. "What'll we do about Sirius and Magnolia?"
"Don't think we can get involved in that," Luke mentioned, quickly shaking his head. Aurora knew that between the three of them: her parents and Harry, she would want Harry to remember the most. That's what he was believing anyway. "Besides her mum intimates me a little..."
"Me too." Beckham agreed. "So I'll see you tomorrow morning in the library?"
Luke sighed. "We've got a lot of books to start reading."
