9. Power hungry

Nitta sat on a chair outside the hospital room flipping through a magazine. She yawned as she looked at the time. It was 2:00 pm and Gojo Satoru had promised to return before evening. Why did she have to do uninteresting jobs like keeping watch outside the hospital room of some highschool student. Nitta was a sorcerer too. Sure, she wasn't as strong as Kugisaki or Maki. Her cursed technique or fighting skills weren't anything extraordinary. Yet, she was a manager at Jujutsu society and she deserved more serious tasks than something like this.

She looked up when the girl named Miyo stepped out of the hospital room in a cute little blue summer dress. "Why have you changed out of your hospital clothes? I'm not supposed to let you go anywhere until Gojo Satoru returns." Nitta informed her. Why couldn't people just listen to instructions for once.

"I'm not trying to go anywhere. Those clothes were uncomfortable." Miyo said as she held the doorframe for support. "I smell something weird. It keeps getting stronger, its bothering me." She said anxiously.

Nitta inhaled and waited. There was a faint smell of something burning. She couldn't figure out what that was, but it was getting more and more prominent. "You're right, what is that smell?" Nitta's nose scrunched up. It was such a disgusting smell, she had never sensed anything so horrible before.

"It's like a dead rat is.." Miyo started and Nitta's eyes widened.

"It's the smell of burning flesh." Nitta said in horror. The two girls froze and looked at each other. Why was such a strong smell floating around in a hospital? "Sh-Should I contact Gojo Satoru?" She asked. "No, we should leave this building. I'm starting to sense a terrifying amount of cursed energy."

"Are we in danger?" Miyo asked innocently. She looked around and the entire floor was eerily quiet. Hospitals are usually silent, right? Then why did it feel so odd to sense a painful amount of quietness in a hospital? Miyo went in her room and peeked outside the window. There were no people outside on the garden or the entrance either. "Miss, why don't you go and check the reception?" Miyo suggested.

A drop of sweat slid down Nitta's forehead. The amount of cursed energy nearing them was scaring her. If they were to encounter a higher grade curse, she didn't know if she'd be able to defend Miyo or even herself. "What a situation you've put me in, Gojo Satoru." She mumbled.

Nitta looked at Miyo and forced a smile. "Just go inside and rest. I'll call Gojo Satoru and inform him of the situation. I cannot leave you alone in this building." Nitta replied. Just when Miyo was about to head back inside, an old man's voice came from the end of the corridor.

"The Jujutsu sorcerers are such a pitiful lot." Jogo commented as he looked at Nitta. "They left a Grade 4 sorcerer like you to protect a legendary relic? Don't make me laugh."

"A Special Grade curse." Miyo and Nitta said at the same time. While Nitta's mind was filled with panic and she hurried to make a decision, Miyo's entire body felt like lead. She could not move.

Some strange gibberish sounded from the opposite direction of the corridor. Hanami stood there with her branch like hand, one white flower at the end of it pointed at Miyo.

Nitta had made at least 20 missed calls to Gojo Satoru who just wasn't picking up his phone. Miyo, on the other hand, was staring at Jogo in horror.

They're going to kill me. They're going to kill me. They're going to kill me.

Mama. Where are you?

A single strike from Hanami's cursed technique tossed Nitta against the wall. She fell unconscious with blood flowing from her head.

"Miss!" Miyo shouted as she didn't even have the chance to ask Nitta her name yet. Just a few hours ago this floor was filled with nurses and doctors. Where was Shoko who had treated her? Where was Gojo Satoru who just offered pizza to her? Where was his terrifying Infinity now?

Jogo didn't bother talking to Miyo. Unlike Hanami, his cursed energy instantly combusted a human and turned them to ashes. Miyo covered her head with both her hands and knelt to the ground in fear as a strike from Jogo's cursed energy struck her.

"Wha-" Jogo was at a loss of words. Miyo was completely unharmed. Another strike and it looked like his cursed energy didn't even touch her. "How is that possible? Are you a sorcerer too?" He asked in suspicion.

Miyo didn't dare open her eyes. She knew she'd probably suffer a fate worse than Nitta. Nobody would come to save her. The curses would tear her skin, break the bones of her ribcage and take out the cursed object. Miyo wasn't wrong, that was what Jogo, Mahito and Hanami intended when they meant they wanted to get the Catastrophic Relic.

Jogo didn't waste another second. "Domain expansion. Coffin of the Iron Mountain." He said the incantation and immediately Miyo was sucked into the terrifying domain of volcanoes leaking with rivers of red hot lava.

Now, if you know the rules of how a domain works in sorcery, you would know that any attack of the domain user definitely strikes. There is no way it wouldn't kill her. So, when Jogo's next attack didn't do any damage to Miyo, realisation finally hit him.

"The Catastrophic Relic is absorbing my cursed energy. Every strike is getting stored inside the Relic." He realised.

"In that case, I shall attack the human." Hanami said in a speech that Miyo didn't understand. Her cursed technique was of a different nature than Jogo and in a battle of strength, the cursed object wouldn't be able to save Miyo. When the domain broke, Hanami's disaster plants technique slammed Miyo against the wall at the end of the corridor. Miyo's eyes opened briefly and the last thing she saw was the two Special Grade curses heading in her direction.

There was a pool of blood where Miyo had crashed. A few of her bones were broken and her shoulder wasn't even in the same position as normal. She would die, just like what she had predicted.

"Tear the human open. We need to get the Catastrophic Relic as soon as possible. If she was able to absorb my cursed energy, I can't imagine how powerful she would be as a sorcerer." Jogo said worriedly.

Before Hanami's sharp wooden branches could come in contact with Miyo's skin, her body moved on its own. She got up and stood on her two feet. Despite her body being disfigured, her shoulder twisted in a strange way, like a gruesome evil spirit, she stood up. Her eyes had rolled back and become completely white.

Miyo's cursed energy charged out of her hands like a bolt of lightning. The sound of her bones cracking echoed in the corridor as she moved her hands to strike Jogo and Hanami. She missed by a few inches because it looked like Miyo was temporarily blind. The cursed energy that shot out, broke through the wall behind them, revealing a clear view of the hospital's garden. The ceiling and walls of the corridor were stained black due to the fire from Miyo's cursed energy. There was smoke still floating the air.

"What a monster." Jogo commented in disgust. The two Special Grade curses decided they were not equipped to deal with a force so powerful. They needed to plan better and use as many helping hands as they could.

After they retreated, Miyo's eyes returned to normal and the pain of her broken bones shot out through her body. She couldn't even scream or ask for help. There was just no one around. Miyo's eyes closed and she collapsed, but before she could hit the ground, somebody cushioned her fall with their arms.

"Old people are so stubborn, its so bothersome to even discuss this with you." Gojo Satoru commented as principal Gakuganji finished his thirty minute explanation about why the girl with the cursed object should be executed.

"You're extremely disrespectful! Are you planning to raise monsters in Tokyo Jujutsu High? Is that it?" Principal Gakuganji's rage was uncontrollable. In reality, he was only mad about the shifting power dynamics. If Gojo Satoru's Infinity wasn't enough, the younger generation of sorcerers proved to be increasingly powerful. "First there was Yuta Okkotsu and then Itadori Yuji. Now some stray girl with a disastrous relic?"

"They're just students. If you're seeing a monster in an 18 year old boy who hasn't done anything wrong, there's something wrong with you." Gojo Satoru's usually cheerful tone had dropped. He lost five brain cells every time he had a conversation with the higher authorities.

When Gojo Satoru exited the meeting room, he reached for his phone in his pocket. 33 missed calls from Akari Nitta. He closed his eyes tightly. He really had to fix his habit of putting his phone on silent.

When he called back, Nitta didn't pick up. He found it to be a bit strange. Suddenly, he received a call from Shoko.

"Satoru, two Special Grade curses are attacking the Central Hospital. You need to get here as soon as possible." He didn't speak, just listened and immediately teleported to Miyo's room. It was intact, but the smell of burning flesh and concrete along with the dust in the air told him otherwise.

When he looked outside the hospital room, he found Jogo and Hanami taking a defensive stance against someone. He raised an eyebrow in amusement when he saw their opponent. Miyo stood there, blood oozing out of her forehead and covering her face and clothes, her shoulder distorted in a seemingly painful manner and her eyes turned completely white.

"Whaa she looks possessed." Gojo Satoru told himself.

When Miyo's strike broke the wall at the end of the corridor, Gojo Satoru couldn't help but grin. He just couldn't suppress his smile when he imagined her alongside his competent students like Maki and Yuji. The cursed object lended her immense power, she was just never taught how to use it.

Jogo and Hanami retreated and he watched as Miyo's eyes returned to normal. Her body relaxed and her expression turned to one that showed intense pain. Before she collapsed om the ground, Gojo Satoru rushed to support her with his arms. He didn't want her body to be strained any more, so Gojo Satoru gently brought her to sit on the cold flooring with him. With one arm wrapped around Miyo, holding her against him, he used his other hand to reach for his phone.

"Shoko? Send someone to come and get Nitta. She's heavily injured." He said as he spotted Nitta on the ground some distance away.

"How about Miyo? Is she okay?" Shoko asked.

"About that uhh," Gojo Satoru started with a worried smile. "She won't make it out alive without your Reverse Cursed technique."

I know y'all have been waiting for more romance. I promise to give it to you in the next chapter.
